Yeah I would say HDD is the most common failure, along with Power Supplies/fuses.
-
I think you need to elaborate on this incorrect statement.

Ive done alot of PC repair work for homes over the years and Ive had to replace many routers. I myself have gone through 3 routers in the past 3 years or so alone. Most dont have switches though. Then again Ive had some routers last 10 years without a major glitch. But it IS an additional point of failure.

Yeah cause if they want it to become a standard they need to provide access to 16-ch DVRs for under $1000 and Cameras for under $200.
-
Do 16 channel HD DVRs exist yet? not hybrid, all channels HD.

ALL, note ALL cameras can get condensation, not just IR cameras, there is not one single brand ive tested or used that didnt get it at one time or another. One thing I noticed is cameras coming in brand new from the Northern US (Cold climate). Once they get here sometimes it requires a full dry out time, here in the tropical heat thats at least 2 hours, or overnight in the garage. This means opening it up ofcourse, there is NO OTHER WAY. So dont blame the make or model, Ive had it happen to bullets AND domes, from dead cheap to mega expensive, and other form of cameras like the $1500 Extreme CCTV EX82s. Ive also had alot that it never happened too, again, from $20 cameras and up. Someones it only takes opening a camera for a minute to adjust it and a rain drop getting in ... been there DONE IT. You can stick in all the desicant packs in the world but it would be best to dry it out and seal it back again good (many actually come with the packs already). Additionally sometimes if it is exposed to direct HEAVY rain, especially with Domes but I have a bullet that got hit hard by rain also (missing the sun shield) then that can happen that way as well (I had to caulk up the area that was exposed).

me tree! even when i call the cesspit pumping company, im oh so good at that .. at calling them

Neither is a standard just yet, they both have to come down in price first. The standard is still a simple cheap cctv camera with a cheap DVR, everything else is a luxury.

I think I just broke my big toe, WHILE SITTING DOWN USING THE PHONE!! The pain is intense, I cant move it at all. I was on a long phone call, when I got up my toe started to hurt ALOT. I mean I didnt even notice stubbing it ... guess it means more $$ to the doctor tomorrow .. the throbbing pain is crazy, and trying to stand up or walk is almost unbearable .. Anyway enough details, this ever happen to anyone else? BTW I walk barefoot alot and this is a first!

Lots of clients here dont connect their DVRs to the internet, normally due to them not having access or not wanting to. 10 years ago I was watching DVRs remotely, but I recall before DVRs came with LAN and broadband was still new or not as common, I used a device from Kalatel for the phone line (SVME8), that was "interesting"!

And why exactly would that be a problem? Please notice the title of this sub forum.

HD cameras' time delay comparing to Analog camera?
rory replied to Sooki Choi's topic in General Digital Discussion
Customer walks away and buys a system that doesnt do that then again ... that delay is like equivelant on the eyes to 22-27fps end result. Doubt anyone will notice the difference at all. -
You're on a forum whose sole purpose is to give out free tech support and system design !!

I would imagine so, with the light right in front of it in such a small area
-
What about night though? Yes the CNB WDR are not that great anyway, best to stick to the Monalisas in the CNB range, and even those are just so so .. though they have good low light as long as they switch to BW (another issue).
-
whichever one is latency free and can see at night
-
Going by the geo doc it says 3.10 will work for 7.04-8.4?
-
Just a FYI, Q-See does not compare to either TVT or Dahua. Q-See buys DVRs from those manufacturers and sticks its name on it
-
Anyone thats used to no Latency for the past decade or so?
-
How is the Network Software, Desktop or other. How is the Local Setup ease of use stuff like that?
-
You mention it had Version 5.2 Main System installed previously? If thats the case then its likely a very old card, like version 1.01-1.07 According to Geo's hardware software compatibility chart (download here) that card will only work for up to Main System Version 6.05. You would need a version 3.1 or higher card to work with 8.4 8.4 is not worth upgrading to IMO, it requires at least a quad core CPU and its missing the Geo MPEG4 codecs, only h.264 now, which adds to the higher CPU usage. Highest I would go is 8.33 at this time. In fact if you dont need all the mobile stuff 8.12 would suffice, it was Geo's best release as far as Im concerned, worked great with slower CPUs also. Remember newer is not always better.

Yey coax .. my fav The Intersil Techwell SLOCâ„¢ (Security Link over Coax) solution is designed to simultaneously transmit analog CVBS video and digital IP video over a single coaxial cable. Surveillance system manufacturers can now architect an effective hybrid surveillance system that supports latency-free analog CCTV functions as well as networked IP surveillance functions. -Enable digital IP camera functionality on existing coaxial wiring infrastructure with no disruption of existing CCTV services -Embedded analog CVBS video enables latency-free live viewing and controlling of digital IP cameras -No need for new wiring or cable modifications providing significant cost and resource savings http://www.intersil.com/video/sloc.asp

RG9, the whole system is cheaper in the long run and its stronger cable. Stronger cable? What exactly are you doing with your security camera cabling down in the Bahamas? I use it to swing from tree to tree, Im the Caribbean tarzan.

Q-See QT428 8CH DVR consumer review (with pictures)
rory replied to Toaster's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Yeah I wish they would fix this, I originally setup the DVRs locally or preset them, but adjusting the motion masking would be so much easier If I can do it remotely as I go back online anyway and adjust the scheduling and encoding sometimes. There is a new firmware out which is 2.608, but I havent got my hands on it yet. I wonder if they address this issue in that version, they claim that firmware will add in the fast play all cameras feature which is not available in previous versions (eg. 2.606) and which has been the biggest complaint from clients. -
He had a valid point, although its nothing to do with being afraid of IP as many that use DVRs use the Internet Protocol every second of the day. while the IP video guys are streaming 2 or 3 IP cameras someone may be streaming 128 non IP cameras from various DVRs, however it is being realistic, the network is another fail point in addition to everything else.
