Who is DVR Wholesaler.com
rory replied to Robert Oaks's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
they are selling the same DVRs as Eclipse CCTV, and they are originally made in Korea. Very cheap quality. -
Okay, if you want, give me until next week and Ill test the Appro, if its any good, as my distributor sais it is good, Ill let you know. If you want to buy it Ill send you a link where you can buy it in Florida at dealer cost. You could buy the cameras from the same place also, at low prices, but good quality products. Im use to higher end standalones, so the lower end has to still be good enough for a home user, as thats where I am going to sell it. If its no good, I wont sell it, thats how I work. Rory

the Appro 4 ch DVR is **** in Miami. Question is, are you looking for the best or the cheapest? Best Ive used is the Kalatel DVMRe-CT, cost much more than any of those you mentioned though, but local quality of video is superior, and remote video is simple to use and good quality also. It totally integrates into Crestron and many other devices. The camera makes a huge difference, but for local viewing, the DVR also makes a difference, the quality of the video on the local monitor. Personally I prefer movie type quality on a local monitor, and even more, to have good simple remote video. If you are using a cheap low res camera, not even worth buying a CCTV monitor, just sell them a TV. The actual DVR must be simple to use and not required to have any type of physical intervention by any of the employees, other than management who can completely control it via network software. The Kalatel's do this, and most others do also.

you would also get better quality and no risk of interference if using Cat5 with an 'amplified' receiver, but it will cost much more than using coax. Ofcourse you could also use amplifiers for coax also. I wouldnt bother with cat5 unless you are using active recievers, otherwise just use coax up to 750', or if you want to be sure there will no interference issues, then cat5/UTP would be prefered, passive is okay to 750' and cost less than active, but still more than just using coax. Depends what the client can afford. I just confused myself with that post, im going to shut up now!

As far as I could tell, you can ONLY access it through a limited browser interface, and the quality and manufacturer support is very bad, from demos and from what the people I know that have used it have told me. But yes its been around for a while. why choose the Argus though? Miami distributors are also pushing the Appro DVR, which Ill have one by next week to test out. Personally I prefer a windows based GUI software, more power and control than web browsers can ever provide using activeX controls. A browser based is only useful if you are traveling. Most windows software can install just as quick as an active X can be downloaded.

stay away from the everfocus, i have a colleague who has used them as they like to push them in florida alot, they are cheap and limited.

"In surveillance the main priority should be reliability. Embedded technology has the edge over PC-based DVRs when it comes to reliability. The core reason, is the embedded operating software is dedicated to managing video, where PC-based operating systems handle multiple processes simultaneously, potentially causing a higher level of failure. With PC-based systems an operator may be required to operate a system that is beyond his IT expertise. However, embedded technology allows for much easier operation and is more user-friendly, leaving more time for the operator to fulfil his job description with greater ease and functionality. Management on the other hand have the full flexibility of a graphical user interface."

What computer components to use
rory replied to Robert Oaks's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
ive got a simple question, not upto date with the new hardware that much, I imagine the 3200 400Mhz DDR is faster than the 2100 266Mhz, but they are the same price, does it make a difference. My Moboard has 2 slots that take up to 2GB DDR, I can either buy 2x1024 MB 2100 266Mhz, or I can buy 2x512 MB DDR 3200 400Mhz. Which would be the best way to go? CPU bus is 400Mhz Celeron. Moboard is Soyo. Thanks PS (not my PC someone I know just was asking) -
well there are only 2 broadband co's, one is DSL, the same one that made the law, the other is cable, they owe the government a favor. Both are monopolies. Either way, they have offered reqards of $10,000 for any persons who turn in others! And nope, they really are not bright regardless of the VOIP issue. They have blocked so many ports already it is not funny anymore. One is the SMTP port I use for my mail server. I am stuck using their outgoing server which is down all the time. They say its for spamming issues. I just think they want to read everyones email! Ofcourse there are alot of things here that are illegal but no one pays attention to them anyway, even simple things like red lights and turning signals, maybe 1% of the population uses a signal, and maybe 50% of them run red lights all the time, every light, maybe 20% of drivers on the road have no licence or insurance, and then there is the illegal number shops which is one of the biggest businesses here. Law, what law!? I have noone to call anyway, but id like to think that if i did I could use the latest technology.
-
That DSL wont work over here, we have a government monoploy that runs the local telephone service, and they even have a law that we cant use VOIP now. Communist ideas are creeping into the government here.

All the Kalatel Standalones have that feature.

You dont want to move here trust me, its third world, in fact im probably going to end up moving back to the Uk eventually, my brother is leaving here in October to go to London to live, my parents will probably eventually go back also. I have to make some money and get some more training in software programming before I move back. If I do i will probably try to go back to Exeter where I used to live. Rory

Darn, our DSL to get that kind of speed costs $490 a month! we have to use Cable, which is okay, around $400K upload, for $150 a month for business including TV, $90 a month for a home user. Otherwise only other option is Dynamic IP but I make sure we only use Static IPs. How are you using a dynamic IP host with a stand alone? NOIP.com requires frequent emails and the software always running on the PC.

when i talk of spamming this is what I am talking about: http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=471b4166.0406301141.9de3588%40posting.google.com&prev=/groups%3Fdq%3D%26num%3D25%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26group%3Dalt.security.alarms%26start%3D25 http://groups.google.com/groups?dq=&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=20040630182151.12194.00000958%40mb-m01.aol.com&prev=/groups%3Fdq%3D%26num%3D25%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26group%3Dalt.security.alarms%26start%3D25 Nothing to do with the entire info he has listed. I dont however see how real time motion detected digital recordings could not be submissible in court in the UK. It only records when there is motion. Its pretty simple, it is still recording the criminal in their act. Its got nothing to do with the claim that it is an indepth guide into digital video surveillance, I myself posted due to untruths regards to certain text posted on DVRs and recording times and quality. Perhaps he has not used the same equipment that I have, anything is possible. Personally I am one of the few on this forum that still supports old school CCTV. Yes they put some work into the text, but non into the design. Also, you mentioned being a Brit, so am I. I live in the Bahamas right now, and we are twice as expensive as the UK! The local Casinos still have 1000+ time lapse VCRs

You can use Twisted Pair up to 3000 feet, with an active transceiver. 1.5 miles with cat5. You can run power with it, not too far though. 750' may be too far for that wire.Id run a seperate wire, or like you said, double up the thickness of the UTP multi pair. Check with the camera manufacturer first.

First, who makes the DVMR-8? AS for the TV, it depends on the make. Any TV will do for programming and set up. The quality is not as good as a CCTV monitor, but is fine for a home. Over the network, quality is the same, the speed is faster if local. 5pps is average for CCTV. If you have motion detection just use that, then set it faster, so only the camera/s with motion will record. You can normally get real time playback if not too many cameras are picking up motion at the same time. This depends on the DVR you choose. Rory

it doesnt work, loaded once but the video was all messed up. 2nd time wont load.
-
im 'currently' sticking with standalones because i dont have time to deal with building or servicing PCs. In the future that may change, never say never, though i will always sell the more expensive industrial product 'like' kalatel DVMRe for the professional jobs.

If you have only tried those cameras, you will be much more impressed with cameras from Phillips, GE, Ganz, etc, as they are 100% better quality video. Sanyo i have used, (quite a few different onesr) are better than provideo (same as sunkwank) but not as good as the above mentioned.
-
Most DVRs have this now. The ones I use have it, though I prefer the dedicated software as it will always be more powerful. But thanks for the heads up on the other stuff. Can you post an image of the blown up image using the web server, I have used some web servers also but they werent much better than the DVRs remote video except for speed.

Kodicom/Diginet DVR card question
rory replied to bviewer's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yeah but nothing requires as many security fixes as XP. Even a new computer with XP loaded has like 10-20 fixes installed, and new ones ongoing. I dont need to install any fixes for windows ME . They have a few of them but they just mess up the system and slow things down. One thing I do like about XP is the repair feature on the CD. Ofcourse any clients/freinds PCs I work on have to have XP now, easier to support, dont need to install any drivers, normally. Personally though ill still use ME until they bring out something better and faster than XP. Question: Can you have XP and 2000 on the same PC, on seperate partitions/drives? Id like to load XP and 2000, in addition to ME, for testing, instead of having multiple PCs. In addition to that, can you load Linux on a seperate partition or better to use a seperate PC? This is just for something else (coding/hobby). Thanks Rory
