thanks is that on a GeoVision? Reason I asked is CNB always looks worse on Geo, pretty much like that one does, no idea why but I guess the Geo compression does not like the Monalisa somehow
-
I dont know about everyone else, but I like when the cameras I install get violent criminals locked up who have stabbed or shot someone, I really dont jump for joy when they catch a shoplifter.
-
Well it takes a long time to download raw video from DVRs so the most reliable way is the way I mentioned.
-
Some do, Dahua DVRs do for example, but its more of a feature of the network software than actual upload over the network of the raw video which could take too long. So it records the streaming video which still is good in D1, though compressed. I had no hard drive for a few months and thats how I recorded, to my PC over the network.

thats cause its a 420TVL B/W camera Thats a dual CCD camera, separate color and BW cameras inside one housing, the best option for day night applications, also has a fan and built in Infrared LEDs (in a separate part of the camera) that push 75-100' outdoors. Unfortunately they discontinued that camera, and also other versions of it over the years have had a high failure rate, that batch though definitely lasted, through multiple hurricanes also. The color camera on that is almost shot though, Chip burn out probably.

CNB, KT&C, and pretty much all the OEM domes from Korea and even China have the same features, almost identical OSD menu, AGC can be disabled etc, and 3-axis is a must these days or they wont sell. Plus for the same cost of that indoor vitek color dome the others are TDN and outdoor/indoor.

I use the Dahua DVRs but havent used their hybrids, from what I can tell it might be pretty limited as to which IP cameras will work with it, plus I think its only something like 4 IP cameras and the rest CCTV. They do have desktop software for Mac, not browser based though. I rarely use IE myself, mostly always use the desktop software, it will always be more powerful.

Need Remote viewing website or software...
rory replied to hoopinator's topic in Digital Video Recorders
please post the model or brand of the DVR (not link to retail store though) or a photo if you dont know that info. -
Thats an old AvTech DVR. Also sold under other brands such as Eclipse CCTV and CpCam, and dozens more brand names back in the day like pretty much all the big US retailers used to sell them. I have one in my garage growing weeds its been there so long. There isnt much one can do to upgrade them, they kind of just suck by todays standards. At the time they were great for the price though, now DVRs much cheaper blow them away. Discontinued Product Page from Eclipse (AvTech dont have it listed anymore) http://www.eclipsecctv.com/NUBIX4LT_security_DVR.html Also alot of info on those DVRs from one of our forum members: (who is MIA ) http://scorpiontheater.com/cpcamtechsupport.aspx

The phpBB mobile web interface for CCTV forum -- BAD!!
rory replied to alpine0000's topic in Questions about this site
just setup a subfolder like /m or /mobile and have that turn on the mobile theme? or something like m.cctvforum.com i hate typing out long words .. yes mobile is long on some tiny awkward cell or tablet keyboard -
Never used them, but heard nothing but good things about them for the past 10 years, seems they have been around a long time.

I just find it strange with all the legal stuff and BBB stuff in the US how some American companies can lie so boldly and still be in business. Sounds more like something a 3rd world company would do. PS. the price and specs on that dome are standard in the industry now, other than big brands like bosch etc

This http://www.vitekcctv.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductID=578 Claims it is a TRUE day Night with ICR, when it is NOT. Had 3 units, spoke with Vitek they promised it is a TDN, sent them back, they sent the same rubbish back to me, $200 for a COLOR IR Bullet. I wouldnt touch another Vitek. (rebranded anyway)

Big thumbs down for Vitek. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22417&hilit=Vitek&start=15

Supported DVRs Supports most Dahua DVRs including some models from: Q-See, XTS Video, EDGE, IC Realtime, MACE, GEN IV, AData, and others. What is this? I already made a Portable PSS version and also a Simple View for Dahua DVRs, and working on other software. But I had a client that needed the full PSS installed with the DVR IP and Login already created. So this is the result. Example of Complete Setup Program: Why Install and not just run? Windows 7 for one thing - that annoying message that appears everytime you run an EXE that is not installed. Other reasons include installation of dependency files that Windows might not have already installed (dependant on the version). How does it work? There are several ways to accomplish the same end result, but for now.. In this example I will use INI and CMD files, so you can easily edit them if needed. There are however 2 custom EXE files included from PSS Portable. This installs the PSS msi file without user interaction (not hidden), copies the settings files to the default PSS Program Files folder (Pro Surveillance System(EN)) and then runs loadpss.exe which applies the DVR settings in the PSS.ini to the device.xml file, thus adding the DVR to the new PSS install. The standard PSS config files have been edited so that the user does not have to login when starting PSS and no password is needed to exit. Note: If you dont want to use my custom exe files then create your device.xml file manually and edit COPY-SETTINGS.cmd replacing the 2 lines for those exe's to with a line to copy device.xml instead. Tested on Windows XP SP3. Instructions 1-Create a new folder on your computer. 2-Download the latest PSS (eg. 4.04.6) - rename the MSI file to PSS.msi, and copy that to the new folder. 3-Download PSS Portable and copy these files to the new folder: loadpss.exe, PSSFS.exe, PSS.ini, PSS_Config.ini, UserLogin.ini 4-Edit PSS.ini with your DVR info (see the PSS Portable page for info on this) 5-Create 2 new text files in the new folder and rename them: INSTALL-PSS.cmd and COPY-SETTINGS.cmd, then enter the code at the end of this post for each file and save it. Note: to use the default PSS configuration comment out the 2 lines in COPY-SETTINGS.cmd which copy PSS_Config.ini and UserLogin.ini - to comment out use :: before the text. Now you can just zip or rar that up and send it to them, tell them run INSTALL-PSS.cmd for the first time, after that they can just use the shortcut on the desktop or start menu. Optionally I can create a complete setup file for each of your clients. This would be a single EXE file and the client's DVR information would be precompiled into this setup (download or setup could be password protected). You would just place this EXE file online somewhere and the client can download it and run the setup - easy as 123! ________________________________________________________________ INSTALL-PSS.cmd @ECHO OFF cls ECHO Installing PSS ... start /b /wait msiexec /qb /i PSS.msi cls ECHO Copying Settings ... start /b /wait COPY-SETTINGS.cmd cls ECHO PSS First Run .. "%PROGRAMFILES%\Pro Surveillance System(EN)\loadpss.exe" exit COPY-SETTINGS.cmd @ECHO OFF copy pss.ini "%PROGRAMFILES%\Pro Surveillance System(EN)" /y copy PSS_Config.ini "%PROGRAMFILES%\Pro Surveillance System(EN)" /y copy UserLogin.ini "%PROGRAMFILES%\Pro Surveillance System(EN)" /y copy PSSFS.exe "%PROGRAMFILES%\Pro Surveillance System(EN)" /y copy loadpss.exe "%PROGRAMFILES%\Pro Surveillance System(EN)" /y exit

a couple people I know have indoor domes outside, they have lasted from last year, amazingly. They are under eaves though and far inland though. Ofcourse we dont get the really cold weather others do. Without being sealed one would expect the moisture to get inside and cause alot of issues including fogged up cover among the least of them.

Help choosing a hybrid NVR
rory replied to tds1's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
What is the cost with Windows? Does the OS double the cost? Best, Christopher 0-$100? -
use the network software, in most cases it will allow multiple DVRs in up to a 36 or 64 way view.

Tree Faeries not happy but PTZ seeing much better today
rory replied to Numb-nuts's topic in General Digital Discussion
Yep trees and bushes can be a CCTV installers worst enemy. On a current job the new landscapers, as good as they are at what they do, went and stuck a new tree right in front of one of the cameras looking down the driveway! The owner didnt want to move the tree, so we had to move the entire pole the camera was mounted to. Same location, I have cameras I put up 10 years ago where bushes etc never existed, now I can barely reach those cameras. Plus any bush near the front of the cameras cause the Infrared to not work properly. A machete can be your next best friend. -
cheapest is $185 here.

Im going to let someone else take over from here, Ive distanced myself from the computer hardware side of it now, though having something custom built with something like an Asus motherboard and at least a Quad core would be good.

some other programs use the Windows folder for settings files and ofcourse thats where the windows log files are ... though I agree it can be a PITA when having to change or back them up plus it means having a user digging around in a main OS folder. This was from before Vista's time so its not a privilege issue, they should have just used the user app data path or program path and give the option to export/import the INI files.

Please help me with the geovision files I need copied .ini
rory replied to barryjames's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Have you checked GeoPTZ.ini in the windows folder? That seems to contain all the presets and other info. I cant confirm it though as I have never used the PTZ presets. The main Geo settings are in the file called GeoMulti.ini in the Windows folder, but it is possible it could be different between the versions and editing it or replacing the 8.4 file with 8.3's could cause Geo to crash. -
