My coleague lives just behind the house that this happpened at, same little suposedly crime free area, as everyone has shotguns, and most criminals know it. Ofcourse guns are illegal here in this country, and law sais if you do have alicence for hunting rifle (only legal for pigion shooting), you can only shoot a person if they are inside your house in self defence, these guys gunned down the rapist in the middle of the street!

Though he was lunging at them, and bit off the maids finger who he was raping, and some people say one of the 2 raposts had a gun, never found though! Will wait to see what happens. Law here is totally different from the US. If you even point a gun at someone in the street, even in self defence, thats 10 years in prison, plus 6 months for every bullet in the gun!

We're putting up cameras on his street, and hoping to get the job to put them up all around the area, which is about 1 mile by 1/2mile, 1 main road that circles around and has like 8 side streets. Should be intereststing if we do the job.

  2. Alan do you know who makes that one listed in thie link you posted? Is it Appro? My distributor in florida said they have a 4 camera Appro DVR for abou that same price, and same fucntions, but havent been able to get any specs on it yet.

    Thanks

A VDR is just another name for a single channel DVR. It probably wouldn't suit your purpose. You really shouldn't use a computer for dual purpose because video recording takes up huge amounts of hard drive space and it gets messed up when you start trying to use it for other things. I would suggest something much simpler and less expensive for what you seem to want.

    http://www.supercircuits.com/STORE/prodinfo.asp?number=DVQ1-120&variation=&aitem=14&mitem=26

This will record 4 cameras, b/w or color. You won't need a computer. It won't network but you said that wasn't a problem. You will need a color monitor or a color TV with video input to watch it. It is very easy to use and has a built in scheduler to turn it off during certain periods of the day when you wouldn't need to record. It can also record audio.

For your other cameras, if you have enough light I suggest color. Color cameras these days have plenty of resolution so you will get as good a picture as b/w. B/W main advantage is low light ability. Price isn't much different.

  3. Stay away from Elbex. First they are not cheap. You would gasp at the pricing they want. Second they have terrible factory support. Very arrogant about their products. No ability to return things. Nothing but trouble. They are local to me and I used to deal with them and I hated it everytime I was forced to buy something from them.

ok thanks, ill take your word for it.

  4. Thanks

I thought maybe Sony becasue they have the name, but ive seen Panasonic around alot, though I personally dont liek them.

I see they sell that Ganz Thermal camera in the US for like $8000!

    Ganz US prices

    http://www.spytown.com/search--by-part-number-computar-indoor-domes-with-intergrated-varifocal-lenses.html

    Give that man a cigar!!

To be honest Pano is small here so I was very surprised and I had honestly no idea Ganz was so big, we just had the head office from japan visit us so I found out only now, they are starting to frustrate us a little though because each country has own office and develop own products, so I have to wait for ages for products say designed in germany, like the thermal gear, can take months and to order something they want to sell you, then they may have to get it first, so can become very time consuming excersise.

BTW, I am going to clear a whole bunch of old stock after I do stock take, have some older Ganz cams that would be very cheap if anyone interested?

  5. Just got the Ganz, day nighter dome.... great product and price was good it has full CS guts and 360 degree gimble also has an option for data cable connection for cat5 transfer with booster and best of all has option ofr TV out port for a service monitor, means easily foccuse, was quite impressive under a very dark filter.. I would say best Day Night dome I have seen.

whats the model number? Ill look up the price for us over here.

They dont come weatherproof though I noticed, you have to add a weatherproof attachment, which was costing $125 US.

  6. anyone tried these cameras?? Specifically the PTZ unit, (model 2000). Looks interesting, espcially if its cheap.

They have a lot of easy to install cameras with built in lense, cant find pricing on the web though.

  7. Spot On Mr AV as usual..

One thing to mention though, you can purchase lenses for either 1/4 or 1/3" so make sure you purchse the lens that fits your CCD size... cheaper cameras may not have adjutments because the guts inside do the work, I am not really sure how, maybe AV can shed some light (pardon the punn), however my understanding is that the voltage adjustment makes for opening or closing of the Iris, you can still get a lot of video drive lenses but most are used to replace old ones as the DC is the new format.

Using the DC level can also be very usefull to get a correct back focus.

I think you will see that a lot of camera companies will shift to built in lenses as the popularity of easily installed cameras with say 2 to 10 mm lenses grows. I know that Ganz (2nd biggest camera seller in the world) has made a lot of these type of late for this reason, I even got one of their day/night dome cameras with built in 2 to 10mm lens and CS mount guts, nice peice of kit... anyone bar AV guess who is the only one that sells more than Ganz?

    Sony?? Pano??

  8. SKY is a satellite television service. "SKY DIGITAL" would be a digital satellite receiver. I'm guessing a "booster" is an amplifier designed to be fitted between a terrestrial television reception antenna and a television in order to amplify the signal.

true, but whats satalite tv got to do with cctv?

  9. whats a booster and what is sky?

I am having problems connecting all my devices together. These are my devices, could you help me how to connect them all together

    2 cctv's to a switcher

    A switcher to a monitor

    A video to a monitor.

A BNC Video lead from a switcher to a standard tv

    SKY DIGITAL

    VIDEO

    DVD PLAYER - SCART ONLY

BOOSTER that is connected to my sky rf out port.

How do i connect my camera's to the booster? could i do this through the video using a scart adaptor and phono adaptor and then connecting my booster to the video out.

    Help me

  10. Well, in the apartment, have it next door to you, that's what some of my customers are doing

I dont have a next door, I have en efficiency, then there is a garage (very dirty with gasoline etc) next to me. I can only think of maybe bolting the lock box to the wooden ceiling like in the corner of the room? What do you think? There is an Attic, but it gets very hot, in the 150+ range as its a wooden roof and its like 60 years old.

Thanks. I still need some answers on the other scenerios also, for notes.

i havent forgot about your DVR cards, are you stil lselling them or was those the ones you have issues with getting unlock keys for now? We are still in the middle of starting up this new business called it X-treme CCTV, just put up a full wall sign, cost $600, and doing car signs now, and then property signs, and some other advettising in news papers etc, plus doing flyers to send out to the alarm companies 1500+ clients this month, alot of work, plus updating my catalog (can download online from www.BahamasSecurity.com ) When we start making some money, we can then buy stock for Demo equipment, right now cash is tight so have to rely on the catalog!

  11. Hello - I came across this site on a Google search

I am a new mommy and am wanting to install a home surveillance system to monitor our nanny/babysitters. We currently have a covert wireless clock cam connected to a vcr that I'd like to replace.

Question: Is there a dvr card / software system that anyone would recommend?

I would like to purchase 2 more cameras (any suggestions?) - one with audio. It would only run for about 20 hours /week. I have a pentium4, 3GB, 800MHz HT.

How does installing a Geovision dvr card ($300) compare to something like the CCTVWholesaler's PC-Witness USB Plus ($550) ? Is there $250 difference in function, ease of use...???

Any input would be appreciated. (Sorry if this is too much of a novice question.)

if you keep the camera, you can buy something like a Kalatel VDR which is like a VCR but is digital so it is great quality, no tapes.

    http://www.spytown.com/vdr-40.html

No PC connection though, but stable as it gets.

Add a ATV Mux, 4 channel or 8/9 channel, color or BW depends what you need, and its good to go, they come with IR Remote controls.

If you cant devote your PC 100% to the card then you need something like this, or even a stand alone all in one DVR, but they cost more than this and give you PC Connection to view playback.

Ease of use, a stand alone machine, VDR & a mux, or all in one DVR/mux, will be simpler to use and more stable, but cost mroe than $300!

As for cameras, do you still want hidden? If so check these out:

    http://www.spytown.com/search--by-part-number-speco-technologies--covert-cameras.html

Question, do you want color or B/W? Do you need to view playback on your PC?

And like herminsh said, support is a must, any well known brand like Kalatel you can get support for anywhere in the US very easy, and even by email direct to their enginneers. If on of these Asian DVR cards go bad, you may be on your own, unless you mail them back to the manufacturer direct or a rep in the US, if you can find one.

  12. anyone seen any housings vandal proof, that will mount on a wall, but the camera can still look sideways (like to the left)?? In other words I dont want a traditional housing, and a bullet wont work, and I dont want to use rugged mini dome, I want something stronger, but everything I have seen looks straight ahead.

    Thanks

  13. I was really imrpessed with the NVT 1662R with NVT 211 TXs, at a location here I started servicing, no signalloss at all from what I could see visually, and no interference. THOUGH, reasone they called us was one camera (PTZ) was coming and going with video loss, we cleaned up the wire connections and it seems fine now.

Anyway, anyone else had experience with UTP wiring for cameras? I noticed they only used very thin twisted pair wire, and still got a great video picture, I guess its the amplified UTP transceiver hub that does all that work?

  14. Whats the best location for a lock box for a DVR/VDR/1 Ch DVR in the following different situations? Lets say they have a remote keypad, or are using the PC to conenct via the network.

1-Appartment with No closet, just open room (this is my accomondations!)

    2-Home/Condo.Appt with closets

    3-Business (retail) Drop Ceiling

    4-Office with Warehouse

Do we mount it to the ceiling with strong screws? Ideas?

    Input needed please, thanks )

  15. I have purchaced the folowing( DVR card , wireless IRcameras X2 model #ws-212as , )and can't seem to get them to work even if i bypass the receiver & computer and go directly into the TV on the AV channel any ideas or tricks i need to know or how goo is my set-up ?

if you have a meter, you can check the power isgood, at the powe board of the camera, and check that you have a video sginal, you can test this with a meter also, at the end of the cable where you are plugging it into the TV, 1volt.

  16. I thought you might find it funny to see. My guess is that the guy who owns American Water Distillers (found them on internet also) was overseas doing some buying and stumbled across this line and figured it would be an easy way to make money. I think he may be surprised to find that he has a lot of inventory that isn't going to sell. Joke will be on him. Watch for price drops soon on his web site.

we have AC companies and Plumbing companies here selling DVRs!! (PC Based)

  17. Here is an interesting approach to the CCTV market. Dome prices are retail so I would guess dealer is probably 20% or more below. Read the payment and policies. I wonder how many people would be willing to risk buying from them. Even at the lower prices it still represents somewhat of a risk.

"We do not accept returns or refunds. No Exceptions" - THEY DONT HAVE WARRANTY!!

"Your orders will be shipped out within 3-5 days after funds are cleared" - WOW!!!! THEY WILL WAIT FOR THE CASH, THEN SHIP IT!

.." the public (yes some of you reading this) are stupid " - THEY WOULD HAVE TO BE, TO FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!! )
