You can get the mounting options from other manufacturers. What size is the dome enclosure? Meaning the cut out part of it used for flush mounting. ROry

0.05 lux is normal for a B/W camera.
-
Only have used the Kalatel RSM-1600 phone line transmitters for low speed and low cost transmission. Dont know if that is what you are looking for, its Point to Point.
-
It is a cheaper brand than GE but costs more, so I would go with the GE cam plus over the Sanyo. The sanyo does perform as I have used their Day Night, but have found the GE Cam Plus cameras to be much better.
-
I tested the 4 channel briefly, it costs more than the Kalatel StoreSafe, and has less features, including the fact that it doesnt do multi site.
-
So buy a new camera and just use the lens. If the lens has not got the proper wiring, chuck it and buy a new one, they cant be that expensive?
-
maybe easier and not that expensive just to buy a new camera/lens, it will be a better camera also, new technology.
-
WHAT do you mean when you say low cost? GE's KTC-540E Cam Plus Camera, has sr in the 730-1100 nm range. $183

Yep, at only $15 a month extra with no account upgrades, that would be the way to go. someone said some routers have NO IP software installed on them though, anyone else know about this?
-
Yep, Re: Cable here, for a home user here, we have to get the fast account to get a static IP but then also have to pay an extra $20 a month for the IP, which is $70 a month, plus $20 a month, 1700+ download speed, 384 upload. the normal account which is $34 a month, is 384 download, 128 upload, for home users. Business uers have to pay $150 a month either way, for TV and Cable, and get a Static IP automatically whether they use it or not, its 384 upload, not sure of the download, maybe the same. The next speed up is $250 a month, $350 a month and so on .. DSL costs even more and is slower ..$490 a month for the first ADSL account.

So basically it is a Dynamic IP address which doesnt change often? Mine hasnt changed in a bout 4 months even If I try to change it, but I also cant change PCs has to be the same PC, but others I know, theirs change every week or so. Could be the modem though, as they have so many different Cable Modems out there now, they seem to sell different ones to clients every few months. We cant use our own, we have to buy the modem from the ISP, its just their policy, its called a monopoly as they are the only Cable company here. DSL is not an option for remote video here, ADSL costs around $490 a month for 384 upload speed, more if you want faster .. yep, its called 3rd world. Both our broadband ISPs (Cable and then the Telephone Company) are monopolies here, there are no laws for them. Rory

Yeah, but that Public IP address still changes unless you obtain a Static IP from the ISP... or am I missing something in this thread ..? I can access my non static IP on my computer, from anywhere, until the ISP changes it, which happens every so often. From what I could gather from Noip.com, you need to install their software for it to monitor the PC. You cannot do this with a stand alone DVR. So how else will it work? Forget the Cable mOdem etc, lets talk routers.

Hi, Dont know will have to check, they are GE Cam Plus. They are just mounted to wood, no metal anywhere. Thanks Rory

Im doing a job, its 2 stores buildings are side by side, about 100' from the DVR to the other store's cameras. Im running multi twisted pair. This will do the alarm, Telco, Router, and CCTV. Im going to use Baluns as the guy does not want to spend that much, and 100' or less should be ok. He has already bought the cameras and they are all High Res Professional GE cameras, and 1 Wide Dynamic (hope this one works this time! ) Im installing a 4 port Altronix Power supply in the 2nd store. Question is, how much likely is it that I may get ground loop as the cameras and monitor are powered in 2 seperate buildings? I realise I can use an active UTP hub like from NVT etc, that will get rid of this issue if it were to occur, but they are more $$$ than the baluns and as it is only 4 cameras ... Worst case scenerio I will have him buy the active Hub, but if I can save and get the same image then Ill rather the Baluns for this app. Anyway ..anyone have an idea let me know plz thanks Rory

got the pm thanks, just havent had a chance to dig into it yet.. they are 24VAC cameras or at least the power supply is, and are mounted to wood only. Rory

My cable ISP does not allow me to change it. If I have a static IP then It is set like that, then I can change it in the router. The ISP assigns you that IP address automatically. Does he mean a static IP?? If so you can change the IP in your router or PC to the static IP and other info the ISP gives you. I guess when he sais Public Ip does he mean a Dynamic IP or a Static IP?? Fred, you and I already know how to get the Embedded DVRs to work, lets not confuse ourselves ) They could be talking PC DVR lingo also.. I know I dont feel like learning anything new at this point .. im working on a 2000+ line code VB script right now .... Rory

Havent done this yet, do you know if there are any back lighting issues with an entrance door to a store inside a mall, it is a door that is inside the mall, not to the outside. I would think not, but just checking ..? PS. we only gots 2 malls over here with limited amount of stores.. Thanks Rory

i have a client that wants to get licence plates from 2 lanes entering the property, it is just a warehouse. They cant spend the ExtremeCCTV prices which is around $4000 for the dual camera. Anyway, was thinking of a Wide Dynamic Pano Day Night camera, anyone tried this yet? IM wondering if I add Infrared, would it pick up the licence plate or not?
-
PTZ = $$$ Plus, if you get 1000 cars a day, that PTZ motor probably wont last that long . No they dont need to see anything else besides the Licence Plate, as the car park cameras will cover the other part of the cars.

Its not a Sony, and it is not high resolution. It has very basic features. Also, it doesnt say what Sony chip it is using, if it is a Super Had it will not be 0.01 lux, and either way that could be the face plate lux rating, not what you will actually get, which may actually be more like 0.1 lux. It appears to be a no name, with only a 1 year warranty. Dont expect it to last that long as no name products are generally poorly built with cheap parts, hence the cheap price. If you have $80 to throw away, or if it is just for yourself, give it a try. Otherwise, if it is for a professional installation, I would recommend a brand like Ganz, GE, Phillips, etc. Rory

Looking for best DVR PC based card and software
rory replied to Tim's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
we should name names, that should be another forum, developer software. I still want to make that demo site, which lists demo or software for each/every DVR/Web Server out there, and people can add more/others that are not listed, public IPs can be displayed to all, private to members only. ETC,,,,when im done with the current site Im working on (still...), ill look at that, and another script I said I would work on to do with CCTV. Rory -
I have used the GE Kalatel DVR with POTS. Though it is slower than IP, it is still PTP dial in from a standard phone line, which is cool. I have a couple customers using the RSM-1600 for this reason, and another the WaveReader to a DVR. Ofcourse if you rememeber the video phone reports from the initial Iraq war ... it is slower than that. Rory

Always better though to get a static IP. If you dont mind speed issues, then use Thomas' advice on getting a router to do it for you.

adding to this, Cooperman is living in the country with more Infrared Illuminators that any other country in the world the UK. Also, If you want true Infrared follow AV's link. Extreme CCTV is widely used in the Uk, US and Canada, and with my help, in the Bahamas. Basically, there are 3 approx. versions of IR. 750nm - Street Light Glow 850nm - Slight Glow 950nm - Invisible Most BW cameras will work with 850nm. Price doesnt matter much, but the camera itself does. If you are looking for a day night camera alot of them now will list in their specs what they work with as far as IR, GE Kalatel does that, for example. Extreme CCTV mostly designs its cameras for this. Extreme has some great IR cameras, and if IR is what you want, outdoors, they will do it. Bullet IR cameras will not, generally. IR domes- they can give off alot of glare, it is recommened NOT to use them, use a seperate Day/Night Dome and an IR LED. Trust me, I learned the hard way ($$). Seperate LED/Bulb is always better either way. For example, Extreme has cameras with an LED array seperate of the camera ($$). If you need help with Extreme CCTV cameras, PM me.

Is this a ground loop problem?
rory replied to ccolvard's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
hi,. just stopped in from that job, just took down the dome to put it over in the next building, where i just mounted all the alarm parts. Anyway, the GE KTC-840E Traditional Exview Camara i put up in its place, took 2 minutes, perfect picture no lines. I think GE's vandal resist domes just suck!! Everyone I have used have been like this. They look cool though, at least they have that going for them. No problems with their indoor domes so far. Could still be a termination issue, I checked the power supply box and everything there is okay. All the cameras are 24VAC. Maybe I will try powering them off of their own Power Supplies and see what happens also. I have a spare 4 channel Altronix 24VAC power box.
