  1. Not sure but doubtful as its firmware so the firmware would most likely need to be altered.
  2. Ive never seen a distributor that will do that either Most dont even stock the items like some online stores do. Drop ship is the name of the game these days with US Distributors, and ofcourse most online stores also. There is little difference between them these days. Anyway, can we get back to the DSS software?
  3. These days very few distributors really know what they are doing also.
  4. On the flip side, the nice thing about online stores is that since they will sell to anyone, distributors now have to be more competitive and also they have less power over the installer as they know if they treat them like crap as many still do, the installer can simply go somewhere else in the matter of seconds.
  5. You could create your own webpage, see this thread for examples viewtopic.php?f=2&t=23345&p=139524
  6. thanks for the info I put that back to 60 minute packs, but keeping motion record, even if it means more files created, its so much easier to search through for events at least in this application. I may need to go through some of the cameras and see which ones will pick up too much motion and just leave those on regular only, and maybe set some to motion only.
  7. Wow that CNB monalisa camera (top right corner) looks amazing to me. Yeah monalisa's are great under low light .. sometimes daytime is just not that great and unless it gets really dark they dont switch over and therefor get alot of noise/blur oh gawd power went off again .. i had to go into the pitch dark garage to search for my old UPS ..then fool around in the pitch dark apt with matches trying to find the socket on it to plug the power strip into .. after all that .. 2 minutes later once it was up and running and back on the internet .. power comes on
  8. I've seen that one too. Company says X division is only making a million a year. Lets merge the technology, close the division, and drop the things that don't sell in large numbers. Years later, people still talk about how stupid the move was and how they wish they had that division's profits again. Don't bother asking me how I know. It's just too painful to relive ... Yep, and with Extreme, the EX82 was their best product overall. They discontinued it but brought out an IP version called the EX82 IP. Only other non IP Extreme camera is the EX30 which has a 5-50mm lens. So I check the specs on the EX82 IP, it SAYS it has ethernet AND bnc outputs .. So im thinking great, client doesnt care its $500 more than the non IP version was, just wants it for their DVR ... but there is no way "I" am promising them its going to have that output when it costs so much and I havent used it yet, so I tell them have the Bosch Distributor they are dealing direct with out of Florida (sigh), have them confirm it - get this, the Bosh Distributor could not promise, they said they dont know. So the client ordered the narrower EX30. Sucks.
  9. The EX26 LED ... now thats a great mid range IR ... after that was the UF100 but it was best to bypass that right to the UF500, that lit up a driveway like it was day light, hundreds of feet. Bosch in their idiocy have discontinued most of those now.
  10. With Extreme CCTV, their EX82 10 years ago worked great, they redesigned it dozens of times since that as I had several different versions from them over the years and trust me, their first versions were the best and lasted the longest, while the newer ones died out.
  11. As an engineer, I can tell you they may have gotten it to a certain point and someone said ship it... Theyve been making them for at least 10 years now.
  12. My best guess is the circuit couldn't take the extra voltage drop in the 12V case of two diodes effectively, but they still wanted some protection for reverse hookup in the 12V case. Could've just used Schottky diodes to make a bridge but that would have added another dollar to the part cost. Maybe they didnt have those diodes back then or they weren't stable enough at the time. I doubt a dollar would have made a diff so has to be good reason. I never had a problem with it though, Id just tie it into the appropriate input.
  13. Does it use a DVR card and if so what type?
  14. Just out of curiousity, can it do that with cars moving or just sitting still? Dont know ... I imagine both. The eclipse feature actually was a better image mounted up high but didnt get any shots of that. I wouldnt use the blue-i again though, best to stick to something like Panasonic for WDR.
  15. Thats how most the Extreme CCTV products were. Maybe its because they draw more current with 12VDC than 24VAC .. not sure.
  16. CNB DFL-20s Indoor 3.8mm Color Dome placed outdoors LOL
  17. 10 year (literally) old EX82 at beach front home: (enlarged image .. from network software running 1360x768)
  18. I used the EX12 before, but its really only for small areas like a front door. The price new is ridiculous now though, there are so many other options for that short distance.
  19. KT&C 550TVL Mini 3.6mm Color Bullet
  20. CNB Blue-i Eclipse Feature: Regular Eclipse Feature: Negative (PC enhanced) WDR Feature: Regular WDR Feature: Negative (PC enhanced)
  21. lights off ... Top Left: Old BW Bullet (0.1lux?) --- Top Right: CNB Monalisa Bottom Left: Old TDN Bullet with EX26LED --- Bottom Right: Color Bullet Lights on .... Top Left: Old BW Bullet (0.1lux?) --- Top Right: $20 Amazon IR Bullet Bottom Left: Old TDN Bullet (IR Off) --- Bottom Right: Color Bullet
  22. But you said the DVR cost $400? Ofcourse can always get a DVR from amazon, I had a SuperDVR 4-ch USB DVR that only cost me $6! its in the trash now though for obvious reasons
  23. Each file has some header information telling it what it is, so that it can be played and converted, or not. So if you have 20 files instead of 1, thats 19 more headers, more headers mean more bytes, and not sure how much information there is in there exactly but it can add up, they also have some info at the end of each file also. No they dont have to wait until the end, they can use the IR remote to select to start playing the next file or any other file. Ofcourse thats where motion recording comes in really handy, the files are even shorter so you dont always have to play the entire file to find an event, just click on it to start playing and see if anything is there, if not click on the next file. Plus you bypass all the times when there is no motion at all. Yes you are correct, if using Sort by file and you enter say 12:00AM-12:02AM then you can play or download that part only. If you sort by Query then you will be playing and downloading the entire pack duration. Problem with sort by time, you dont always know what time you are looking for so in most cases you still first have to play through each long file. I didnt know you could download that sort by file though, I gave up on using that query before because I kept getting query errors from the DVRs when searching for motion events. So yes you schooled me on the download part ( ) but the issue still remains of finding that video .. for me and you its simple enough no matter what .. but for clients that dont even know what a left mouse click or desktop is ... oh boy .. Tell it to the clients, they hate it as they cant fast forward, imagine that takes 1 day to play back 1 days worth of video. Remember they cant fast forward all cameras, just one at a time. However shorter motion event clips helps alot to quickly bypass the times where no motion occurred. Yes see above.
  24. Yes looks like they actually based PSS 4.xx off of DSS ... but DSS still has its considerable differences which is interesting .. not sure what application it would be needed for really but its fun to play with. I guess something like a national chain of stores is where it would come in handy. The old PSS was called EPSS, I have download link on my site. Although it might look a little less professional its a TINY program at only 6MB download compared to PSS 4.01 at 15MB or PSS 4.04 at 30MB, and it has a much faster GUI.
  25. Advantages I can see right away: -operators can be limited in that they never would know the DVR's login info as that is all created by a manager on the server and a list of assigned DVRs come up when they login with the Client software -a manager or admin can set it up anywhere such as at a main remote location like the central office, from anywhere, and the operators can connect from anywhere also. -operators would have restricted permissions controlled by the manager remotely -managers can check the status of all devices -managers can assign bandwidth per service -managers can setup emaps remotely which are available to each remote operator -managers setup recording on the DSS Server, eg. on Motion, Video Loss, Prerecord, etc. -remote operators playback from the DSS Server and not the DVR -the client GUI is much faster than the PSS gui
