Double check with that shop or Geo to make sure.

Where to buy power connectors?
rory replied to toughman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I have been using something better. They actually come with the Kalatel cameras. Dont know what its called, but its has 2 screws on either side. I think they are called dual terminal strips. Radio Shack has them also. Makes it so easy so no soldering or tape is required. -

Question about a Restore CD
rory replied to Robert Oaks's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
That too, but the one I used was easier. I just cant remember the name for anything, it began with the letter A. They did back ups and restores local or over networks etc. -
Yes, if you use Active UTP Receiver, it is better quality video. If you use a passive, it will be same quality as coax, and you can only run as far as 750'. Active allows up to 1.5 miles, or repeated for longer. Both UTP types will give you no interference issues commonly found with coax. It obviously costs more, but you get close to Fiber quality, and better than coax. No it will be fine as is, we dont use fans down here, where it is hotter or as hot all 12 months of the year. CCTVTime has dealer prices shown, so no, you will generally not beat them anywhere else, those are the prices I have to pay also. Sometimes from one distributor to the next, there may be a difference of $40-100 more or less. You dont need the heater and fan. Cant answer that, but normally you can just use the windows GUI to control the PTZ if you dont want to use a keypad. The keypad is better for local live view but not required if you use the windows GUI software. I guess you have to buy those so the Kalatel will work with the GEO. I have never used it on a PC that way. http://www.cctvtime.com/shopexd.asp?id=1448 Looks like it is required to connect to a PC. http://www.cctvtime.com/shopexd.asp?id=1454 Looks like this translates the signal so that computer software can understand it. If you need more info on the Cyberdome you can also email GE direct: bryan.markley@ge-interlogix.com or go here: http://www.geindustrial.com/ge-interlogix/support/customer/cust_kalatel.html

Question about a Restore CD
rory replied to Robert Oaks's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Yes. I did this some time ago when I worked for a local company that built PCs. i cant remember the software off hand, did a search but didnt recognise any names. If I remember ill post it here. You just had to load windows and everything and set up the computer completely, then using their software it creates an image and makes the restore into 1 EXE file, which using something like Nero you create a boot CD with a customized bat file that runs the exe file on booting. 7 - 12 mile ranges. http://www.trangosys.com/products/falconplus.cfm http://www.trangosys.com/products/PTZ900.cfm This is 5.8Ghz, no licence needed in the Bahamas, but yes in the USA. 2.4 Ghz does around 4 miles max.

They can cut the Cable or DSL though, but yes, the average employe wont think to do any of that.

I recall a client, when I was installing alarms. They had Security Screens, and Bars, and an alarm. Middle of the day the grandmother only was home. Small house. The crooks came as an adult and a child. They pried the bars open with a crow bar or similar. Then they kicked the security screen in, then pushed the child through the space provided to open the door. The alarm went off, the adult went in, rushed and grabbed what they could, then ran out, all the time the grand mother sitting there in disbelief. It only took them a couple minutes, they got away with the TV, VCR, and some jewelry. The police came later on but they were long gone. Another one I remember, theives used a blow torch on a metal door, took them a little while before they got in, when they did, the alarm went off straight away, but they still ran in and grabbed some things. I cant mention others due to the violence (eg, rape) that took place on the home owners.

I think it is important for people to realise, that nothing is 100%, and anything can be overcome by the dedicated criminal. Its not a good selling point for your clients, but its good to keep it in mind just incase.
-
whats a TT case. I know of DVR/VCR lockboxes, these help, but can still be nicked as you say Nothing will stop a dedicated criminal. Here they come with blow torches just to rob a home now. Edit: ok saw your last post on what it is. Ofcourse an easy approach is to spike the power to a building, killing most electric devices inside, even with line conditioners. But then we dont want to give out too much info on all this, as it may indulge the real criminals.
-
yeah seen that site before, laser was mentioned on another forum, but only works on auto iris lens. this guy that made that site though, has a hate for CCTV only a criminal would have. In other words, if he's not doing anything wrong, or illegal, then he shouldnt be afraid of a camera recording him in public. Either way it is like a site on how to be a criminal, here is one of the funniest parts, I wonder if the guy put this site up as a joke or not: 4.3) Learning territory. Know every part of the area you will operate in. Explore by day and night. Climb every tree, building. Explore every alley, bush and tunnel. Climb every wall and railing and fence. Don't use paths or streets (only cross them at right angles). If you have a police helicopter in your area then train aerial counter surveillance ie finding exisitng cover, flares, smoke bombs.
-
not really, all they need to do is take the hard drive, which is small and light. the camera itself, or other cameras can be easily defeated by a paint gun. So you see, nothing is 100%. But a camera helps in most situations.

Thats one thing I have never used, a UPS, thoughl now they come with line conditioners built in if you spend the money, but back in the day they were just battery back up. Thing is, its really not much good here unless it has a line conditiioner / voltage regulator built in, when our power goes off it is off for hours and hours, and normally we get low voltage spikes when it goes off or comes on, good for saving existing working data. Alarm 12v batteries can last for days, I have mine right now just on battery, been going for 4 days now, I only have 3 yard beams and 1 motion though, but still, normally lasts a couple weeks! Oh yeah, I sold my Power Supply (edit) to someone that needed one in a rush, thats why! The normal surge protectors are useless here, except as an extension for other power. Rory

That watch is cool, what happens to the USB cable though, can you detach it or does it just hang? I have a watch right now by Timex, made for Ademco alarms that allows me to turn my alarm on and off remotely, or if using X-10 devices can open garage doors, turn lights on and off, etc. I even wanted to go into the watch business for the amount of new gadgets out there, havent seen this one until now though, seen some long range radio watches, PDA watches, Internet Watch, Digital Camera ones of course, and more. Some cool stuff. I have a ton of links if you want them. Here is the Ademco Timex Ironman watch, works great, I never take it off, and it just keeps going: http://www.ademco.com/ademco/products/wireless/5804Watch.htm No other alarm manufacturer has an alarm watch to date. thanks, some good info. Ive actually been using the same power supply for the last few years, changed everything else in the case except that, but will do so when I upgrade. One thing I do have is a long lasting Line Conditioner, had it from my first PC, back in 1996, still going strong However lost some CD and Zip drives and cables when was not connected at one time or another. Our power here in the Bahamas is one of the worst around, everytime I take my PC off the conditioner I get a low voltage hit and something goes! We have blackouts regularly and major dips every day, its all old stuff from years ago that has never been upgraded. Rory

I have a 2.2 Ghz Celeron, not P4, was the cheapest I could find here in Nassau at the time (last year), as kit with a cheapo motherboard with onboard everything, and 128MB DDR Ram. Thing is, its much slower than my old 950Mhz AMD chip with 512 MB SDRam, it generally doesnt hang, but it will just hog alot of memory. I cant even run XP on this, tried it, it will run, but was a slow or slower. It is fast, but like I said cant take much or runs out of memory alot. I imagine this has something to do with only 128MB DDR Ram, and sharing memory for the video card so its actually less for the OS. But I thought DDR Ram was much faster than SDRAM. Anyway, I know I have to upgrade, Im thinking of just changing everything one time instead of just adding memory, as the mother board is a PC Chips Mboard. I just have so many other bills right now, and so far I can still download 800MB movies and test and do other things, so Ill have to hang in for now.

How well is the 4GB Compact Flash going, I havent tried any of it yet, but have friends that use the USB flash devices for back up, like 64 or 128mB, on a keychain. For back up, how do you see it going, Compact Flash 4GB and higher, or another route? I see alot of DVRs with FireWire also, what exactly is out there that can actually be of use for these, I was told the new USB is faster, is this correct? Thanks Rory

There is some good learning info there, especially the history of CCTV. Thanks for the link. Rory

Ok thanks, that would explain the faster record speeds on the PC units with P4 chips I guess right? Rory

How is the remote side of it, any good? I have seen some that individually connect to each camera, or have a check mark next to each camera then you have to connect seperately, is this better than that? Price wise, how is it? Can you add any hard drive? Hard Drives are expensive down here though, but still cheap for a 16 channel. Quality wise how is it? I noticed when side by side comparison with a GE DVMRe and the PRovideo's 16 channel DVR, the Provideo was lacking alot of quality, the image was clear, but looked bad, if you know what I mean. I wonder what kind of price these guys have for it, but so far no reply so doesnt look that good as far as dealing with them. Im working on some new stuff, online store etc. Perhaps I can buy some geo cards (yes I know our previous debates, but hey, if its a good card, why not sell it right! I have to compete with all the really cheapo cards, ones I havent heard of on here yet (eg. Chateau) that are being thrown around in this country and being sold for more than a Kalatel DVR! And in old used PCs using windows 95 or 98), and maybe I can buy this EzSys from you also. Can you find out UPS shipping (or other) to the Bahamas for me please for the Geo's you sell, and the EzSys. and perhaps if you have a price yet, this Kodicom unit, thanks Doesnt look like this Kodicom will be out in the US for a while yet, searched everywhere for a price but no luck. Also info on minimum purchase amounts, and shippig time frames. Yes Id still sell the Appro, and the Kalatel, but I need some other options, especially for the more high tech users. having a wide selection is key in my new business venture. I will sub out the computer work to a local computer store so they have the head aches of that, as though I could do the computer work, Im only one person for now, will have a couple others sub contracted for alarm, intercom, access and locksmith installs. Thanks.. Rory

Looks good from the specs. Only thing I can see is it only allows up to 4 PTZ cameras, 4 alarm inputs/outputs, the standalone downfall of only 1 channel of audio and no streaming audio, and limited local screen displays. Most clients can live without the above though, especially if its a good price. Other than that is has fast pps display and recording, CDRW, USB, Multiple Monitors either VGA or CCTV or SVideo, AVI files backup, Mouse Control, 4 HDDs. Looks good. Here is the Kodicom 516 link: http://210.121.176.1/www2004_01/Products/Eng/Prod_ksr516.asp This is the second one ive seen lately that has the mouse, and multiple monitor options. One thing i Dont get is if DVR maufacturers can come out with 120pps recording, or 480pps display, why cant they start making 480pps recording? I imagine it would be a limit in the embedded OS they are using? This is the other one I found, doesnt have the CDRW though. Dont know the price yet also. I emailed their USA distributor still waiting to hear. http://www.ezsyscom.co.kr/product_view_a.htm Rory

no, but how do you mean change channels? And when you say it doesnt have a web server, do you mean you cannot connect to it remotely? It is a stand alone, so locally should be very good quality on the CCTV monitor in full mode or not. It has developers software so that is a good thing. Whats the price on the DVRs, Hunts price? Rory EDIT: my bad, that developers software is for their web eye product!
-
I havent, but that Hunt DVR is made by: www.webgateinc.com out of Korea. Same thing Provideo (Speco) Does, they buy different DVRs from Asia, and relable them. It is easier than having to buy it yourself direct from Asia though.
