  1. Hi gang. I am trying to put together a small system for either motion or Zoneminder under linux. Haven't tried either yet but plan to try both. I will initially have 2-4 USB cameras (depending on how many USB controllers my MB has and how well I can get them to perform) and 1-2 IP cameras. I would like to eventually expand the system to 12+ IP cameras. I'm wondering about CPU cores vs CPU speed vs L2 cache. I have several older Socket 775 systems and a handful of dual-core CPUs from 1.6GHz to 3.2Ghz. I am also looking at midrange (2Ghz) quad-cores. 2/4/6MB L2 cache, or maybe a Xeon with 8MB. What's more important for either/or Motion/ZM? Speed, # of cores, cache, etc? I wouldn't think that all of the cameras would be recording at once, but since this will be a security system, assuming someone enters the building, theoretically several cameras could be seeing motion at once. Comments appreciated.
