Whats the PC specs? Are the card & drivers legit?
-
Most WDR dont even work as advertised, and in your case a good day night seems like what is really needed.
-
Just cat tails aren't they? Why would they need to be GV specific? All you'd need to do would be to make sure they're either DSUB or DVI surely? Nope tried other pigtails from other DVRs on Geo and on another DVR card another time, didnt work. I guess they wire them up differently inside. With Geo even tried to extend the pigtails one time with a VGA cable and that didnt work - however did that to a linux stand alone DVR which came with pigtails and that one did work.

No problem, glad it works -
He wanted to know how I was able to catch six criminals in a two year span. It's a very good question, but most people are not interested in knowing the answer. Most homeowners just want some cameras that will record the theft. The installers make money on the installation, the burglars make money on the sale of stolen property, and the homeowners get to post a video of the theft on YouTube. Everyone is happy. Best, Christopher True I hear you, thats why they hire professionals like us, we put away dozens a year.

Im tired of all the crappy single ccd day night cameras flooding the market now, extreme no longer sells or makes the dual ccd ex82, so looking to do something similar but with a color only and BW only camera .. any ideas? Looking for something small. Im thinking of some kind of photocell controlled type of mini video switcher. On the same topic, if you have tested and sample images or video from other brands of dual ccd cameras please post them.. (not IP cameras though). thanks.

Either its 2nd hand and they didnt send you the cables, you need to get them to send you the one for that card and for channel 1-8 or buy it separately but it must be for that Geovision card (not from another DVR card), without that its useless. OR, its a clone or stolen. Geovision doesnt warranty any cards purchased over Ebay by the way, pretty much 99.99% of Geo cards on Ebay are illegal copies.

one is for an 8 channel card, the other for the 16 channel card, they come default even if it doesnt have all the chips on the cards. As for it not working, did you buy it from a legit dealer? Are you saying you dont have the 1-8 channel but do have the 9-16 channel cable? Did you buy an 8 or 16 channel card? Either way it should have the 1-8 channel pigtail.

Best camera you will ever use for the money..........

cause its a subtle way for them to get extra search engine exposure to the links in their signature. Admin has to work on that by the way -
If the DVR has a browser based app using an ActiveX for example you can place that on your website and go to that page to access it instead of going to the DVRs IP. You would still need to put the DVR's IP or DDNS and user and password in that page's HTML on your website, or enter it manually each time. eg. http://www.bahamassecurity.com/webcam/

Unless its specific to PSS for the Mac there is no email feature in PSS. Check the settings on the DVR, you should remove the email address and uncheck the enable box under Network, Email, to disable it sending email alerts. Check Advanced, abnormality for anything there that is sending email also.

Here HDDs are at least 2 times the price, but even the price from the manufacturer's or distributors of installed hard drives are about that in the US - remember not every drive works properly with every DVR (could be as small an error as the occasional jump in the recordings) so to cut back on technical support they like to suggest the ones they have tested with it. Most of the cheap DVRs dont seem to mind too much though, or DVRs recording in low frame rates, but if one is buying the DVR with a hard drive installed already its still normally a big difference in price, sometimes double, from a 500 to a 1000 gb. BTW some drives are cheap for another reason, they are slower than the others, eg. the green drives, 7200rpm or not.

In any event, Geo 1480 with 10 cameras, D1, Mpeg4, 1TB drive, Max 15fps record per ch, approx 5 days, and thats only 50% continuous and 50% motion - but its all high quality color which makes the image size larger. See the problem is when you go over 7ps per channel .. it really starts to eat up that HDD space. Also Its best not to use H.264 if you have the choice, the difference in recorded quality is like night and day, but eats up more space. Set all the cameras to BW and will get maybe 5 times the recording length.

Just to verify, Retail or dealer price? Everything I see online is dealer price at under $1000.
-
The first one you listed isnt a Sony camera, more likely the rest aren't either? Actually its really overpriced for what is essentially considered a basic color IR camera. Anyway, could be bad cameras, but also check the power to each one, make sure its getting enough power, and you can also try another thing, turn the contrast down on the monitor you are using to check them with, if its the same monitor thats connected to the DVR then that might be the problem, high contrast on certain monitors will cause alot of noise otherwise not seen on other monitors.
-
Lets see a daytime image, cant really tell from that small one above. If you connected the camera direct to a monitor and its the same then its not a DVR issue. Whats the specs or model of the camera?
-
Best and cheap DVRs dont really go hand in and though, where most have a max 2TB drive ($250-350) capacity anyway but while most clients can only afford a 500GB HDD ($100-150) .. gotta do what you can to get that extra recording length. Id rather have recording of the trees blowing than miss that extra week of recording because I had it on continuous. In most cases when you do continuous record on 8-16 channels one is lucky to get 1-2 days out of even a 1TB drive, at least if the resolution is set to 640+ and say 15fps each channel (Eg. Geovision)
-
BTW one shouldn't be using a video system as an alarm system to begin with, therefore video motion detection should not be seen as false alarming or whatever, it is not geared towards that. Bottom line if choosing between video motion or continuous the motion gives you alot longer recording, which makes a difference to some people. Ofcourse if the night time image is going to be too dark or "grainy" as one put it then just use continuous for night time, but I would suggest doing it properly and adding more light.
-
And another even more important highly secretive (it seems) equation: PIR motion false alarm >> BEAM false alarm BTW why was he asking you how you could write?
-
PIR motion detectors outside = false alarms too. Better off with beams. Regarding motion recording on the DVR, even with the false alarms from shade, noise etc, if masked out somewhat it can still give you much longer recording time than just continuous record.

Like 5 in the same computer/dvr? Personally Ive never had a hard drive die on me other than the only time I ever ran my PC without a voltage regulator/line conditioner, that was over 10 years ago. More recently an old one I put in died, but it was already kicking the bucket when I got it (free). Make sure you are using a Voltage Regulator/Line Conditioner, or expect frequent failures. Excessive heat also kills drives.

Spray some bug spray around the camera. You may have to respray anytime it rains heavy though. The food stores here are nasty and when I did alarms we had to do this with the Motion detectors to help prevent the ****roaches and spiders from setting them off all the time. Literally ****roaches would make homes inside of them without spraying it with some baygon
