  1. WMV and AVI, darn I hate those are almost always corupted, or maybe its just Kazaa and the 'type' of movies Im downloading!!!
  2. When you're ready Im serious too, its a market here that is open now, the remote monitoring anyway. One or 2 people are doing it, but not properly and definately not advertising it. As for bandwidth, while you are online, we have DSL and Cable here. Average DSL is not ADSL, upload speeds are 128K, where Cable is 384K average upload., and download. These are the normal home and business account speeds. DSL is $490 a month for the first ADSL package and that claims only 384K upload. So question, as it is recording remotely, can DSL still work with Ip at those speeds (128K upload), and the compression used? Also, with Cable's Network Traffic at busy times, will that still be okay when transmitting 100's of video feeds all at once, and recording? Or, is it only sent a video feed when there is motion, or an alarm? And would it be a higher monthly charge using seperate servers and IPs to record remotely for certain clients? Just wondering how.if it would work here. I know of at least several large businesses here that would take this service, in addition to their monthly alarm monitoring service; thats large businesses with 5-50 local and outisland stores, even though many of them already have local DVRs and cameras. Thanks Rory
  3. Yep .. If you think thats bad, you need to check out Ademco (Honeywell). Anyway, actually, with the custom developer control, (which I have), If I had some SDKs from other brands, I could write a multi site, Multi DVR remote network software, but I only have the GE one right now. I guess if GE were to do that, they would charge a fortune for it, dont see them doing that any time in the future though they do give you all the tools to do it yourself. I did hear though the grape vine that whey will be supporting IP cameras in the future. Rory
  4. GE Kalatel Can do this, up to 16 DVR Remote Sites, and up to 64 cameras in one multi site camera view. Its free software with every Kalatel DVR.Im actually gettng ready to install several 4 channel StoreSafe DVRs for this application, as they have all existing analog cameras, adding a couple more ExtremeCCTV IR cameras, and want local recording, not over the network, it will be a local wireless network installed by someone else. They just want the security to be able to view the cameras, but they are not technical enought to get too involved in using the computer besides clicking on a camera and clicking back to multi screen, in other words, live view. Meanwhile the admin (Chief of Secu) or his technical employee, has total Remote Control of all of the DVRs for playback, DVR Menu Programming/Setup, burn to CD/DVD, Flash, etc. Rory
  5. I havent found a client yet that is technical enough to use a NVR, at least not in this country, I mean they can barely use a computer, besides MSN and Yahoo! So that is why the simple DVRs (easiest to use) will always be the biggest sellers. Not to mention the price issue. When I do find one, Ill let you know However I do see where it comes into video monitoring stations, but one thing it must also do, is be able to intergrate video servers for analog cameras for existing installs. By the way this is something the right person will be able to push and sell in this country, as that is open market right now ... so let me know, I work along with a large local Alarm Monitoring company, just dont have the $$ or knowledge in that area to get it going yet. CAMERA PROBLEM

If splicing is not a major issue, try switching it with another camera and see what happens, if the same location still does it, switch power supplies, see if it still does it or if the other location is doing it now. First though, redo your connections making sure the BNC connectors (stranded part) are grounded properly, and also, switch the connections on the DVR to be sure its not a bad input, or plug it direct into a TV or Monitor. Cable could be run over or near some high voltage, could be something in the image that can be causing the issue so would mean readjusting the direction of the camera, could be a bad camera or power supply issue. Bullet Camera Advice Please

After going through several manufacturs specs and prices, and testing them, and some feedback on others from other techs, here is my latest catalog, carefully picked selection of cameras, from maybe 4 main camera manufacturers, Eclipse CCTV (Cheap), Provideo (Mid Range), Kalatel (Expensive), Extreme CCTV (Very Expensive). A camera for any budget or any application, but not too many. It is a PDF file so right click save as to download and view (Ignore Pricing as it is local Bahamian Prices!) - Its just to give you an idea. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/surevideo.pdf

    Bullet Camera Advice Please

Dont think you really need the auto iris, at least not in a bullet lens, but its up to you. Electronic Iris' built into cameras now adays are just as good, depending on the lens. Also, all the Provideo Bullets with EX on the end, are the Heat Exview Cameras, which means they are low lux color. Okay, if it were me, If I need to zoom the camera into a specific area when I install it, like to a front gate entrance, having say an 8mm focal view, then Id get the Varifocal Camera. If it is pointing at an area that will get alot of changing light like car lights, passing on the driveway or road, or direct sunlight, then auto iris. If neither of those, or you just want to save a couple dollars, the non auto iris fixed lens is all you need, for a home (670EX). I have BW fixed lens non auto iris, direct in the position of the sun and they still are okay, only at sun down they freak out for a little bit. but then so do all cameras unless you are buying wide dynamics and they cost plenty $$. Basically, if I get the Varifocal Lens, I just get the Auto Iris one time. If I Dont need Varifical, then I get the fixed lens, I think its the 670EX. Whether you need the IR or not, that 7706DNV is their best bullet camera. WHY? IT has an Ir Cut Filter, and it switches to B/W at night, meaning you get a great color image in the day, where as the other DN cameras they have, do not have IR Filters so the day time image can be off color or glary. (do a search on this forum for some threads on IR Cut Filters and you will find out more on that). With the 7706DNV you can just unplug the IR LED from the power inside the bullet camera itself if you dont need the IR, and plug it back in if you do want it ever again. This way you get B/W at night, which will always give you a better image at night than any low light color camera. If you have tons, i mean tons of lighting, then color can perform great at night, but 1 street light is not that. These EXview will work though, but like i said, BW will be the best at night. Rory
  10. What it is basically is: A Power Supply like an Altronix 4amp Power Supply for example: A Terminal Strip Power Cord Battery - if you use it Ground - if you use it The Power Supply connects to the cord which plugs into the wall The Power Supply also, using the 24VAC or 12VDC Power Output depending on which power supply you have, goes to the Terminal Strip. The Battery can be connected to the Power Supplies Battery Input So essentially it is just 1 power supply with 1 power cord, powering each camera by splitting up the total Amps to all the cameras. You can actually build them yourself pretty easy, but just as cheap to just order it ready made. Rory

    Bullet Camera Advice Please

yes, auto iris lens on the 870ex. If you are going to get the auto iris, then you may as well get a day night bullet, the 7706DNV: http://www.spytown.com/spcvcodaweca.html Just $40 more. The EX version like you mentioned, though they say day night on SpyTown for example, are just Exview Low Light Cameras, not Day Night. The ones with the DN extenstion on the name are Day Night (switches to BW in low light). Rory
  13. Hi Event is motion detection, so turn off Time Lapse and make it only event. You have the option to use Time Lapse also, and Even together, which would mean that you can record at a slower rate in Time Lapse all the time, then have it go into a faster recording when it picks up motion, this can be set differently among each camera. 17. ok Robo im logging off now, i have to get this PC loaded up and updated (XP SP2) by the AM, will be back on tomorrow evening (or morning depends). Rory
  18. But you wouldnt know what the IP address is, if it changes, to get into the router in the first place. No-Ip running on your PC on the network, any PC, checks the IP when it changes and sends the info out to your no-ip account. Rory
  19. I guess you just enter myname.noip.com:8080 ? But for sure the PC must have noip.com's software installed on it and turned on. I have to log off, I have a PC to reload windows XP on ...keep us informed Rory
  20. you have to install the No-ip software on your PC, it runs as a service which checks your IP. Thats the only way it will know whether your IP address has changed or not. To actually get in the Router Settings remotely, the Router uses Port 8080 and has to be set up to allow incoming WAN requests, should be in Security Settings in the Router Admin. So say your IP is: 24.244.177.87, then to directly get to your router you enter http://24.244.177.87:8080 to access the router admin, If you are going to do this, make sure you change your Router's password from the default 'admin'. as for using No-ip.com to directly access t he router, etc, I never got that far with it, since it needed a PC on for it to work, I didnt use it anymore, but many people on this forum use it so they can probably answer that. (I dont use any Instant Messanger also!). I know it will email me whenever my IP on the PC it is running on, changes though, If I were using it, I did for a couple days just to test it. Personally my IP hardly ever changes and my clients use Static IPs from the ISP. Rory
  21. Yep If you have someome that can test it right now ask them to, from another location, just to be 100%. WaveVue only takes a minute to download and install as its so small. They can also use HyperTerminal to see if it connects using TCPIP if they dont want to download the WaveVue or WaveReader, just enter the IP and Port (1024) and if it connects then it is working remotely. Just make sure they disconnect and dont try to upload any Bin files! Rory
  22. NoIp will need to be running on your PC all the time, and as your IP changes, it will email your email address. This means when you are at work, or in Cancun (or the bahamas!), if your IP address has changed, just check your email. You enter that IP in the WaveReader or whatever, when at a remote PC such as at work or on vacation, but you have to leave a PC always on, on the network, all the time, or at least when you are at work, or on vacation. You CAN also use that IP in WaveReader, etc, locally and it will work also. Rory
  23. Yes you will only be able to use a Windows PC, not tablet PC unless it is running Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP. Not sure on the browser thing right now (with the router) until I test this new DVMRe I have to install this week, since you say the port can be changed now for the HDD Web Server. Either way you can use my iVue web software from any IE Browser, no WaveReader is required. I have to edit it for XP this week sometime, but after that it will be okay to go, then you can just copy it to a Geocities free site and it will always be there. Rory
  24. Yes, you get your ISP IP address, if it is not a static IP, then you need to set up something like www.noip.com or just check it when it switches, you can view it in the router settings for Status. Other than ActiveX, WaveReader, only way would be Java, but not many stand alone DVRs support Java, at least not kalatel. You can set the IP address as an allowed site for installing software, then it blocks all others. Only IE supports Active X though, so it will be safer to just install WaveReader one time so there is no compremising of the browser security at all, then you can just get rid of IE all together and install Fire Fox
  25. You should not have to touch that. I think what you are talking about is the HTTP web server port, that should be left to port 80, I dont remember that being changeable, maybe in the more recent DVRs it is now. What normally happens when you type in a web address or Ip without specifying a port at the end of it, it defaults to port 80, so ignore my confusion on the previous post as to server or browser defaults, its been a long couple days! So essentially if you change that to say 1024, then in the browser you would enter http://24.244.157.60:1024 - where that is your IP, this way the browser should work now when using a Router. Perhaps this is a recent upgrade as before the web server would not work to port 80 with a router, at least I could not get it to work using port forward to port 80. Its worth a try either way, AFTER you get the WaveReader part working properly. Either way, regardless of the web server port and Browser stuff, that should not effect how WaveReader connects to it: Just enter the Internal Router IP into the DVR, in the router port forward to port 1024 to that IP. Then WaveReader should stay online locally, and you should be able to connect remotely to your ISP's Ip address also with Wavereader (or my software). Rory
