3MP Hikvision vs. 1080P Swann/Lorex
JF1980 replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I had a Hik 1080p bullet that I updated to 5.0.0, and ran for a week or so with limited changes to the config pages. After leaving it off for a few days and re-connecting, it prompted me to download a new webcomponents.exe, which gave me a handful of changes to the config pages that definitely weren't there before. The only thing I can think of is that I hadn't restarted both the camera and the PC at the same time, though I can't recall if I powered down the camera, or just rebooted it. Here's a post with the US download location: viewtopic.php?p=217811#p217811 One good test of internal IR reflection is to take the camera out in an open space at night and point it straight up into the empty sky. If there's internal IR reflection, you'll see it on the image. If you don't see any, but you see some when it's mounted, you're getting IR reflection from the local environment. Thanks for that, I'll give the US FW a try later today. I didnt get around to testing the IR last night, hopefully today. -

I had another quick look at the camera and it appears the chinese text is the day of the week (in this case Thursday). From a quick look I couldn't see a way of setting the language (the language option in the top right appears to be for the GUI only, not the OSD). For now I just turned it off, leaving me with Time/Date/Camera Name, which are all in our alphabet. When I have more time I'll have another look and let you know if I figure out a way to set the language, so the day of week shows up in English. Although for my needs simply turning it off is sufficient. -

Hey, i see some chinese letters on the date, are you able to removle them ? I haven't really tried, but assume I can. This is the camera I had the problem with the IP address so have reset it to defaults several times. Its off right now (the POE switch is a little noisy), but will have another look at it after I've got through my work emails. So if you want any other snapshots let me know and I'll try my best. -

While I had the camera out I stuck it in a cupboard and took a snap so you could see if there was any IR leakage/etc. The reflection you see in the right hand side is from a jug, I moved rotated the camera to ensure it stuck with the jug and not in the same place on the picture. Obviously the objects are all very close, therefore out of focus. Sorry I cant do any better right now, Im sitting on my kitchen island and this cupboard is the only dark place within reach of the cables. -

Hmmmm, a little confused now. I opened the camera to check if there was a reset button. Didnt find anything, so I put it back together. Thought I'd have another look at the options in the GUI. Software version is still the same (V5.0.0 130412). Tried to change the resolution and IP address, and both worked Only a couple of this have changed: 1) I opened the camera and closed it 2) Its now the only device on the switch 3) Its been unplugged and off overnight I can't believe (2) has anything to do with it, since the switch is a Netgear GS724TP, easily capable of powering 6 cams. Infact they only appear to draw 2.8W according to the switch (without IR of course). I didnt see any reason (trigger switch, etc) which would mean (1) caused this change. So that leaves me with (3). Interestingly unlike the other cameras (and is camera yesterday) the max frame rate is now showing as 12.5. Has it possibly stored the EU firmware I was trying to upload yesterday, but only flashed it on boot is morning. Utterly confusing. Hopefully Melinda gets back to me soon with the stock Chinese firmware. If anyone could PM me link to the US firmware I'd greatly appreciate it. -

Unless I'm missing something they don't appear to have a physical reset button. -

Thanks for the advice. If you mean a physical reset button, then no, I hadn't spotted it. I only had a couple of hours last night to check they were in working order, so I could let the vendor know. I essentially plugged them all into the switch one by one, changed IP, res, checked video, then moved on. The last one is when I hit the snag. Tried the two reset options on the GUI, then went on wild goose chase for the firmware :/. Ill give the reset button a go and get back to you. Ill also try another PC, however since the first five were ok I didn't suspect the PC/Plugin. Thanks again for your help. -

I've tried both the reset options on the web GUI (full defaults, and defaults excl IP address). I haven't tried using DHCP, but playing around with a few options I noted I get parameter error if I try to change anything in the IP page. I also get it if I try to change the resolution to 3MP, but not if I change it to 720p. Nothing else on the video page seems to give me parameter error. Its very odd, as other options can be changed and the camera is responding fine in every other aspect. -

I've just got 6 of the DS-2CD2132 domes from Aliexpress and while setting the IPs have noticed one of them won't let me change the IP. It keeps saying "parameter error" every time I try to save the change. All the others worked fine and this dome works aswell, other then not letting me set the IP. Has anyone seen this behaviour before? I suspect a firmware reflash (they are all on V5.0.0) may fix the issue, but have only been able to find it on the EU portal, with which the camera reports "wrong language" when I try to flash it. I have emailed Melinda, but while I'm waiting I was hoping someone here may have some pointers . Thanks -
buy HIKVISION NVR and cam from china ALIEXPRESS
JF1980 replied to tim36's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I bought 6 DS-2CD2132-I domes from Melinda via AliExpress, everything arrived as promised, and her communication was prompt and helpful. The cameras arrived a couple of days ago, but I was on holiday so have only just had the chance to test them yesterday. All but one worked perfectly out of the box and I was very impressed with the PQ, SW and generally snappy response of the on board NVR SW. The one camera I have an issue with keeps saying 'parameter error' when I try and change the IP address, everything else seems to work (including video). I suspect I need to reflash the firmware so just emailed Melinda, as I can't find a copy on the HIKVision sight. DSD were competitive for the bullet, but approx $50/unit more expensive for the Dome. They also had a couple of weeks lead time, so I went with Melinda in the end. You may want to contact her about the shipping, as it seems they have some flexibility for larger orders, she dropped mine significantly. In terms of payment, I went through AliExpress, so was able to pay by credit card. If you go direct that's obviously not an option (Bank Transfer). -
Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I FTP to NAS and push to mobile App?
JF1980 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Can anyone confirm if the HIKVision DS-2CD2032-I or DS-2CD2132-I (stock HIKvision, not rebranded Costco offerings) support FTP to NAS and push to their mobile App? Not much info on their website and can only seem to find a spec sheet but no manual (although it is late here so perhaps I'm just being dense ). I was all set to up my budget and go with the ACTi E32 or E72. Only waiting on a decent review (is networkcameracritic buelwinkle from here?) of the dome to decide which to go for. But then I noticed the HIKVision cameras significantly cheaper. Given I'd be importing the ACTis from US anyway, I figure Im probably not going to benefit from any better support that ACTi may offer for authorised channel purchases. Which makes the HIKVision cameras extremely tempting (I need 6 cameras making it a big saving). Assuming they are Infact the same as the costco offering the sample videos look more then adequate for my needs. -

JF1980 replied to JF1980's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Has anyone seen any reviews for the DS-2CD2132-I, which is the dome version of the same camera? Its not much more and would make for a cleaner install, but I've read domes can be difficult to get right so I'm concerned about buying 6 without some independent images/reviews. -
Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I FTP to NAS and push to mobile App?
JF1980 replied to JF1980's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Given they've done the hard work of making the App and getting it past Apple, I'm surprised they haven't added push notifications. It is relatively easy in comparison. I still haven't received a response to my email :/ Given these are half the price of the ACTis I'm heavily leaning towards going with HIKVision and just living with email notifications. Hopefully they will implement push to App, but as we have several push email accounts on our devices anyway email will be sufficient if a little more fiddly. -

JF1980 replied to JF1980's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Thank you for the link. I browsed the rest of the repository and found some more manuals in the IP camera section. The latest being for firmware v3.0.1: http://www.hikvisioneurope.com/portal/index.php?dir=Technical%20Materials/01%20%20%20English%20Documentation/02%20%20%20Camera%20IP/02%20%20%20User%20Manual/V3.0.1/&file=Hikvision%20User%20Manual%20of%20Network%20Camera%20V3.0.1.pdf From that it appears you are correct that they support FTP, but do not support push to App. I've emailed them the same question yesterday just to be sure, but I'm guessing I'll receive the same answer. They do appear to support email on motion trigger, so I need to decide if that's sufficient (we have push email on our devices) or if push to App is important enough to pay double for each camera :/ -
Are there any budget IP cameras feasible for my requirements
JF1980 posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Hi, I'm new to the forum and like many of the non installers my interest in CCTV has been prompted by a break in I'll start by giving a little background so my requirements are a little clearer. My house is on a relatively busy road and 400m from the local police station (you can see it from the top of my drive way), 500m from a busy town centre. However, in the evenings the footfall/traffic falls off dramatically. Moreover, to the rear of my house there is a new building still being constructed and due to local geographic elevations I effectively only have the neighbours either side who are of any use when it comes to security (pair of eyes to spot a burglar). Recently my alarm called me with an intruder alert and I was home within 15 mins. I discovered someone had forced open the rear door but it appears they had been scared off by the alarm (there were a few items in the living area that were untouched so i'm confident they scarpered pretty quickly on hearing the alarm). While its reassuring the alarm did its job (coupled with the proximity of the local police station), its troubling the presence of bell boxes didn't deter them from trying. This has obviously led to alot of inconvenience (repairing door, visits by police, etc), so I'd like to minimise the chance of this happening in the future and heighten the chance of catching the culprits both for my benefit and that of their future targets. Having spent a few days researching options to this end, I feel my best bet is to install a CCTV system that will notify me via email (we have push email on our phones) or other mechanism of a movement event on my land. Given the proximity of the police station, this gives me a good chance of calling the police and having them catch/disturb the culprit before they can do much damage. By the time my alarm goes off some damage has already been done and it takes two sensors to be triggered before the police are called which means they've had quite a bit of time to examine my belongings. I was looking at DVR + 3 or 4 (covering 3 ingress points to my property, plus my car on the drive) cameras but then I came accross this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZMODO-4-CH-Network-Video-Recorder-Wireless-IP-Security-Camera-NVR-System-NO-HD-/330790437606?pt=UK_Gadgets&hash=item4d04a582e6 which got me thinking if perhaps I'd be better considering an IP based solution. However, I'm unsure of the quality/reliability of that system. Moreover, I don't require the wireless capability (both power and network cables are available close to camera mounting points), so I'm wondering if there are wired alternatives. Ultimately my requirements in order of importance are: 1) Good live image 2) Adequate recorded image so I can provide description to police when I call them 3) Email or other auto alert on trigger of motion detection 4) Motion detection, or I/O based trigger (so I can use an external PIR) which is reliable enough not to send me alerts constantly. Otherwise my family will become conditioned to ignoring them. 5) I'll be installing PIR triggered floodlighting front and back, plus theres a street lamp right outside my house. Therefore, I would hope low light performance wouldn't be a major issue. 6) Edge based recording would be OK to start with, provided the Cameras will ultimately work with an NVR should I decide to install one. I'm sure some of you will be rolling your eyes thinking not another one, just as I do when I'm asked the same question over and over in my own area of expertise None the less your input/advice/pointers are greatly appreciated. Even if its just a list of cameras I should look at. Thank you for taking the time to read my long post and any advice you can provide. -

HP micro server N40L. Ill just be recording to it. If I need to examine the recordings later ill just access them as I do any other files on it. This will work for me as I won't be regularly looking at past recordings, only if I discover damage to my property retrospectively or there's a specific incident. I don't plan to proactively monitor/examine CCTV recordings. -

JF1980 replied to JF1980's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I was considering using a NVR, but am now thinking I'd be better off spending my budget on the cameras and using my existing NAS. However, I won't be using them often for retrospective viewing (only if I notice some damage or intruder on my property) of videos or 24/7 monitoring. I mainly need them for real time alerts of an intruder on my property, for which ill likely use an App and push/email alerts. -

I can only assume they were referring to the: http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hdbw32003202-220.html Or http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/ipc-hfw3200s-218.html I'm guessing its the mini bullet though, as I can't see the dome dropping in at the sought of pricing we we discussing. Talking about ACTi that is the other alternative I'm considering. I noticed the D72 dome was down to $255 at some places. If the Dahuas don't appear closer to the $150 mark, ill have to consider that instead. -

I thought I should correct this post. KD had actually responded, but my POP3 had tagged their SMTP as a source of spam. Now I've corrected this I've noted they are (and have been) responding promptly. In any case they've suggested I wait a month as they will have some alternatives which will better suit my needs. I assume they mean the dahua 2mp mini bullet? -

I have noticed the following cameras: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Onvif-2-0-Megapixel-Network-Dome-camera-ip-h264-Support-POE-Ci-9821R/639795584.html Which support HW motion detection and could possibly use these with my NAS and PIR motion detection. But concerned its pot luck without any feedback from people that have used them. -

JF1980 replied to JF1980's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I run both internal IR and motion detect floodlights in some areas, and I get a lot of false alarms, mostly due to the cats (and the occasional possum or racoon) triggering the lights. I'll get a detect when the lights go on, and another when the lights go off. How much trouble this is depends on the software you use for recording. I've gotten good at spotting which ones are routine and which are something different. Another option is to increase the motion time it takes to trigger motion detect. If you go long enough for it to recover from the lights turning on and off, you'll get fewer alarms, but may miss shorter motion events. Whether you miss anything before the motion event will depend on how many pre-trigger frames you capture. False alarms due to actual motion (due to wildlife) I can live with. My neighbour has PIR triggered lights and they don't go off too often. So I doubt the false alerts will result in my family becoming conditioned to ignoring alerts. It's false detection due to artifacts picked up by the sensor in low light that really worries me, as that will likely be a regular occurrence. And something I can do little about (my neighbours and bank balance won't appreciate floodlights on 24/7). If the 3200s had I/O for external alarm triggers I'd go with them as I could go the PIR route if I got lots of false triggers with the on board detection. And while the delay in adjusting exposure wold be annoying, its not critical for my requirements.
