  1. I need to find a camera to connect to a projector (Barco PGWU-62L). It has HDMI and a CVBS inputs. I haven't seed a webcam with either of these outputs but I should be able to use a converter, right? I'm looking for recommendations. Thanks
  2. Customer has a Supercircuits DMR1N-2 and I want to upgrade. Do I need, or is it easier, to just stick with Supercircuits? Its a 16 channel-no great unit but easy on the wallet. Any recommendations?
  3. hi so your talking back office system (pos reporting PC) then the likes of BI will slow it down and also if it is used as admin pc its not good to have it as a security unit. how many cameras are you looking for ?? Thats why I want a NVR. probably 4 to start with growth to maybe 8 max-primarily in the kitchen and bar areas.
  4. The PC is a regular desktop PC that is used as an admin PC and for POS reporting. It will have no problem supporting any cctv software. There will be no cameras looking for people walking out on the checks.
  5. I am looking at NVR. I'm not sure where you got the idea that I'm not. In any event, ninja is correct in that she will have a PC; just not one to dedicate to surveillance.
  6. Buellwinkle, Your site is great.
  7. Ok, I looked at the Axis stuff. I need to get this out there: my budget is about $2000-$2500 total for this piece. My customer doesn't want to spend $5000-$10000 catching someone stealing $100 worth of food or alcohol. Given that, any options or should I just go with Foscam? Thanks
  8. Thanks. We don't want to buy a PC. I just want a box hanging somewhere on the network that can be accessed by the main Point of Sale PC if they need to configure, view or download something. We don't have room for another PC.

    Electrical contractor needs advice

Getting into the security business is more than just throwing equipment into a facility. There is a big liability issue at stake. Here in Maryland, insurance requirements changed shooting my premium uo to $10k per year. The reason was that customers were suing the installers when things didn't "work." People were even suing even though they admited to not arming or even unplugging it. The insurance basically covers legal costs. We got out of the business. I guess what I'm saying is make sure your license covers whatyou want to do and make sure your insurance does as well. Perhaps if you're a new company, you coud sub to an established company.

    Newbie from Maryland

Hi folks. I'm from Maryland and my company is primarily in interconnect cables (fiber, copper, coax) for carriers. I also design networks for small businesses (Cisco Partner) and provide all types of low voltage wiring. I used to provide and install security systems but minimum insurance premiums jumped to $10k so we bagged that. I got into IP cameras for the personal vacation homes of my clients. Primarily just the Foscam stuff because they're cheap, easy to set up, and easily available. I have an upcoming project for an existing customer to install a surveillance system, which brought me here. Thanks for helping.
  11. That's the Foscam product. I'm looking for something a little more comprehensive than that. Thanks though.
  12. I'm in Maryland. I'm open as to cameras and NVR. The only requirement I have (or want) is IP based and the NVR should be self contained. My customer doesn't have, nor does she want or have room for, a dedicated PC. The business is a restaurant.
  13. Hi folks. Newbie here. I need some schooling on NVRs. I'm pretty well versed in networking (I'm a Cisco and Linksys partner) and have installed some basic IP cameras in vacation homes. I have an upcoming project for a current customer that necessitates a recorder. I want to take advantage of IP and POE technology so I'm not real interested in DVRs. In my basic searches, I'm blown away by user licenses. Is that a racket or what? In any event, I don't have a problem purchasing the solution from a cctv installer as a package as I don't really understand the hardware/license arena and don't want to jump into the wrong platform. So, given that, tell me about NVRs and how one should go about the selection process. Thanks Ken
