there are special fuses? im looking for magic ones, do they exist?
-
Yes analog These people round here cant afford avigilon yet .. gotta wait till they win the lottery I appreciate the heads up though

Dont forget an Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) or a UPS with AVR, to protect the entire system from surges and brownouts.
-
BTW I managed to fit the BNC and power connections for the VBM inside the dome on one side, for the one I was testing here at my appt.

My guess is manufacturers are cranking up the gain in a competition for the best low light specifications. Best, Christopher And whats even more frustrating is I used some CNB monalisa box cameras side by side on a warehouse job with some really old existing samsung box cameras and the samsungs, even though many were bad and lenses dirty, blow away the CNB monalisas for quality. Plus the CNB Box cameras didnt even have a proper backfocus adjustment. Bottom line is, Im done with cheap as its not worth it, only cheap ones I will use now are maybe something like the CNB indoor domes or KT&C bullet cameras or perhaps the really cheap $30 Turret IR domes for small areas and poor people. Other than that its going to be samsung or panasonic, maybe even IP - or maybe I will just do something else, cant take the stress of a poor image anymore, Im half blind as it is already. BTW I have an EX30 here to install for a client .. that should be "fun"!

Yeah but thats a tiny little area to cover, a camera a 1/4 the price of the VBM would look good there also My biggest problem with them as mentioned is the noise, and the lack of switching over to BW unless it is near pitch dark. But they arent alone, every true day night I tested over the last year had noise issues older cameras never had in the same lighting conditions. I have them at several locations and noise has always been an issue - even if it is bearable on the DVR end (one can simply turn down the monitor's contrast also), over the network is where it really becomes annoying. I got a $50 bullet that has no noise, if there is light, it sees and its clear, while the VBM in the same exact car park is full of noise in color OR bw with the same amount of light, a powerful dusk to dawn. It works great with Infrared, but for a regular day night app its the most annoying day night camera Ive ever worked with, and Day night apps have been 99% of my work over the past 10 years. What I also notice is the lack of consistency, where a couple would be good but most are not. Seems like QC is out the window these days. Eg. VCM-24VF - even in this low light it still wont switch to BW VBM-24VF - with a TON of lighting Now if i was just trying to sell it I could do this VCM-24VF vs KT&C Mini Bullet (obviously there is loss from compression in both of them but its just to compare) KT&C

It wont do that though once the camera is sealed.

question about pcsurveillance.net cards
rory replied to xkill911's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The newegg one was done by mistake you can put that back in if you like. No CCTV store links allowed though im afraid. I dont make the rules. Even with 11,000 posts here Im also not allowed to post store links. Bottom line is if the advertisers walk so does the forum. What we suggest, as is the only way we can help anyway, is to post the actual make of the product, not a link to who sold it. You can alternatively PM me the store link and I will get the make for you if possible and post that info here. "As a courtesy to our advertisers, please do not post links when recommending products; just post the recommended products name/model number" viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3144 -
First you will need a new computer, Windows 7 is a Hard Drive, CPU and memory hog. XP could literally run on a 1GB partition. Then when you find a Geo card that works with Windows 7 you will need the newer Geo software, which again will need a new computer as its slow slow slow! Use to run Geo on a celeron just a couple years ago, now even a core 2 3Ghz gets stressed with 8.3 and even worse with 8.4.

question about pcsurveillance.net cards
rory replied to xkill911's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Its ridiculous for anyone to say you need an Intel made motherboard, that is just not true. Ive used the cheapest mATX MSI or Asus or Gigabyte or even Foxconn (with Geovision and others) and never had any stability issues. -
How do you know a noisey camera? (sorry if posted before)
rory replied to suemccartin's topic in Security Cameras
Bugs will do it. Try spraying around it with some bug spray, may keep them off it at least until it rains. Good for at least spiders. -
I dont agree .. I just spent a few hours on one here ... tried everything .. Basically the Monalisa has way too much noise outside at night with or without light, DNR on high, or in color or BW (and it has to be very dark to switch to BW). Ive noticed this at a few different locations where they were installed. This noise makes it particularly awful over the network after compression. Anyway they are still good for some applications but IMO they just arent worth the savings for outside, I wont be using them again.

noise, lots of it, color and wont switch to BW .. BTW its the CNB Monalisa ... camera has way too much noise at night .. -
looks like moisture got inside, happens with alot of new domes we get from up North. Or, if some water gets inside when installing it, such as a single rain drop even, or sweat. Open it up on a sunny day for a couple hours to dry out. Seal it up good so no rain can get inside, use caulking if need be.

This is just an example, cheap color IR Turret domes in a store/warehouse, its pitch dark. There are just 2 in the main store area but notice how they all compliment each other by lighting the whole store up (cam2 and 3). Ofcourse it is not the same size as your location, but in theory it should work similar. Ofcourse you could just buy the Turret IR without the camera, or dont use the camera part of it, just stick them in each corner and use them as IR for other higher res cameras.
-
Since its for break ins, just put cheap IR cameras at each entrance and exit. Basically if you put a cheap IR camera in each corner they will all work together and should light the place right up. When I say cheap I dont mean Ebay, Amazon, or Costco.

Is the iOS app out for Avigilon Control Center yet?
rory replied to alpine0000's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Everyone hating on the 3rd party developers Most make their 3rd party apps because the manufacturers apps are lacking in one way or the other. And seriously, $2.99? Thats cheaper than a Big Mac. Poor fellow cant be making a living off that ... if it does the job when the manufacturer's own software does not, if even only for a little while, I would think people would be a little more grateful. I mean $2.99 compared to the cost of a Megapixel camera?? Not a fan of Iphone/Ipad devices myself but ... anyway. -
New 8x36LED AUDIO CCTV CAMERA 1TB Net Security DVR Sys
rory replied to mana's topic in General Digital Discussion
No idea about the DVR but it says it only has IE Remote Access which is not good enough IMO. Also the cameras sound like complete rubbish, 1/4" 6mm SHARP ... thats something one should run from anytime they read it. -
Please dont post links to online stores, thanks.
-
Thats dealer pricing though (actually below it) so retail it is much more. We arent allowed to discuss dealer prices on the public forum ..

Sounds like she bought a false sense of security. She opened the door to a complete stranger. -

Unfortunately, there is nothing CCTV could have done to stop that attack. -
Power Shuts off? Bad power supply/capacitors 1-Change PSU 2-Change MOBO Other issues can cause it but PSU is the most common - in my experience as a PC tech in a 3rd world country with terrible electricity, PSU is the most common cause. I replace them several times a year, rarely ever any other hardware - hard drive is 2nd on the list for replacements. AVR normally prevents HDD from failing but PSU's seem to fail either way, ofcourse more so without an AVR. BTW, I wouldnt dream of plugging in a computer or DVR without an AVR, if you have one in this case then its likely just a poor PSU (Ive had brand new PSUs die 5 minutes after plugging them in, even $100 Antec PSUs) or extra heavy brownout (Ive had clients with AVRs and UPS that caught fire, even APC), if not on some kind of AVR then its expected - regular surge protectors are typically useless for anything other than basic surges.
