    Replacement for CNB VBM-24VF?

BTW a tip for focusing these CNBs in the day time - set it to EI (you may now see it out of focus in part of the image), focus, then set it back to DC. It should now stay in focus at night across the whole view.

    Advice on new system

working around razor wire is a pain, I do it all the time ... but working around thugs trying to chap you with a machete is even worse

    Web Service Problem

Correct, not needed in most cases. 37777 is all that is needed for PSS, and whatever HTTP port they make it is all that is needed for IE. Thing is, Kaid's port was open as I checked it back when he posted. Havent heard back so I guess it is straight now.

    Advice on new system

I would keep it simple if its just short runs as you mentioned, pull some RG59 siamese and be done with it, pull a cat5 the same time if you want. Now you have 18AWG power cable and cat5 for future upgrades. So you just need some BNCs. Wait .. ok hold that thought. You might not know how to put a BNC on properly, so cat5 with baluns would be easier. Still run an 18AWG cable though. Well its either 12VDC or 24VAC and that depends on which cameras are used. For your short distances it wont matter but if using cat5 for power then try to use 24VAC.

    GV600 HiRes not working?

8.4 requires at least a modern Dual Core CPU, and more appropriately a Quad or Six Core. Its their slowest and most CPU intensive version to date (some to do with having H.264 only) Also make sure it is a clean install as 8.4 uses different codecs. And what version is the card? Has to be 3.2 or later to work with 8.4 properly (according to Geo's compatibility chart)
  6. I have a client that has an RF modulator (channel vision or channel plus cant remember its been years), goes out to a filter for channel range and using channel 72 in this case, and a splitter for the cable and the modulated input. Worked fine for the past 10 years, but now they installed Digital cable boxes and complain HD channels are missing. Also they will be switching the entire area over to Digital cable soon, so I Imagine none of that will work right? Any simple ideas, other than running a cable to each TV? I havent had a request for this kind of thing in years, always just go right into the TVs now, but in this case its a large concrete home and running wire is not easy. Thanks.
  7. well now you done it, gotta drop off the "BEST night vision cameras" also Price range like that and IP MP might be more in the Vivotek Bullet camera range. Will let the IP / MP guys pitch in. Might be cheaper to use an MP camera in a housing then add IR separately.
  8. Here is one: Extreme EX85 - expensive though Similar cameras, not IP though: color only (old EX82)

    CNB VCB-34VF

Thats the 1/3" Double Scan right there .. WDR. On the loading docks in a warehouse it barely worked, the monalisas with SLBC worked better.

    eclipse: WDR:

    CNB VCB-34VF

Worse - not as sensitive under low light, eclipse feature barely works in fact its WDR or BLC is better, and its BLC is better than its WDR for doors, but overall a crappy image, the monalisa with SLBC on high outperformed it at warehouse loading docks. Dont waste your money chief. Ive used the Box and the Domes at various locations and put them through tests at my place also, so that was MY experience. If you need something better than the 24VF and have the cash instead maybe look at Samsung (double the cnb price) or Panasonic (double the samsung price) BTW: VCM-24VF - 0.05/0.005Lux VCB-34VF - 0.1/0.01Lux That 0.0002 Lux you are seeing is with max DSS which is totally useless for any application.
  12. This might be the best option. Get a couple cheap PCs and just have the network software auto login to the DVR and come up on OS startup.
  13. Also what kind of cable is that being used? It doesnt sound like CCTV Coax? Coax doesnt come with phone wire or yellow wire.
  14. You will need to decide if you need an expensive camera for those small rooms or if a $50 one would suffice.

    TV to set up cameras

all portable DVDs have rechargeable batteries .. i have whats left of a coby with a swivel screen. once i remember to turn it off after each use I get a few days out of it now. But like i said, dont expect to be able to make the perfect focus with them all the time. For objects to focus on, just pick something with contrast, eg, front grill of a car, fence, etc.

    web service problem

it wont work in Firefox without the IE plugin as it is ActiveX. Also it wont work in IE9 yet.
  17. Its been years but here is a quote from one of my posts back then: basically what I did is use BTSpy (also downloadable from the same link for the BTwincap software) and save the results as a text file. You must run the existing DVR card software with at least the one single camera conected to port 1 and active, following the BTspy directions, click on the channel as it asks. Then uninstall the DVR card drivers from the control panel, system, then run Bt drivers installer and select custom, select the text file saved from Btspy and then it should work with generic software, including WebCamXP, among others.

    TV to set up cameras

Which works great IF you can pre-gauge your FOV, know the exact distance a camera will be from its area of interest, and have some test targets set up at the appropriate range(s). Should I Include a Disclaimer that its only useful if you are setting the camera to its widest FOV? (99% of applications) I didnt know I had to go into such detail, perhaps I will stop what I am doing next time and spend an extra hour writing an entire article.

    Preferred Output On DVR

It depends on the DVR and the Monitor. They all differ. Normally I just use VGA, HDMI if its a big HD LCD, Composite if its an extra monitor. Composite can be better or worse, depends on the DVR and monitor used. In the old days composite to a CCTV CRT Monitor or CRT TV was the best, since it was in most cases converting from composite to VGA which is never great.

    TV to set up cameras

A 9" High Res CCTV CRT Monitor (or larger) is the best, though like the rest I also use a portable DVD Player. LCD is generally not as good quality for focusing, just doesnt show all the pixels, so its a gamble. In fact a 13" CRT TV is better for focusing than those LCDs, but carrying it up a ladder is a PITA, and finding one these days can be difficult (at least down here). I focused alot of cameras at different places over the past week and in most cases I used the 9" CRT as that got me the best focus (on ladders as well without issue), had the portable DVD hooked up as well but the 2 images do not compare at all (use the DVD for color settings/OSD setup and adjustment). I focused some today with the DVD but have to go back and fine tune a couple with the CRT. Either way the portable DVD player is handy and cheap and is a must (or something similar at least 7"), though fine tuning/testing requires something better - my truck doesnt leave home now without BOTH of them. BTW I Also have a focus meter but rarely use it, reason is if there is motion in the video it will never focus, or take forever, also I find I get a better focus by eye. For bright sunlight I carry a black tee shirt [1] and throw that over my head and the monitor (also use it to just generally block some sun from my head and neck in addition to a cap) but only with the DVD as with the CRT its too dangerous (hence Id never try focus with the CRT in the bright sunlight), but its not best to focus it in that bright sunlight anyway, wait for low light, early evening for example or a cloudy day. Some use filters to open the iris though I never had any luck with them. If I havent explained myself good enough, to make it simpler ... for my own cameras I focus and adjust with the portable DVD, if I dont like the image quality then I break out the CRT in the evening. Clients are different and if I have the cameras prior to installation then in many cases I would prefocus in a controlled lighting environment for best possible video [2], otherwise you do the best you can out in the field. [1] It does not necessarily have to be a black tee shirt, it can be a black towel, a blue tee shirt, or whatever. [2] if zoom will be set to widest FOV, (99% of my jobs) OR if decided zoom using a view finder
  21. Maybe install 4 megapixel cameras and call it a day? Although what Soundy suggested makes more sense There is always just the 32 channel dahua DVR also if not using IP cameras.
  22. Luxriot generally works for webcams and generic cards. I got a geovision card to work with Luxriot before using the Bt drivers, only one channel though with that card I used. You would need to try the btwincap drivers: http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ Related threads: (explains how to use btspy to get the channels etc) viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3865&p=31027&hilit=btwincap#p31027 viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10140&p=66402&hilit=btwincap#p66402 viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1712&p=12670&hilit=btwincap#p12670
  23. You could try Luxriot, though it may only work with 1 channel.

    CNB VFL20S

Hi. if your VFL20S came with a light blue leaflet and a red and yellow power card. then it is old stock. at least 2 years old. both the VFL20S and the VFL21S were then releast as BNC and UTP so then came with a 15 page manual covering both and the rest in the range were you have the option to buy just BNC or BNC / UTP its just down to how old the stock is. Best let CNB know this then, because they are selling it without UTP in the US http://cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?inc=spe&seqx_prod=1155#p_v1 Also there is no VFL-21S.
