    CCTV wallplate

Well most jobs I do have brick walls, not drywall. But you can buy wall plates to cover the hole and leave a big enough square area for the cables to come out, also something like that is useless when you have 40 cables coming through a hole HALF that size (on a job now). You will have cables coming from the wall plate to the DVR anyway, so its the same thing, except now you have yet ANOTHER point of possible failure. There are many ways to fill in the spaces around cables, etc. This is not the answer.

    CCTV wallplate

if its used where the DVR is, you can just plug the cable right into the DVR. The power plugs is more of the concern though, very simple to disable the cameras by accident. If it is a cat5 balun to BNC plate then I could see the use.
  4. In a way I wish the insurance companies and business owners cared that much here.
  5. I'm all for safety but .. 5 feet? I guess though if one is doing work for an oil company and getting paid big bucks, I mean I would do whatever they want me to at that point. I read the Work at Height Regulations for the UK tom sent me, seriously that would put me off even working in that industry there. I dont like going up high at all anyway though. Almost scaled a 40' ladder today to look for some contractors who were working on the roof .. but stopped about 15 feet off the ground .. it just didnt "feel" safe!

    CCTV wallplate

Looks like it defeats the whole purpose of a security system.
  7. never heard having to wear a hard hat to use a ladder. Do they wear a helmet when they drive a car? Cause sounds like they need to What kind of heights are they mounting these cameras at? How does one fit a hydrollic lift in a liquor store to mount a camera at 8 feet?
  8. to mount a $100 camera? it can be a $20 camera if the location your job is at does not allow ladders then they pay the cost. Never heard of a place that didnt allow a ladder ... except maybe a china shop
  9. Going by the specs that camera needs alot of light, only 0.1 lux in BW. And the built in IRs claim just 15m, so typically cut that in half. Not to mention with that design, after opening it to adjust it you have to get the ring tight up against the cover or there will be feedback from the IR.
  10. Never used them so cant comment on that, but they are cheap and have free NVR software.
  11. Im at a job site now and their ladders are so long and heavy they almost break your back, almost pull the shoulders and neck out the socket too .. trying to lift them from one place to the next .. at least all by my lonesome. End up having to drag them most the time. Luckily they have a fork lift so been using that - but again, it takes one person to operate it and another to go up. Fork lift isnt exactly safe either though as they dont have a cage, just have to make sure you dont accidentally move too close to the edge

    Panasonic WV-CW484S Dome Camera

Panasonic is the boss of analog CCTV. It would be night and day in back lighting and overall image quality between this and the CNBs. Ignore the TVL as both cameras will have similar total effective pixels. But pixels are not everything. The CNB may see more in low light though, but with that comes alot of noise. When purchased new, these cameras cost 4x the cost of the CNBs.
  13. Good call, never even thought of that. I mean, we use black cameras here, like bullets and even the old extreme cameras - but if I had the choice I would go for white or off white. The bullets arent so bad, infact they do come in silver in some cases but for the extreme cameras originally they all came in black (later they added a white option for one) - now Bosch ships them mostly in white by default. The extreme desert camera is white also - although that heat is more intense than here. But with box cameras in housings, i would just leave it the off white or white color. To make it more covert maybe paint it the color of the building. That said I painted a CNB dome black before .. but again, that thing got so hot inside - no it didnt destroy it, but why chance it. And trying to work on black cameras in the day can burn your finger prints off. I would never paint an outdoor camera black again. Now here is hoping the 6 BLACK KT&C TDN IR Bullets i just got dont burn up this summer ... LOL They come in silver but those arent stocked as often. Im going to start ordering the non black ones though from now on .. unless the client insists, or they arent available.
  14. Careful painting the housing black, during the summer it could make it devastatingly hot inside.

    Need CCTV for Small Hotel

GE, Pelco, Bosch (Extreme), all have their budget line of cameras, but that doesnt mean those come anywhere close to their regular cameras. Most cases its the same chinese OEM cameras one can buy at 1/4 the price from a smaller brand.
  16. The Android app is a program, not a web browser. The HTTP port is only used by a web browser. DMSS-Pro is an older app and Dahua suggests you use gDMSS. But if you must use DMSS-Pro DMSS Android User Manual DQGzF67F1Us
  17. Just stick the DVR in the closet or under a desk .. then put a dummy VCR somewhere visible .. when they brake in they would likely grab the VCR and not even think twice. There are lock boxes for DVRs also. For power, having the cameras only on battery backup is useless in this case as the DVR will not be powered by the camera power supply - get a good UPS, or a couple of them (when the first one plugged into the wall dies, then the other one kicks in). Could look at Solar and or a generator for longer power, Solar for clean power. Use a Voltage regulator (eg APC) at the least if using a generator, but even if not use one anyway - UPS also normally have AVR built in. If using a generator then the UPS really comes in handy for the short time between switch over - I rarely use a UPS without a generator installed unless they are willing to buy a UPS that costs more than the DVR! Could also look at the batteries use for Solar.
  18. Also make sure they have the Android version that works for the app they installed. Eg. for gDMSS 2.6 they need Android 2.2 or above.
  19. The app uses port 37777 The HTTP port is only for a web browser.

  21. Just be careful with cheap cable. Was recently on alarm site where they ran some cat5 and it breaks really easy. no idea what type it is, but just a heads up. After using RG59 and 18awg, this stuff is like doing brain surgery. Push it a little too hard a couple times and snap its gone. I still dont get how they sell this stuff for security.

    New Guy Questions

Also depends what they used to focus it with, a 3.5" LCD for example wont typically allow you to get an optimal focus. Those images look like some compression issue though, conversion to JPEG probably killed them as well.
