Analog video samples????????? anyone????????
rory replied to Toaster's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
If you use the Dahua LE-AS it would be even cheaper BTW ... this is the cheapest, all used old broken cameras brought back to life . even the IR in camera 3 was an old Extreme CCTV EX26LED that was thought to have been struck by lightning and was on the way to the trash (otherwise that area is almost pitch dark). and a demo DVR .. basically everything was 100% free including the old 2nd hand PC I use to watch it remotely from .. and im recording over the network so i dont even need a hard drive in the DVR as its using the old one on this old PC -
definitely worth it, cant beat their prices on computer parts and monitors. For example, my Parents just bought a 15" LCD TV here for $240!! Imagine what they could have got from them for that price Ofcourse 7 eleven probably could have sold them a better LCD TV for that price too.

D1 @ 30fps, CBR... 2048k or 1536k bit rate? Big quality diff
rory replied to Toaster's topic in General Digital Discussion
Because as I mentioned about if there are multiple files packed the total space used increases, so its important to note that especially if you have thousands of files, and many drives, it could mean a difference of a few days to a week - DVR hard drive space. But why someone would WANT to decrease the pack duration is simple, when playing back multiple cameras you will have to sit there for 1 hour to go through the video and that is not acceptable to clients. You can use the drag but it is not the same as fast forward and most clients dont want to use it - in fact it would be fine if they could at least fast forward all cameras at once, which in the case of Dahua is not possible until the new firmware. Going through just 1 file at a time is useless to most home users. Ok so locally you can backup the specific time which is good, but you still have to find it first. Most clients get lost at playback because of the issues listed above, I havent found one that even wants to back it up yet (on the dahua), just playback the video to see who came and went. It makes more sense to back it up over the network though, as you can save it right to AVI. -
Except they sell cctv equipment now so cant link to them Also need a US credit card and US address to buy from them (in our case)

Far as I recall, the files are still based on the Pack Duration at the local playback also? Unless its a Motion (M) event. So you would still be saving a 60 minute file. -
Nice Whats the box for though? or was it just left from the bullet camera connections?

Because you have to download the whole pack duration, eg. 60 minutes. -

Actually DSS handles 1000 cameras now that you mention it, and we are using 32 channel DVRs special ordered, and the person I buy from here (I dont import them) has about 20x16 channels in stock, about 20x8 channels in stock, several 4x channels. And thats a rather ridiculous statement about Chinese products since almost everything labelled MADE IN USA is made in China, not to mention the huge DEPT you guys have with China, you owe them more than you give them credit for. And BTW I was answering his first post. -
Thing is we are actually ahead of you guys in some areas, we monitor by radio PRIMARY, while in the US radio is secondary. Additionally we are monitoring alarm systems from Canada over the Internet. But its okay, as we are not in the Caribbean.

Coming from Standalone (GE Kalatel) to Geovision back to Standalone ... check out the Dahua Products ..... They also have software for Enterprise Systems Check out the PSS and more specifically the DSS manuals in the link in my sig for more info on them. -
Im assuming me and you are the few on this forum that actually operate in crime infested areas.

Regarding basic motion detection record Video from DVRs .. I just played back Motion Events from a DVR at a large house from Friday from 8am-4.30pm, the time the staff are there from and until. This is from one camera out of 23. I got 133 total motion events. I got a total of 10 false alarms out of that 133 events, which is not bad. All but the following single motion events were People or Cars rain drops power surge Sun comes out Bird Bird Bird Unknown Shade & Wind Bird Bird BTW there is alot of bush around the camera, and the pole the camera is mounted to is covered in bird crap, yes the bird love this pole

Just checked the DVR using PSS and its gone through 4.05TB since I installed the 6x2TB drives (12TB) approx 5 weeks ago. Each drive is actually 1.81TB. 2-3 weeks ago it was on Disk2 having used the full 1.81GB of Disk 1 and 640GB of Disk 2 totaling 2.5TB from day 1, and then I made the changes. So from then, in approx 2-3 weeks, it ate up 1.17TB of the 2nd drive and 430GB of the 3rd drive totaling 1.6TB in 2-3 weeks across 23 cameras - note the application is either pitch dark or has a ton of infrared, 5 days a week there are 4 maids, 1 gardener, 1 handyman and 1 butler not to mention pool cleaning, outside landscapers and other service companies that come and go, its like a hotel - so that is alot of motion switching going on. Also bear in mind one camera is looking at the front gate which picks up almost every car passing on the main road So the changes HAVE helped somewhat, but I think it will mean either disabling Motion record all together or using ONLY motion record and not Regular Record. Since this DVR has 12TB its going to take a long time to find out. LOL. Time to do some tests on a DVR with a much smaller HDD! -

Cool .. i had the 32 channel at 1024 with 23 cameras connected and 6x 2TB drives and it was eating through those drives even at 7fps D1. After 2 weeks it had already eaten up one drive and was at 640GB of the second drive ..... So I dialed 7 of the inside cameras down to CIF and 256 and 1 main inside one left at D1 but switched it to 640 which is the default. Then changed 2 of the outdoor ones (front door cam and one that looks at the dogs eating LOL) to CIF and 256 and the rest to D1 but switched to 640 ... Im hoping it will eat less. Now that said .. another thing that eats the drive up ... Consider "Pack Duration" ... basically how long each regular record file is saved for .. default on dahua is 60 minutes. Figure that each file has some header info .. as these files need to be identified by Dahua's player and conversion process. It might seem better to set that Pack Duration lower like 3 minutes so you dont have to search through hour long videos, or download hour long videos ... but that would mean 19 more header info than if it was just a single 60 minute file .. add that up over 6x2TB Drives .. that COULD be considerable especially if each file also saves some footer info like to tell it end of file, etc. Next consider Motion Record. Motion Record is sweet as even with the odd false alarm it is easier to find events as long as masking is performed properly. BUT, when you have Regular Record and Motion Record enabled in the schedule, when the DVR picks up a motion event it stops Regular Record (whap, 60 minute file gets closed and finished up at say for example the 20 minute mark), then Motion Record takes over and saves that file for however long. When the motion event has completed, Regular Record resumes and yet another file with headers etc is created. SO even though they arent both recording at the same time, it seems possible that if using Regular AND Motion Record one actually takes up more space on the hard drive/s. It would therefore lead me to believe that the longest record times will be achieved with EITHER the default settings of Regular Record at 60 Minute Pack Durations or Motion ONLY Record with proper Masking. But tell that to the client that has to sit through playing 60 minute files to find an event or the tech that has to download 60 minute AVI files (eg 100MB) from slow household connection .. OR the possibility of loosing a motion ONLY event for lack of light or some other unforeseen reason. Oh well .. just thinking out loud -
Well I will check them out .. but still cant sell 10 of those type of systems a day.. .. alarms still nothing we in CCTV can ever compete with until least the prices drop considerably. But what about the wireless keyfobs for panics etc? What bout hard wired panics? What about a keypad on the wall to arm/disarm the system? 2 way wireless button to arm/disarm it and tell you when it is armed or disarmed? And I really mean keyfobs that can fit on a keychain .. not a iPhone .. Also people want to be able to set the siren/silent panic off manually, nothing to do with the camera. What about the video monitoring by radio and not less stable and less secure Internet? Do any of you guys have an alarm system, so I know we are on the same page?

VideoIQ does both with 2-way audio if you want. Police are giving priority to video verified alarms around here. Also with you door contact you are ONLY getting an alarm IF someone opens the door. With VideoIQ you will get a alarm well before they get near your front door. 2 way audio in the alarm industry has been there for years, but the door contact is just an example, I use it and millions others do also, its stopped burglars in their tracts here even at my own place (though more try to get through the windows), but ofcourse there are beams for the yard or even other more elaborate devices, and again beams only run around $100 for a pair and you can series 2 of them so an upper and lower beam have to be crossed, to help prevent false alarms, or what Ive done with a ton of installs before was to mount a beam directly on the wall covering the doors and windows, so for example 1 pair of beams could cover a whole front row of windows or doors, getting them before they open the door or get in through the window. Then again I dont want an alarm around the yard personally I just want to get them if they try to break in, we have too many workers stopping by unannounced, and facial recognition wont help as its never the same people and Im rarely informed. Look I never said something like VideoIQ doesnt have its place, but its still not a replacement for a Burglar Alarm System, and definitely not for the typical application. Its like saying my door contact is a replacement for the lock (shhh dont tell anyone I never got the lock fixed!). Everything has its place and these devices all go hand in hand to compliment each other, there is no one and only solution when it comes to security. Eg. I use my cameras when Im home, but I wont leave home without the alarm on even if the cameras are recording local or offsite, I got 30 watt sirens and if someone comes to my door they best know that siren is going off and waking the whole neighborhood up .. I dont take visitors by the way. If I could find something that legally shot of bullets at them too I would jump at it Yes sirens DO work, Ive watched the criminals on camera as the sirens gone off and they go running like scared little rats. You know what happens when I see a burglar on camera and Im home, i set the sirens off thats just another small reason for an alarm system ... without them my car windows would have been broken many times. Oh yeah then I grab the weapons and go confront them until the cops come if they ever do!! But you know whats more valuable than catching them and putting them in jail just to live off tax payers money, making sure they and their ilk never come back. when we can tie in wireless 2 way keyfobs for arm/disarm and wireless panic buttons, wired alarm devices like panic buttons (banks, stores etc), keypads, etc and hook up loud sirens to them as well if we dont want it silent (most cases) even sirens with sound drivers ...then maybe we could look at a camera system replacing even the most basic alarm system ...

By drop out you mean video lost? Maybe a power issue? If the signal gets too low the DVR wont see the camera even if you can still see it on a monitor.

Camera image whited out during the day, fine at night?
rory replied to bricor's topic in Security Cameras
The IR dome is probably a different issue, if its non TDN then its probably Electronic IRIS, so just need to adjust that level during the day time (if it has the adjustment). Adjust it to where it looks normal. not too bright or too dark, too dark and at night it would be black out instead of white out -
We need some of them here .. least for the beer part ..

Would u suffice a LINUX OS for FPS
rory replied to mcs's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Ive switched from Geo to a stand alone now .. Many standalones now have all the features the clients need. Plus the quality of Geo has decreased with ever increasing issues and in addition to that its getting harder locally to find compatible CPUs and Motherboards especially since something like 8.4 needs at least a quad core, not to mention the time it takes to properly build and setup a Geo compared to just under 3 minutes plugging in a standalone to record. -
CCTV doesnt replace a burglar alarm, plus beams are not expensive, alarm systems are peanuts compared to CCTV. Funny, but I had a meeting just yesterday with a rather large US bank, and they disagree with you. Burglar alarms don't offer actionable signals anymore in the US. First question from the police on any alarm (even from a bank) is "is it verified", meaning "do you have video". We are replacing burglar alarms with cameras. Every single day at this point. Lets see .. video (only) on the outside of my front door ranging in the $800 camera (TDN IP) and $800 (NVR, License, Switch) system price monitored by internet @ $50 ISP charge a month + the cost of the Video Monitoring, and sending alarm events to email .. and IT service charges running in the $150 per hour range .... or a contact on my front door tied to 3x 30 watt sirens and strobe lights ranging in the $200 price and monitored by radio @ $30 a month sending alarm events to cell or any other phone .. and Alarm service charges running in the $50 per hour range .... hmmmm .. easy choice. I guess thats why alarm companies are installing several dozen alarm systems every day including weekends. Gee I gotta get back into alarms

Any 7 eleven should carry them ... What's a 7 eleven? Ive seen them on american TV so .. whatever they are they must exist

Good for them, I dont agree with Banks either. Good luck to them Good for you, glad you have some work, only 2 billion more alarms to replace.
