  1. We are all saying the same thing here. 1. if you have a running network and 2U of available space in a rack in a operational IT room at the customer location- install the PoE switch, network patch, then wire out to cams, then hang cams, then use PinPoint with WAP and laptop to aim/ focus. 2. If no network is available and no IT room exists - hang cams and aim/ focus with midspan POE injector and PinPoint module along with laptop. 3. Use 2-way radios and another tech. if you have one available and aim/ focus after the PoE switch and recorder are installed and powered up. ....we all understand these methods. I have never asked the end user to assist me with set up and never will - fine tuning later maybe. I have never dropped a laptop either, hopefully never will. You have all helped me here and I will apply this going forward. P.S. which cams have 2 jacks on them?
  2. We have had several jobs lately where the guys are finished cable pulling and camera mounting and the IT room is not finished i.e no racking, no Sheetrock, no electrical yet. My goal is to come back and install the NVR and load server/ client software and not have to pull another man to come down and re- aim and focus. Otherwise - we talked about this earlier, I would just put the switch in first and be done with all this. But that doesn't altogether solve viewing at the cam by itself. I know it's alot of talking and not alot of working, but the idea here is to come up with a system and implement it - no matter which type it is. May very well be just to order the switch and NVR together with a monitor and put them on a cart until IT is ready. That's roughly $16,000 sitting on a $100 cart in an unsecured job site - I don't like that idea either. My goal here was to see if I could fix this issue with equipment or does it need to be fixed by scheduling us later on the install.
  3. Just found this. What about this at the head end during setup? http://www.amazon.com/WS-POE-8-48v60w-passive-Ethernet-Injector-cameras/dp/B0086SQDMM/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360918343&sr=1-11&keywords=ip+camera+poe
  4. I had these 2 recommended to me also. Problem here is you have to A: have the PoE switch already running and B: a network has to be available. If it is an existing installation and we are adding to it, this would all be great. The issue is, how do we/ everyone else get around it if theres no switch or network available at the time of install? This is where the midspan injector comes into play I think. http://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC-TL-PoE150S-PoE-Injector/dp/B003CFATQU/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360917457&sr=1-3&keywords=usb+powered+PoE http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WR702N-Wireless-Repeater-150Mpbs/dp/B007PTCFFW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1360914753&sr=8-4&keywords=WL-330N http://www.amazon.com/SlimTalk-External-Micro-USB-Flashlight-Smartphones/dp/B0054U6CEE/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1360916578&sr=1-13&keywords=usb+battery+pack
  5. I think it might just be cheaper / easier in the long run just to get the Pinpoint and a single port midspan PoE injector. All around > $100. use a 25' patch cable to reach the cam from the ground and do the rest from a cart. All the parts are correct, just not holding them all up on a ladder.
  6. So, your talking about using the Pinpoint in-line with the cam and the PoE switch, then connecting the WAP to to Pionpoint where you normally would plug in the laptop? That means it (WAP) needs to be powered at the cam also. But with that, mine has a 12vdc power cube/ supply
  7. Using a WAP....like any WAP? I have old Linksys stuff (WRT54G) laying around I could re use. Are they " PoE" on the ports? Ive never looked into it. Im with ya on the laptop, netbook, tablet going wireless, but the cam still needs to be powered.

It did finally show up. Thanks for the feedback.
  11. Triplett 8050 W35 color test monitor. Has anyone used this or have anything to report on it? I just baught one and haven't used it yet - still charging. The posters here seem to be all over the map on it. Screen to small to be useful, no color generator, no test leads. But, very small and light, clear video, great batt. life, good price point. Any input?
  12. Update : now after a week of use by a Tech. in the field, here is what he had to say : 1. case is too small to keep all of the necessary cords/ adapters/ tools in for all the different cameras with the charger in the case. Not a major deal though, just streamlined what he "needed" to carry. 2.Screen size is fine (small, but fine) and the clarity is good. Glare is the same as any other monitor. 3. Batt. life is as stated, 4-5 hours. Overall, good purchase for the price. We also are trying this " 7inch LCD" for $50.00 with battery and A/V adapters that alot of others have recommended. I posted this reply to give a factual, accurate review of this test monitor in leu of all that was said here. Thank you to those that gave honest help.
  13. I think that makes the most sense. The last one I layed out, the Server room wasn't even finalized on the print, so we didn't have the head end until after the wire runs were done and the cams were up. Sort of backwards I know. Live and learn. I might buy a switch and keep it on hand because of this. That way I could temp. it until the rack is in - then swap out when the data guys come up to speed.
  14. I've never carried or sold Q-See, don't know anything about them. Are they one of the " Edge Technology" vendors?. Intersting to hear that they would challenge you.
  15. I think i'm going to make a change on my end. I should order the PoE switch earlier in the job and then have it up and runnning at the time of devicing. Seems it would be just as effective and no where near the cost. Like I said awhile back here, we are somewhat new to IP and are trying to standardize a procedure on install and commisioning. We'll figure out a system that works.
  16. That is exactly what I am talking about - nice score Abzs ! Now, just one problem , PN # 195758 DS1F01 - PORTABLE CAMERA FOCUS TOOL $1767.55 Exactly what I want, exactly what I won't pay. That stinks. I'll keep looking around.
  17. This is a "cool" thread - haha. It's good to here from all over what cameras will do when pushed to the edge of the specs. I have found more problems with wiring/ NVTs/ mounts, etc. than with the cameras themselves. We do a cold storage facility here and we have many Panasonic analog domes in the freezer area. Roughly 0 deg F ( whatever FDA temp. is ) and they have heaters - been installed for 3-4 years now and not one failure. Went out to refocus once but nothing else.
  18. I think your right. Ill make some calls in the morning and see what is local here first. Thanks for all the help. I think I have enough now to go on. I appreciate it.
  19. OK, forgive me. When I said Point Source I meant PinPoint. Both Veracity. Difference being PointSource provides it's own power and PinPoint needs to be powered. I miss spoke. Same idea though?

    UCP - Signature help

I'll get there. You all are good people, should be easy.
  21. I use PoE injectors on other longer stuff. I suppose I could use one for this with a cord. Issue being if no IP info or switch locations are identified at the time of install, I/ we have to work around it. SO, if I look at this correctly, a IFS PoE injector and the PointSource at the camera with a laptop should skin the cat. No? Side note....this is alot of screwing around to provide power. Can't a guy find the PoE standard and make a RJ45 adapter that provides power on the correct pair? - I know, alot of variables...just seems like it should be that easy.

  24. OK. not to get into / go down the trail of camera specifics........I generally do my own camera work - no 2nd guy usually. I have done the remote viewing and used my phone before to get it done - but you don't always have a good signal/ DL speed. So, on the $60.00 deal I would be willing to give it a try. I assume it needs to be already powered by PoE for it to work? Or can it pull power from the laptop? On the customer approval/ signature note : I have them verify all shots and labels prior to final signature. I standardize it on the jobs I run and try to encourage others in the shop to make it a common practice. It eliminates confusion later and justifies trip charges on relocating or re aiming cams. Most of the time the end user is appreciative that you take the time to be thorough.
