Vendoma vs. Geovision and the Who's Who in the Biz
rory replied to cctvexpert's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
16 video out and 16 alarm in? Most embedded DVRs have that, the one i use is GE Kalatel, DVMRe-CT. it is actually 16 looping Video in, which means 16 out as well, in the 16 channel version, they come in 4, 10 and 16 channels. Rory -
I use GE only now, tried a few, phillips, sanyo, and once with pano, but GE has them all beat now. Their Domes are a good video image, use the Varifocal Auto Iris if you are going that route. All their cameras in the mini dome and traditional camera range accept either 24VAC or 12VDC. You can get them in either coax or UTP now. Simple set up, great picture. They have a wide selection of mini domes in the 480TVL range also, indoors are typically just color or black & white, but the vandal resistant are in BW, color, Exview, and Day Night, and look good indoors also if thats what you need. GE now has their own lenses, may just be fujinon with their label, but they are different from the fujinon's i have used in the past. They are better than the Tamron for sure, as I used the 2 different lenses the last time, and i prefer them over computar also. The auto iris cable isnt 1 foot long like the Tamrons also, incase you must use the lens on an indoor camera without a housing, so it doesnt look ugly. They are better than the Sanyo mini domes and traditional cameras also, since GE bought Kalatel they have made alot of improvements. Tech support is great, direct email or direct phone numbers to their technicians/engineering dept. They have seperate techs for each dept, like some for cameras, some for DVRs, etc, and they know their stuff. Now that said, the only other brand I would use would be Phillips if I cant get a GE for some reason, phillips has some good cameras now also. Ganz is supposed to be good, never tried it, but its too expensive on this side of the world to test, and I doubt it can get any better than the video Im getting from the GE cameras. The GE are pricey also, but worth it. I dont see Nuvico anywhere in the same league as any of the above mentioned. They and Vitek seem to be in the Provideo range of product quality, as they all appear to buy from the same asian markets and just stick their label on them. Rory

Vendoma vs. Geovision and the Who's Who in the Biz
rory replied to cctvexpert's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
even better, embedded nucleus but youd have to provide your own hardware and write your own software from the grounds up. -
Just for FYI: GE's Cam Plus is a much better camera than the Sanyo's, I use to use Sanyo but switched totally to the new GE ones, also GE has much better tech support than Sanyo, and same price/cheaper in some cases than the SAnyo.

darn right, actually id use it for myself, but for a client id have to have them use 2000 as I dont want to be going back to them all the time, plus id lock them out of everything besides the video software, ME doesnt have the security of 2000. Thats if the new hardware supports 2000. -

I dont know, but they must have given them a free system to use them as a live demo. None of my clients would ever agree to that for security reasons. Now on the discussions here, If i were ever to buy/sell a PC card DVR, after looking at the ones discussed within, id have to say Id go with Chance-I as the GUI lookes better, and they have a SDK. Thats 'if' I were to ever buy a PC card DVR. I also definately would not use XP, id use 2000. Rory -

$3000 for a 120GB 8 channel DVR does not sound too discount to me. Camera price depends on resolution and lux level? Rory -
sounds good, something to look out for, now, how is their remote software, and do they have a developers control, or SDK?

rory replied to rikky's topic in Digital Video Recorders
yes, static IP, and DHCP in the router, eg, 192.168.1.100 etc. -
actually, reply on this from GE Tech Support: "Yes the warranty will be voided as the serial number of the HDD(s) must match the serial number of the unit. We maintain records of this. However, as long as the HDs are the Maxtor ones recommended by GE it should work. There is no formatiing of the HDD required. The unit will auto-detect it and run. We write directly to the actual tracks and sectors so there are not partitions or FAT files, etc." So it can be done.

Thats what Kalatel DVRs do also, its typically only for storage, but if you want the WaveBrowser and QuickWave (for Built in CD on StoreSafe) then you would need to format the new hard drive with the same format as the original one. Theoretically it should not matter if all it is sending to the Hard Drive is video and you dont need the rest, the main thing is the warranty is more than likely void once opened, with all the brand name DVRs.
