Hey kb32, IR cameras are okay. The biggest issue i find across the board of the brands i've installed is that they pretty much throw out a ring of IR light and will concentrate on the centre of the view. You can by IR illuminators which provide a broader spectrum of IR and aren't terribly expensive. Day/Night cameras may also provide a solution for you. But remember light changes throughout the day and night with reflections and then headlights etc. What looks good in the moment may look a out of focus at another time of day. IR cameras are best to focus at dusk or lower light levels i find. Regards mate

G'day Ross, I'm a newby too. Wasn't exactly what i was chasing but been able to read some stuff and learn a tad. Even dished out a bit of what i know. Seems like a pretty helpful forum mate. I'll be using it again. It's a pretty wide range of experience with cctv. Booming field and i have a bit of experience but never foolish enough to think i know it all. It progresses so quick but who wants to stand still?

Have to agree with the other boys sorry. I'd invest in an awesome car cover. Sure it's a pain in the butt. It may be cheaper in the long run though. Can be extremely hard to capture LPs in varous conditions during both the day and night. Not to mention expensive. I've done this a couple of times with the help of an IT contractor. Basically he points the dvr to a public network address (port forwarding). Hit the IP address in your browser and you limit the users from the dvr with user log-ins. Bandwith is a major limitation with video streams and the more people trying to access that connection will have an impact definately. Depending on the DVR whether you can view just live or playback. Playback can be a lot more network heavy. Also most DVR manufacturers are coming out with iphone / android apps (playback not a common feature just yet but it will be). Hope that helps a bit Cheers

I think you've got the right mindset and a heck of a work ethic that surely someone would give you a chance to get a foot in. We're screaming to employ someone like you in Aus. Sounds Like u know a bit about cctv. Google boschsecurity in your region and there's online training regarding everything from cameras, network principles, dvrs. You can get certificates for your training and it will actually help with an understanding of how cctv works. From cameras, networking, dvrs, storage etc. Just be willing to run cables and fit off cameras for a bit. I reckon it's a good idea but 5 years is pretty tough. Enjoy the experience. Hope that helps.
