    HDCCTV is the new standard

That makes life easier, let them deal with the IT side (outside of the main security IT stuff) and then you still do your thing and get paid.

  3. Soundy just explained this camera I looked at today, it worked the day before then the next morning it just got whiter as the sun came up, and been stuck in that position since then. Also, this camera is a driveway entrance camera, so although I didnt play back the entire night before it happened, it could have had issues from car lights the night before. Im my case this camera is on its own power plug separate from all the other cameras, just into a surge strip, so its possible it got hit as well. This is an old camera BTW installed by someone else. If it were MY camera, yes I would take it down, gut it, and find out whats up - but for the client, its easier to replace it.
  4. Funny this thread came up as I had to goto a job today to check a whited out camera, powered off once, didnt fix it, powered off another time, still white ... 3rd time and it worked. Ofcourse wont know until monday if it sticks again, and then just going to replace it (its like 30' up need a fork lift to get to it which none was available today). So, might want to power off and on a couple times to be sure. The AI lens gets the signal from an AI controller on the camera, so if thats shot then it wont do anything. Now, with most (not all) TDN Domes and Bullets the AI is normally teamed with the IR cut on the lens, where as the Iris is really 3 small pieces of black paper like material inside a metal enclosure, the IR cut, a small plastic like clear filter is also inside that. It can get stuck for example if any part of the metal enclosure gets bent just a tiny bit (I did that myself by taking the IR cut out of one camera). How that could happen other than physically putting ones hands on it I dont know, though Ive seen that on at least one Box camera where it switched too much back and forth every minute all night and somehow got stuck. If you havent touched the camera and it hadnt been switching back and forth over and over then its probably best just to replace the camera. It would take some troubleshooting to determine if its the lens and you might not be equipped to deal with that, though those type of lenses are not expensive, but it might not be the typical M13 TDN AI Lens either.
  5. If its been working and nobody opened it up and bent the piece the AI and IR Cut filter sits in (causing it to stick in one position), the mechanism is probably shot, need a new TDN AI Lens most likely - unless its not receiving a signal from the camera board. If the camera has a setting for Electronic Iris (EI or AES) then try that instead.

    Some IR questions...

that camera uses the EMCCD, they are VERY expensive, I recall a Samsung EMCCD camera being in the $5000 range, way out of the average consumer's budget. At the time EMCCD started to come about, even the most popular goto high end range for Day Night surveillance, Extreme CCTV, was not near that cost.

    HDCCTV is the new standard

My last words on this topic .. The HDCCTV cameras cant see squat at night with 1 lux specs (without DSS or IR), the cameras are at least 2 times the price of the somewhat equivalent non HDCCTV cameras, need new expensive wiring, need an expensive HD DVR and can only run a few HD cameras at a time. Thanks but no thanks, I cant think of any application I can use them for.

    Play misty for me--NOT!

Yeah normally no need to caulk a box camera housing I recently installed 13 of them on one job, they are more work than a dome or bullet though. But then you can change cameras, for this job I used them incase they want to change some to MP cameras or even just better analog ones like Panasonic, the CNB Box cameras suck by the way, its normally the other way around but their domes are a better image, even having used an expensive lens for the box camera.
  12. no but i used their CMS software and its great, really fast GUI even on slow computers, works well. I was considering CNB for a budget IP solution, that or Geovision, but I prefer the CNB CMS if thats what their NVR software is like.

0 lux http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=918 but only 1lux for a TDN without IR?? wow .. maybe ok for inside a retail store but even that is pushing it these days. http://www.ktnc.co.kr/english/viewtopic.php?t=904 analog installers are used to extreme low lux levels .. there is no way this will work for them.

    IR Illuminators

I used the 50 and the 100, in fact they are still actively at an install but we are switching back to IR as that goes alot further plus client is tired of the light (dont ask). Neither were satisfactory for the distances they claim, even if it really is 70' or 100' (thats not all usable light though) its still ridiculously short for the cost compared to IR. Then again I used Extreme IR for 10 years so I could be spoiled, but then explain the much better night image with a dusk to dawn with less actual light glare? You could be right, anyway Im not spending $1000 on an MP camera and $700 on the raytec and another $1000 or so on the network infrastructure and nvr etc to find out when we dont need an MP camera for that application and I know what does actually work for alot less. I still lean towards what Raytec themselves say which is the White LED distances is much less than IR (it shows this in the specs for both), plus when the camera switches to BW and the IR cut is removed which is in the case of IR it will no doubt do a much better job anyway as it is then much more sensitive for the areas where otherwise darker areas might exist with color and white light. from my other thread on the raytec white light install: "at 75% power approx and barely covering 3/4 the width of a 3mm fov and around 70' or so distance with what seems is just really dim light to the cameras (2 different types) .. the first thing the client said was GOD THATS BRIGHT, CAN YOU TURN IT DOWN??!"

Need help on a big project!

your right but its not hard to find the true maker speco and jet is Huviron Honeywell uk is CNB they have taken alot of cameras out of there range am lucky in that i can buy direct from both huviron and CNB. and both will remove any sales from uk on ebay. so no price war. we do get the odd company from usa but selling NTSC in a pal location makes no sence but warrant is good 3 years on 1 5 on the other. i would not like to be spending my profits on a camera that has only just gone out or warranty and fail after 13 months Another plus to a branded product is we know which one to stay clear of

In the typical outdoor scenario our camera DOES replace a burglar alarm. That's how it works, we've got a slew of video central station partners building profitable businesses around getting valid events, and screening out all the nuisance alarms and garbage you get from outdoor beams and motions that make it impossible for those technologies to be a reliable replacement. I dont agree. I agree it has a place, but its not a replacement - BTW there is more to an alarm than just Beams and Motions. Not even the camera/system manufacturer would be so bold to say it replaces a good burglar alarm system. Its similar to saying a door contact replaces a lock.

Need help on a big project!

But who IS a manufacturer these days? Vitek? Nope. Speco? Nope. Pelco? Hardly. Honeywell? Barely. Anyone can buy a camera from someone that made it, then stick their name on it. And the whole warranty and support thing I dont buy .. literally .. you have to be in the same country as the so called "Manufacturer" to get the kind of warranties you are talking about. The only warranty I want is from the person I bought it from, that it works when I plug it in .. later on if it fails then its my problem, like power issues or lightning. I buy branded though, but not because of any warranty in the US or UK, I buy branded because we know what that camera is and what it can do as it has a name and model number and others have used it - eg. someone has a no name camera, how can I tell someone else go buy the "no name camera" ...

CCTV doesnt replace a burglar alarm, plus beams are not expensive, alarm systems are peanuts compared to CCTV.

    HDCCTV is the new standard

I see a KT&C TDN IR Bullet HDCCTV selling in the US now .. its about 2x the cost of their non HDCCTV one. now if we could just afford the DVRs and find other cameras .. a TDN IR bullet wont work for every location.

    IR Illuminators

IMO They are a total waste of money, definitely NOT a lot of light and I used 2 models. The light they emit is hardly useful for CCTV cameras and yet its so bright on the eyes its painful, better off using Infrared, a Dusk to dawn or motion lighting. What spectrum of visible light is not usable by CCTV cameras? I'm curious what camera(s) you tested with, my results with the Raytec units have been similar to Thewireguys', they've worked well. CNB monalisa's. Raytec's support materials do mention that their White light is nothing near as good as IR. $700 and it barely pushes beyond 50' // got to be kidding me. I was using Extreme CCTV IR for a decade at a lot less $$ and it worked 10 times better.

Roy I think you have got defective units because the the units that I have more then enough light for the 2MP camera I was using. Not defective, just a waste of money for a driveway or carpark.

    Some IR questions...

Can you just use a BW camera? Thats all I use in the clubs here, alway dark, but not too dark for BW. The mini BW bullets from KT&C are cheap and being black they are basically unnoticeable.

Yeah they will hold up once they are sealed, bullets and other similar cameras. Domes I found dont though without extra caulking but thats because the back of them are typically somewhat exposed. I have bullet cameras out on locations (and here at my own place) exposed direct to 100% heavy tropical rain for years now, even hurricanes. Not every camera is made alike though. And in many cases what can happen with bullet cameras is if you tug on the wire going into the rear of it too much it can open up a path for water, thats the most common place for water to get inside a bullet camera, and why whenever I install one outside now (unless its under an eave) I caulk around that hole (unless its cable pass through a mount then its normally okay). I open and gut most bullet cameras I have come into contact with, and putting it back together one can normally see if there is a weak point.
