  1. Darn, i imagine thats dangerous, probably could get a fine for that in the US? Here its like that all the time, well dont know about the ground, but you should see some attics I have been in, live exposed wire everywhere ... There are no laws for that here ... or they are / will never be enforced.
  2. i watch your TV all the time, our local cable company is owned by Canadians and they play canadian TV on a few channels, and canadian commericals in between MSNBC news ...!
  3. Are you talking about Electrical Ground? (High Voltage)
  4. while we are on this subject, I have a similar issue, but its RG59. There are 7 cameras, 4 of them GE Kalatel Traditional Cameras with AI VF lenses, they are great. However, the domes, all 3 of them, or at least 2. didnt look too clear at the other one, have a ghosting effect. I know this is an easy one, but 1 hour sleep a night for a few days and just got in from a long day of meetings, any quick ideas? Im moving at least one of the Domes anyway and putting it outside, in another building about 100 feet away, will get into that in another thread to get some ideas.. thanks rory

    connecting dvr to pc

I know, for me, but for others id rather they get a static, as without the static it is only 124 upload speed, slow....
  6. first plug in a monitor where the camera is powered and then see what you have. If there is no problem there, then yes its probably a ground loop problem. Since you are using Cat5, I would suggest some good active UTP transceivers/transmitters such as NVT. (eg: http://www.nvt.com/products/NV_652R.html) The active ones have Built-in Transient protection & ground lifting. How many or what type you need will depend on the number of cameras: http://www.nvt.com/products.html Rory

Only good for PC DVRs though, not stand alone DVRs like the Panasonic Mentioned here.
  8. Anyone know of any cheap Video Intercom system that will also tie into a CCTV RF Modulator or quad? BW is all I need, but I also need to use an IR Bullet camera, and also need to tie it into a RF modulator, dual channel, or a quad then a 1 channel cheap Mod. Any ideas. I know Aiphone has the CCTV adaptor but they are a little higher than the client wants to spend for his home. Thanks ROry

    max lenght???

that should be fine, you do loose some video quality though. If you wanted you can always get a video amplifier also. Make sure you use at least RG59 cable, if using Cat5 should not be that much of an issue. Any un amplified video no matter whether it is RG59 or UTP/Cat5 cable, looses quality over 100 feet.

Here you have to pay for a static Ip address account, to get at least 384 upload. As for NO-IP.com those things dont work with a stand alone DVR normally?

    Need DVR recommendation

HiSharp 16 channel - $1000-1200 better quality video than the everfocus and better quality remote video.

Which Cameras to use in Convient Store

Ok thanks. We have alot of Brits come down here to live, and they think it is bad until they come here, and just cant believe it! Imagine all those prices, higher cost of food, cars costing 100% on the price of a car bough in the US, no government assistance for anything, average salllery being $175 a week, there really are no jobs except maids jobs, run down streets, garbage everywhere, no reliable/safe public transportation... and crime going out of control.. at least that is the case for Nassau the capital.

Just get 1 Static IP and a Linksys Router.

    connecting dvr to pc

If you want the DVR and other PCs to get online, then you have a couple choices: A router - only need 1 Static IP from the ISP or none at all if you can remember the iP and if it doesnt change much. Hub - If you get multiple Static IPs from the ISP ($$) Router: First depends on the router, using a NEW/Unconfigured linksys Router for an example: Make sure the the DVR and the local Computers are connected to the router. Restart the computers, router, and Cable Modem if this is the first time. Always turn off the computers and router first, then as they are off, turn off the Cable/DSL modem, then restart the Modem, then the others. Using default settings on a Linksys Router: Depending on the amount of PCs I will imagine you only have 1 other one. The router assigns by default up to 50, IP is 192.168.1. and then your number, I generally use .10 for the DVR as they normally have alot less than 9 other computers on the network. So pick an IP, lets say 192.168.1.10 (depends on the router and the amount of PCs). Go into the menu programming for the DVR. get into TCP/Network Settings. IP - enter your internal Ip number (eg. 192.168.1.10) Subnet Mask - (255.255.255.0 is default) gateway - make it 192.168.1.1 (this is the routers starting IP address) Exit the DVR menu programming. Goto your Computer: Open IE and type in: http://192.168.1.1 user and pass = admin Goto advanced tab at the top right, and forwarding. In the Ext. Port, enter the IP that the DVR uses, for example, Kalatel DVRs use Port 1024, HiSharp uses Port 80. The Pano manual should have that info. Enter it on both sides, eg. "1024 TO 1024" Tick the Protocal TCP box, leave the UDP Box un Ticked Where it says IP Address, enter the Internal IP you entered into the DVR, eg. 192.168.1.10, then tick the ENABLE box. Click Apply. Restart the Cable/DSL Modem, DVR, and the Router. Using the software that comes with the DVR, enter the assigned IP you entered into the DVR (eg. 192.168.1.10) and you are good to go. You can also enter your ISP's assigned IP address locally and it will also work. Static IP from your ISP is better as it never changes, but you can also just check your ISP Ip address every so often or as it changes, and change it accordingly in your REMOTE PCs that connect over the internet. If you have a laptop for example, that you use at home to connect to the DVR, but also carry it to work, just use your ISP IP Address, not the Internal IP. When you goto IE and type in http://192.168.1.1, and the user/pass, it will show you your ISP IP address right there under "Specify WAN IP Address", or click on "Status". You will need to do this if you are not using a static IP. If you are using a Static IP from your ISP, then on the first page, is where you enter the info the ISP gives you, eg. IP, Subnett Mask, Gateway, and DNS names. you will not need to change any info in the DVR, that is internal and is different from your ISP's info. Rory
  15. I have used Kalatel Housings on the ocean side, and through a couple Hurricanes, and they last. I also have them in warehouses, beach side, etc. They withstand dust perfectly, never used their heater versions though, for obvious reasons. But this is on the US side of the world, if in the UK, which I think you are, then just go with Pelco.

Which Cameras to use in Convient Store

hey Cooper, My brother got a job as a song writer/guitarist etc, in Machester for a singer called Rhian (female singer). http://www.rhiansherlynne.com/ Anyway, if things dont pan out in the next few weeks, with advertising, etc, ill be on my way over there as soon as he gets an appartment (somewhere to stay ). If you have any suggestions on CCTV places to check out please let me know, other wise ill be stuck with an IT job like ASP coding. ..which I do like, but CCTV is more fun Things here are dead, the Bahamas is just not ready for it, I have held out for the past couple years, I think I have stuck it out long enough at tis point to say I am not giving up. Economy here is terrible, and you only get a job on whether the person knows you or not, nothing to do with what you know. A Xerox copying company here just got the $400K job to add cameras at the airport, had to have known someone, I mean, a Xerox company installing Security cameras! They are not even a player in the security industry over here. (small country, we would know, noone knows them). There is coruption here like you wouldnt believe, I can tell some stories just regarding CCTV and our main Harbour (where cruise ships dock), the "alarm" company that got the job, got it because they knew someone in the gov, and paid them a huge commision for them to get it, they called me to helo them finish it off, I told them NO! They charged I think it was $150K for 10PTZ cameras installed!!! They were cheap Merlit Lim cameras also....their problem was 2000+ feet signal using passive Baluns, which we all know wont push PTZ that far.. Anyway .. im really fed up here right now, Im finishing my parents new web site and will see what conspires over the next few weeks. Ofcourse we also pay 50% Customs Import Duty on top of the price of every electronic product imported, (Cameras are 15% duty, other electronics are 35%, then add something called Stamp tax which is always 7%) so that doesnt help, unless you sell something like Eclipse or Everfocus, but then I wouldnt stay in the industry for that! Rory
  17. Im making a script that will 'help' make a decision for a CCTV system, based on user input, such as types of cameras, from issues like lighting, outdoors, vandal resistant, hidden, etc, number of cameras, and ofcourse the ever so controversial, DVR type. Anyway, will break it down into 2 sections, Cameras, and System (DVR etc). To start with im looking for typical questions asked when quoting cameras for different applications. All ideas, comments are welcome. Once the script is complete, it will be available to anyone interested, no charge, to use on their web site, in classic ASP, which almost every Paid 2000, XP, and 2003 hosting company supports. It will also be available in a PDF format, and maybe other downloadable media types. Thanks Rory
  18. not enough bud here yet ..! But yes, the same question can be asked about the cost difference on say a Kalatel 10 channel, to their 16 channel, its like $1000 difference! I think it may have something to do with the market, keeping their prices in line with their competitors, more than it is actually being that more expensive to make or program. Hopefully they will alll drop their price difference from 8/10 channels to 16 channels and it will all be normal pricing eventually. Heck they can drop all their prices while they are at it. Rory
  19. with that name, id think you could make a fortune just off advertising
  20. no prob, I know how those big brands can be anyway, they are a pain. Great domain name though, how'd you manage that?!
  21. Actually, it can also go: Manufacturer, Representative, Distributor, Dealer/Installer.
  22. lets see,:: GE Phillips ExtremeCCTV Altronix Provideo Fujinon Tamron to name a few, these are just some of the most popular with most CCTV distributors.

    High Res Quad Color Processors?

Are you recording it? If not why does it have to be the ultimate res? There are systems for this, using rear projection but they are not cheap. another option is 3x 4 channel high quality muxes, as they will give you the best image.

    Speco cameras

Stay away from their cheap ones, any of the $130+ ones are great, my line starts with their CVC-325 $137 BW Bullet Camera with IR. I have used the cheaper BW ones but the image is not as good. Other than that they last long. Ive only had maybe 2 go bad in over 3 years probably from power surge issues anyway. They are my low end camera line though, GE and ExtremeCCTV being the normal/high end. Rory

    Long Distance cameras

Whats 500 metres in feet/miles? Its not the camera though, its how you transmit the signal.
