Help, Current Q3/2011 Geovision capture card differences
rory replied to ulterior_motive's topic in Geovision
Ignore the TVL, go by the "Effective pixels", most will list that in the specs. Typically 480-700TVL cameras would be 811x508 (NTSC) Geovision software is not what it used to be, now it needs a super computer, especially with 8.4 Ive since moved away and gone back to stand alones, happy so far, much less work and less headaches. However I still support some Geos, Geo will typically have better recorded video quality than the stand alone I use, but more difficult to share the video outside of EzViewLog (eg. it uses propitiatory codecs, the stand alone converts to standard H264 AVI). The Live and Network video quality is much better on the stand alone, but it has no advanced search features like Geo. It takes 3 minutes to plug in the stand alone and its up and running, 1-2 days to load windows and geo software, tweak, test, etc - less setup time with the Standalone. 25watts power consumption with the stand alone, the PC uses more like 200+. Both support IP cameras in one way or another. The standalone has Mac and Linux remote video software. Its much cheaper. Geo will load in a preset multiview and user account, the stand alone uses the default multiview and basic built in user account. There are pros and cons to both. -
Opinion on 16channel system, seasoned members help please

I recently put 12TB in a Dahua 32 channel stand alone unit -
Try adjusting the Hue on the DVR or TV. Like Tom said thats probably just how they are, with cameras some are decent some are not no matter the price or even from the same brand.
-
Q See Professional DVR - is it Dahua???
rory replied to need2shave's topic in Digital Video Recorders
looks like this brand, just a modified face as many OEMs do. Same buttons, specs look the same at quick glance. http://www.tvt.net.cn/en/product_view.asp?ttid=388 -
Main thing I dislike with the VBM/VCM is they dont switch over properly to BW, if even a little bit of light is near the camera view it will stay in color and pixelise too much to be really useful.
-
Wow thats a strong opinion
-
never heard of it and cant find it on a google search do you have any photo of it, or a screenshot of the software?
-
shows the IR spots
-
first 2, good show of IR 3rd one, nothing to see ... some basic light adjustment ..
-
Looks like fun, gotta get my hands on that CNB IR one day Im done testing until after summer now ... mosquitos biting too much and the dengue fever epidemic is out of control here now .. something like 100 a day going to the hospital. So ... its all you guys now
-
Yep he probably can ... unfortunately cameras are rarely optimal right out of the box, takes some tweaking for day night apps even with the most expensive cameras

This is from the opening of the forum: November 2003 - cctvForum.com is launched. cctvForum.com will be a place where professionals and DIY'ers alike can discuss cctv and it's use in security systems. Before installing my first Digital Video System at a retail store, I searched for a site like this to help me in my decision making process. I did not find one place that could offer an unbiased discussion of equipment, platform, camera selection etc.... Hopefully this forum can fill the void. viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1 But more importantly the forum guidelines: As a courtesy to our advertisers, please do not post links when recommending products; just post the recommended products name/model number etc.. Ofcourse, we encourage a search of our advertisers sites first for any recommended products mentioned in threads Please refrain from posting special prices available only to dealers or installers in our forums. When in doubt, post the MSRP. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3144

just because it has the same named chip doesnt mean its the same, for example there are several versions of the exview chip and they vary in price from cheap to expensive. Then there are the camera features which vary also depending on the price of the camera.
-
Cant do it, per the rules, there are advertisers who are retail stores/distributors and without them the forum wont exist.
-
I dont see them on the list. Never had a problem ordering CNB from them and their tech support was a great help for other questions, but that last order of KT&C BW bullets, I ordered 6 of one particular model and I got several totally different models. Anyway moving on, we all know we cant talk about online stores on this forum .. per the forum rules ... dont want to have to ban myself today

Have anyone tried Exacq software with small a mini computer?
rory replied to easytim's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Every time you move your mouse the OS goes to work. An Atom PC should never be used for anything more than browsing the web especially if someone went and put Windows 7 on it, even with XP its just a basic computer. Boot time has nothing to do with it, I had 600mhz Celerons booting up in under 10 seconds, but they still were slow and thats with XP. Ive used countless Atom computers with Windows 7 and one might as well just pull out all 4 wisdom teeth cause thats how painful the experience is. The world is going backwards, Asus had it right first when they put Linux on the Netbooks, we only put XP on because we wanted to do more, but we stripped it down to 400mb OS installs, tweaked the crap out of it, and we still knew there was only so much we could do with it - seems now a days people dont care how slow and useless a computer is, heck they might as well just go grab a $10 second hand Pentium 3 computer and be done with it, imagine how much one can save from that initial cost. my 5 cents. -
my client's last order with them (123) they sent him all the wrong cameras and never credited the client the difference. The sales agent was totally clueless. But that was just one order.

Im pretty certain I would be able to tell the difference between using an Atom and a Dual Core. But the OP can use whatever he likes, im only voicing my opinion based on my experiences. -

Ive also walked to the store without any issues, however I prefer to drive seeing as it is much faster. -

Then you are better off with the Mac Mini, just load raw Windows XP. At least its a good processor. The Atom is to the current Pentium Dual Core like the Celeron was to the Pentium 4, let alone bringing a Core 2 Duo into the equation. BTW these are all large consumer brands, there are many others out there that match the Mac Mini but dont come with the big name and price tag. thewireguys had a link to a site a while back that had some of them. But if you want to fight with Windows 7 on a slow Atom then so be it, I mean could just walk and save gas too -

Windows 7 on that PC alone will make it unbearably slow. Same as using a Windows 7 netbook, slow slow slow. Read the feedback on that site to get a better idea. There are much faster mini PCs out there. -

is this for a DVR card or NVR? -
Doesnt look like the IR is on, or if it is the distance to the object is out of the IR reach. Make sure that IR LED switch is turned on. If you zoom the camera out wide, or point it to the ground what does it look like?
