    Dahua HFW2100N question ???

After a lot of research, I think this is the camera I am going to go with for my security system (8 of them). I am confused though with the pigtail on this camera. I was originally under the impression that these IP cameras got their power from the network cable. I thought the CAT 6 cable I am going to run would supply the power AND video feed? What is the 12v plug for on the camera then?

Dahua 3216 vertical NVR with 1tb drive 16 channel

I may be interested in this. But I must admit, I'm not real versed on this unit, or the whole NVR setup in general. I intend to purchase 8 Dahua HFW2100N cameras, and am running CAT 6 on the outside of my house right before I have new siding installed. I understand that if I only run CAT6 wire, I will need a POE switch to make them work?
  3. I thought that was the case. Thank you very much for confirming that for me.
  4. Hello- I am getting new vinyl siding on my house in the next couple weeks. I would like to mount about 6 cameras on the exterior of my home for surveillance/security. I would like to run wire to all the locations underneath the new siding on the exterior. I do not have a good centralized location to wire all the cameras to, so I would really like to go wireless. Most all the complete systems I come across are wired. So I am wondering if I just decide on a wireless outdoor IP camera, then buy as many as I need? And then buy a DVR to hook them all up to? My 2 objectives are surveillance AND recording. And I would like the ability to monitor my property from anywhere via the web. What kind of power do most of these cameras require? I want to at least get the wire run under the new siding and blocks cut into the new siding where the cameras will eventually be mounted. Thanks in advance for any help!
  5. After some reading, I see that maybe I should just go with wired cameras, as (if I understand correctly) I can run power and signal through either Cat5 or RG-59?? If correct, which one would be better?
