it is unusable, the clarity is terrible. I asked them about this but they would not clarify.

there is really no remote software with this DVR, trust me.
-
Yes, dont get it. It only has browser based remote video that is terrible quality. We had the 16 channel version. IF you dont need the remote/network feature it is a good DVR, with CDR is simple to burn evidence. If they only made some 'real' network software for it, then it would be a great DVR. Local video quality is comparative to Kalatel's DVR quality, better than everfocus for example. Wavelet is good quality, Kalatel uses it, among others. Not sure how it compares to MPEG. Anyway, i choose to stick to the Everfocus 16 channel for now for low end until these other guys get their software act together. Ofcourse Everfocus' software isnt geat either, but the browser based quality is good. Neither of them compare to using a DVR like the Kalatel ones, but the price is good.

they dont have the availability yet, but if you send me a pocket PC I will write the software There is a developers control, plus MS has VB for pocket PC. Crestron and I think AMX have wireless handhelds that support DVMRe DVRs. Rory

Yep I tried a manual iris lens also, same thing. I got a reply from GE that there is something wrong with the either the imager or the iris on this camera and to replace it so im sending it back! My first wide dynamic, just my luck these days ;-( Thanks for the help though guys. Rory

Looks like it has an auto shutter. Everything is OSD. If I lower the AI threshhold it gets better but dim compared to other cameras Ive used. Even so though, the picture still has the pixels sought of like some type of enhancement being made digitally. Question, are wide dynamic cameras supposed to be same type of picture as a normal one, appart from lighting? I would have thought so..? Basically this image looks like crap .. the lighting part works like they say though.

darn, just saw the latest reports, we are dead on the track of Hurricane Francis, should be interesting to see if the cameras in the field stand up to it! http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT06/refresh/AL0604W5+GIF/312103W5.gif

yeah im getting real tired of all the politics on CNN & MSNBC right now! But it beats the BBC Though, BBC has better foriegn coverage of News around the world. We have BBC International on our Cable TV also.

id have to check, but phillips only started couple years ago while Ultrack & Kalatel have been in it for at least over 10 years or more. Phillips was also using Kalatel's technology when they first started up, using Wavereader for their DVRs.
-
yep, the price of the scanner can buy you one or 2 extra cameras in some cases .. they have a lot of banks down here that use 1 camera for the entire bank, on a scanner!
-
they are new compared to kalatel, ultrack, etc..

i'll see what i can do

Jason can you email me your catalog please, or emai me a link to it, thanks Also, im looking for investors or to sell someone's products in the Bahamas, if you are interested let me know. It is a big market here.I dont have funds to buy but as a Bahamian can set up the company here for the investor, install, service and install. Eclipse is a big seller here so that is the only real competition, but most selling that here dont know anything about CCTV. Rory

yep, nothing new, even a new breed in CCTV like Phillips has it in their PTZ's, i wish the old timers like Kalatel etc would get on the bandwagon, though i hear it is coming out in Kalatel soon. If Provideo could get it now it will be great I may have to try a GEO just for the heck of it, to use this feature. None of our Florida Disributors sell GEO though, feel free to post a link to a Florida company that does sell GEO if anyone has a link , thanks Or Thomas if your cards do this let me know. Rory

well entry exit definately cut out the dome and use a Wide Dynamic Traditional Camera. Otherwise Sanyo has some good back lighint settings for a Color Dome and it is low priced. Kalatel has some good high quality domes, expensive though. Ganz from what I have heard also good high quallity. Sanyo Domes are good also, lower priced than the Kalatel & Ganz but still high quality. Provideo has some low priced domes, good quality, long lasting. As far as the DVR, brand of dome does not matter much. I personaly use Kalatel DVRs myself, and sell either Kalatel Domes for higher end, or Provideo for lower end. When I say lower end they are still good, just cheaper priced. Quality of color is better on the Kalatel Though, BUT, is not good for an entry door. They have no back lighting settings at all. Sanyo on the other hand has back lighting settings on their Domes, Ganz also I think, Sanyo being the least expensive, and Provideo being even less expensive. Honestly I wont do anymore entry/exit using Domes at this time, until I get my hands on a good Wide Dynamic Dome, for now I use the UltraView Kalatel Wide Dynamic Camera, or any other high range wide dynamic camera. For a home, id just use Siamese Cable (RG59 with Power Cable). AS its a home, bullet cameras are the way to go, unless you have large budget for Professional Cameras (Box/Traditional/etc). B/W Bullet Cameras in the areas at night with little light, or BW with IR LEDs with no light at night. Color or Exview Color Bullet Cameras in areas with good lighting at night. If you need vandal resistant then you could use a Fixed Dome camera, they also come in B/W and Exview Color or just Color, little more expensive though. Tie it into a DVR and use your TV Video Input. DVRs come in PC based (which differ considerably depending on which PCI DVR card you buy, and computer used for the PC Cards) or you can get a low end Stand Alone (all-in-one) DVR (which also differ alot) such as an Everfocus, HiSharp, Appro, or Similar, or fork out alot for something 'like' a Kalatel DVR and get more features. which one? Id rather add more fixed cameras, but then if you can afford it, its cool to use a pan tilt like from Pelco for each fixed camera. I dont like their controllers though, but still they have some nice features instead of just a plain fixed camera. Zoom with Pan Tilt (PTZ) is even nicer though.

yep, actually it was empty anyway as i had a leak previously in the pipe from there to my stove, hadnt had a chance to get it fixed yet, yep, lots of fast food ! anyway, im back in 'da crib' but on my laptop right now. (600Mhz Compaq, 128MB SDRAM, Windows Me), as my main computer has been in the back of my jeep past few days the mother board, etc is all loose inside it. They make this laptop tougher I guess than I build a PC Mind you this little laptop is flying as i never really use it. It has nothing on it but Internet Exporer. (going blind though) Still have some cleaning to do here, from rain that got inside. My neighbors generator was going past 6 days so my appt was like the inside of a diesel engine, his exhaust is only feet from my windows. Bleached some of the furniture to get the smell off, wiped walls, all that fun stuff. Got my water on finally this afternoon late, as the pump is a deep water well and needed priming, darn im going blind on this laptop!!!! Our rain water tank is dirty full of sulfur, probably dead rats or cats (?). ANYWAY - to the topic of this forum, hooked up a WhizKid Color Dome I got from a client, tonight. Not bad, i disabled the IR LEDs as they caused alot of glare (never could get that part of a IR Dome to work good). Color is good and you can drive over the Dome and it wont brake. We even used a sledgehammer on one of them and it didnt break, scratched though. Anyway it was free ....it is 470TVL and its cheap so its not bad for what it is. Opened up the weatherproof (not so I guess) box to my BW Bullet, full of termites I guess hiding out from the storm, shock in the dark on a 12 foot ladder! Gonna add a couple more BW Bullets and Color bullets over the next couple weeks, and ofcourse a DVR, probably Everfocus 16 channel for now. When I get it all online ill post a link to it. Was still on course to leave the Bahamas, but will again stay for now, a couple large Jobs coming up, hopefully. then I can afford to advertise properly etc. Im looking for investors by the way. ok thats all now for the hurricance post, as its now long gone Look out for Hurricane Ivan at 160mph with 200mph gusts, looks like its heading for Key West!
