I see that when my wife is doing the laundry. It's the exhaust from the dryer vent. -
Boxed systems- really ready for prime time?
90beater replied to shockwave199's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Shockwave in a way I agree. IP camera systems are moving even faster than computers are today. What you buy today is obsolete tomorrow. The standards seem to be working toward being universal but haven’t gotten there yet. You have to decide when is the right time to jump in and hope you made the right decision. I upgraded a few months ago when the Dahua systems seemed to be the way to go for the DYI installer. It is amazing how many changes have taken place since. I will say though that what I have setup is light years ahead of the old analog 8 channel DVR system I had before. I bought a 16 channel Dahua NVR and have 6 - 1.3mp cameras recording full time. With 4TB of hard drives it gives me about a month of recording time in case I need to go back and review something. The quality of the picture(s) is so much better without any artifacting or the mess you see with analog / BNC connectors. It is also nicer to just run cat-5 cables to the cameras. I have my NVR, POE switch and battery backup in a hidden place so if someone broke in while we were away they would be unlikely to find it. The remote software is also great on my smart phone. I do have one more camera I haven’t hooked up yet. Maybe I should keep it as a spare. I just figure in about 5 years it will be time for a complete upgrade. Buy whatever is the latest and sell my old stuff to someone who want’s a good deal on a used system that works. -
2 HDD recording with Dahua NVR....
90beater replied to zimzam's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I set half my cameras(1,3,5) to record to one drive and the other half(2,4,6) to record to the other. The logs show both drives are recording about the same rate. I do record all the time on all cameras. -

The field of view is quite wider than I had expected. Here is a before and after from 10 feet. -

Thank you so much. That did it. I have been going nuts since the q-see site links to thier software and manuals isn't working. I spent a few hours trying to figure it out myself. -
Costco Q-SEE Camera Problems (Fixed)

Hi I just recieved two of the Q-See QCN7001B cameras from Costco and I can't get into the http server on them. They did not come with the software disc and quick start guide in the boxes. I have them connected to a POE switch and are getting power. I downloaded configtool and I can see and login to them from there. I did a reset to factory using the switch. I can ping them but I can't see them in IE9, I just get a page not found using http://192.168.1.125 (The IP address they are given). I also tried PSS but it just says login invalid when I try to login to them using the default admin password. They have software ver 2.100 Build 2012-12-7. I also tried connecting a laptop to the same switch with the POE turned off and get the same results. Is there something I am missing? -
New here, looking to upgrade, with vid to show CCTV is great

Hi I am new here and looking to upgrade from a 8 ch DVR with cheap cameras to something a little better. I am looking into a NVR with 720 or 1080p cameras. 4 fixed and one PZT at least. Costco has a great deal on a 1080p 4 ch DVR with cameras but I would like an 8 ch system if I can find one for not too much more. I have the ability to setup my own system (I work in IT) but so far haven't found too many options. OK on with the fun. I live on a kind of steep hill and recently had a furniture store box truck lose it's parking brake and roll down hill, turn right into my driveway and crash into my garage. The guys stayed until I got home 15 minutes later and all info from them and liability from the insurance company is taken care of. Did the cameras have anything to do with it? Who knows, but if they did take off the DVR would have all the answers. The camera: although the image isn't great did a great job of capturing what happened. The opposing view was taken out by what happened. With a HD camera I bet this would be even better.
