Thanks, I'll take a look

I have one of these and I can run Web Service quite happily over the LAN, but as soon as I try to access it remotely it doesn't work. (I have forwarded the appropriate port etc). Do other people have this working ? One other problem as well with the LAN based Web Service is that I can't play back recordings. The on screen options do not match what the user manual says and there is no playback option.

Actually I'm not. As it happens, since I posted the original message I have now got it half working. I can get the Web Service login dialogue, but when I log in I get the message "Main Connect Fail". I have forwarded the HTTP and RTSP ports, but do I need to also forward either the TCP or UDP port ? The manual has nothing to say on the matter. -
What is difference between a Dahua NVR3204 and 3208
tdenson posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have a Dahua NVR3208 and am very pleased with it and intend to buy a couple more. However, I am struggling to understand the difference between the different models. Although I only need 4 channels I am happy to pay the extra for the 3208 if I get some additional benefit e.g. performance. Looking at the spec on the Dahua website - http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr3208-8p3216-8p-339.html It seems that the only difference is the number of panes on the display and number of alarm connections. Is this correct, and if I only want 4 channels there is no benefit at all in using the 3208 ? -

You are paying a license to use 8 cameras instead of 4 cameras. Does it cost them more? No. Does it cost Microsoft more if I install just one copy of Windows on 3 different computers? No. Do I do it? No, I have a license on each computer, the same way that you need a license for each camera you are going to use. However, it would be a lot more transparent if Dahua sold a single model of NVR and charged separately for the software so it was clear what you were paying for - and also allowed one to buy an NVR3204 and upgrade it to a 3208 by buying a firmware license upgrade. -

I fully knew what the difference was between a 3204 and a 3204P (PoE) but I was just a bit sloppy with my terminology. I don't know why this is weird. I thought it was weird that Tomcctv explained to you the difference between the 3204 and 3204P since the you didn't even ask what the difference was. Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. -
Dahua NVR 3208 recording rate
tdenson replied to Anderino's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Well I realise that is the likely reason, but I just wanted to know perchance whether he thought there was an advantage to using a 3208 if he only had 4 cameras. Um, I'm gonna take another wild guess. The advantage of using the 3208 rather than the 3204 is so he can add more cameras in the future??????????? No need to be sarcastic. He said in his OP "I am looking at getting this NVR with 4 x 2mp cameras." and then asked a question about performance which was directly linked to the number of cameras he planned. He didn't ask what would happen if he added more. I agreed with you that it was likely this was the reason but not certain. I know myself when I first looked at this device I assumed the 3208 had more performance than the 3204 (because there was nothing physically stopping one attaching more than 4 cameras). I subsequently was informed that the difference in price was nothing more than a licensing charge. I was actually only trying to be helpful from my own research. -

The manual is on the CD, but if for some reason you haven't got it, PM me with an email address and I will send it you. It's a bit frustrating because it documents a whole load of different NVRs and you have to sift through for the bits relevant to the 32XX models -

I have the 3208, and really like it but have only connected two cameras so far. Performance is good with two. Out of curiosity, why are you using the 3208 if you only want 4 cameras - why not the 3204 ? I ask because I am looking at buying a second unit but don't need more than 4 cameras and am trying to decide which one to get. -

I can't seem to get MD to work at all on this device. Is anyone else here using one and can confirm that it actually does do what the manual says wrt MD ? I don't even need a fix, I just want to know it can be done. I will then chase up Dahua support. -

Perhaps I confused you by not being specific about the suffix P. Re the following Dahua link - http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/nvr320432083216-p-190.html My question remains the same - is the only significant difference between the 3204P and the 3208P in the firmware i.e. is there any advantage at all in specifying the 3208P and only connecting 4 cameras ? -

Yes, I do know that. However, the implication in your reply is that the only difference between the two models is firmware - is this the case, because this was really my question ? If this is the case I don't understand the difference in hardware cost. -

AVTech AVH312 and Huacam cameras
tdenson posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have an AVTech AVH312 NVR and I have bought some Huacam cameras from Amazon. I can not get them to play together. I naively thought that Onvif was Onvif was Onvif, but apparently it's not so. Can anyone here by any chance tell me if they have such a combination working. Assuming it's just incompatibility, which do I send back and start over with - the NVR or the cameras ? -
I'm in the UK and this Swann product has just come on the market over here. I've installed a couple of systems using their TruBlu D1 boxes and I really like their products, but have never had any experience with SDI. Anyone have any thoughts please

I have a Swann DVR8-4000 DVR and it is connected to a Swann 750-Pro PTZ dome camera. The standalone PTZ box (which has a separate IR remote to control it) always works. When I connect to the DVR it works sometimes, but I am convinced it's not just a cable issue - it suddenly stops working when I'm not touching it and then only starts again after fiddling around powering things off and on and unplugging and replugging the PTZ connector. I wonder whether it may be to do with terminating resistors and have rung Swann but their UK TS leaves a little to be desired ("what's a terminating resistor"). I cannot see any switch on the camera and am waiting for their level one support to contact their level 2 support in Australia, but not holding my breath. Is there anyone on here who is an expert on Swann stuff ? Also, I want to multidrop the PTZ so I can use both the DVR and the remote controller, I assume that would also have an effect on termination.

PTZ problems with Swann equipment
tdenson replied to tdenson's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I was confused as to why they supplied a spare circuit board, but then I decided that because it is so unintuitive getting it out of the camera housing to thread the cable that there must be loads of people who destroy it in the process - so instead of doing the easy thing and documenting it properly they use a sledgehammer approach ! -

multi drop ? This just refers to wiring them in parallel
