  1. I have a NVR with 4 QCN7001 (Q-See) IP cams and I just upgraded the firmware of the camera to the latest version from the Q-see website. Now it appears that the IR lights are stuck on during the day. It looks all white during the day. You can't see anything. Looks just fine at night. Has anyone had this problem and how did you fix it? Wish I would have backed up the original firmware. Not sure how to do that if its possible. Thanks
  2. I cant thank you enough. That was it. I have so much to learn.. Now if I can just figure out why my NVR won't capture motion recordings. I set the cams to MD ,and the schedule to MD but it will never record anything unless I set the schedule to include manual recording around the clock too. The little red symbol for it detecting motion comes on but it never records. So I have to sort thru hours of footage. It has worked before but never consistently. I've flashed the NVR firmware and then it never worked. I wouldn't be surprised if I just don't know what I'm doing and its just another setting. Anyway.. Thanks again..
  3. I let my dog out this morning and noticed that she was coming from under the barn. I have a mini barn built on crest of the hill that is my back yard. It has stilts or legs holding up the back end of it. Anyway, she gets under there all the time. So shortly after I let her out I notice she has something hanging from her mouth and is coming from under the barn. I yell at her to come in and she does. I go out there and its an pack of sausage that didn't smell rotten and the only damage to it was from my dog chewing it. She ate about half of one of the four patties. I have one of those 8ch 4 cam sams club qsee systems. I haven't figured out the motion detect settings so I didn't capture anything. Also it seems as if they came from behind the barn and tossed it under it for her (my dog) to discover. A few weeks ago I played around with the motion and schedule settings and had it working pretty well and haven't looked at it since. Well now that i need it to work I find out that it only recorded on the last 2 Tuesdays or something like that which makes no sense because I had the settings set the same for all days. I now have it back to recording 24/7. I am going to switch to BI on a spare computer I have and add at least 4 more cams. I might go with the mini 2mp dahua cams. I have switched out one of the lenses to a 3.6mm(cam4) will probably switch the barn cam to a 3.6 this weekend. Do you think BI will do a better job at motion detect and such? Also I have a lot more storage on my PC than the 1TB drive that came with the NVR.. Here is a screen cap of my cams.
  4. I know what you guys mean.. Thats why we all have cams !
  5. I really hope that is all it was. It probably was. Better safe than sorry. I just need to workout the motion settings. Also I have 3 more cams on order. Getting the dahua mini bullet 2mp cams. I think I am going to use 2 of them as "overview" cams. Mounted way up high on top of my chimney. One over viewing the front of the house and one over viewing the back.
  6. Thanks for the replies. Actually, I thought I had it all setup and working correctly. I was working by myself so that may be part of the problem. I went out after each adjustment and got each cam to trigger a motion recording when I set it up. It seems like the settings didn't hold or something or now I need them to be more sensitive for some reason. I might just switch to BI and see if that works better. It might all boil down to the fact that I have never dealt with a security cam NVR before and just don't know what I am doing. (pretty sure thats what it is) Thats why I am on here... I don't know for sure if she really was poisoned. dvarapala you may be right. It may have been another animal that drug it under there. I don't think an animal would leave it uneaten though. I don't have anyone complaining about her. She barks but no more than most dogs. Most of us in my addition have sloped back yards and the neighborhood kids cut thru all the time. Plus I have empty lots next to the barn they cut thru a lot. It was probably not poison but it would be nice to see how it got there. Got to get this figured out. I took her to an animal emergency hospital and $188 later she was fine. She is an awesome dog and well worth the expense just to make sure she is ok. She never seemed sick or anything. I just don't have the best of luck sometimes so I didn't want to risk it. They gave her a shot to make her vomit and it also had morphine in it. So she was acting drugged for awhile. They also gave her a charcoal solution to absorb anything. They looked thru the vomit and the pak of sausage and didn't find any glass or anything specious. I asked if it could be analyzed but they said they don't have any tests for poison.
  7. I need to buy a new phone. I have never had a smart phone so this will be my first. My question is, does it matter which phone I get? Will they all work the same with the software for remote view and controlling a PTZ cam ? One of my main reasons for getting a smart phone is so I can monitor and access recordings.. Google is releasing a stock android version of the Galaxy S4 in June. Was thinking about getting one of those. Any suggestions ?
  8. Sweet. Thanks for the suggestions. I've been eying the galaxy phones, so I will prolly get one of those. I am thinking of switching from my NVR to BI so I will go that route and get a remote desktop app. I've always been a remote desktop user but the free ones like teamviewer and logmein no longer work for me. So it will be very cool to access my NVR PC from my phone.
  9. Hello.. I found this site as I begin my research for a security cam system for my home. I found a few other forums but this one seems to be the most active and full of knowledgeable people. I have only dabbled a little with cheap ip cams over the years and I have been disappointed. I know its because I bought cheap junk, but now I am ready to put together a "big boy" system. I really don't know what I am doing so I must admit I am a total newbie. I have a 2 story house on a small lot. I think I would like to have a HD dvr system with 8 ch. I would like a few outdoor cams and a few indoor. One in particular indoor cam that will need to be hidden and small (spycam) this is for a secure room that I rarely get into. I would want motion alerts for this room and motion activation for recording. I am not worried about false alarms for this cam as it will only be accessed by me or a thief. I would like to access the cams from the internet. I would also like to have stills to auto upload to an ftp or offsite storage in case the dvr is discovered. I would like to spend $2000 or less and do the install myself. Not sure if its possible to make the outdoor cams less noticeable either? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Ok now I am at the point were I am choosing my next 4 cameras and their placement. I am going with 2mp cams. Probably the 3200S dahua model. I might get the 3200C (large bullet) if needed. I just ordered 3) 3.6mm Mega lenses to get a wider angle on a few of them if needed. I want to swap out the cam that is currently looking across my back door and shed area with a 3200S with a 3.6mm lens. I will move the 1.3mp cam from there to a dedicated shed point straight across from it. I might change the lens to a 3.6mm but will see what it looks like first. I might move the back window cam to look out from the house instead of looking into the windows. I will change this lens to 3.6mm I like the 6mm lens on the driveway cam but I will replace it with a 2mp 6mm 3200S and move that cam indoors. I want 2 cams in the house. Probably change it to a 3.6mm for all indoor cams. I will replace the 1.3mp cam on the left side of my house that is covering the front door with a 2mp but I am not sure if I should stay with a 6mm or go with a 3.6mm? So far that leaves me with 3 cams in the back, 2 in the front, and 2 inside the house. I have one more to place. I am considering, forgoing my NVR and using bule iris on a PC I have so I can use more than 8 cams. This would give me more options. Although, I wouldn't be too upset if I didn't have any indoor cams. I really want an overall view of the front and back of the house. I am considering "going all out" and getting a 2mp PTZ to patrol the entire property. Please note that I will be moving in a year or two to a much larger property. So I will have better use of such a camera. I might just put 2 cams up on the chimney (One on each side) to cover the overviews.
  11. Found this switch. Has anyone had experience with this switch? is the 15.4w max per port good enough for IP cams? I Have q-see cams right now.. http://airlink101.com/products/agsw808poe.php I like it because its a gigabit switch and all 8 ports are poe. Just don't know if it would output enough power for cams.. Thanks
  12. I emailed them for a login and haven't heard back from them. I got my Zyxel switch today.. First line of business is to update the firmware of my bullets.

Ok I have another newbie request. I am still trying to get my system configured. Right now I just have it set to manually record all the time. only saves a few days before it fills up. I've tried setting the schedule to MD and Alarm but for some reason it drops the 2 front cams and doesn't record even when the red record symbol comes on. I have since reset back to factory defaults. I also can't get the NVR to use the UPnP feature with my router. When I set the router to enable UPnP, I can't access it remotely. I have the 16 port/8poe switch on order and will add at least 4 more cams. I am thinking about using my extra PC instead of or in addition to the NVR so I can do more than 8 total cams. But for now I will stick with the NVR. Does anyone have a QC808 NVR with a setting export file they can send me ? Thanks
  14. It looks cool on paper doesn't it? I like the gigabit/price part of it. Unfortunately I think it might be a discontinued item because I can't find it in stock anywhere. I just ordered the Zyxel's ES1100-16P but I might get a separate gigabit switch for the rest of my network later.

Yea.. I probably will just get a smart phone. I know what you mean about messing with works policies on remote stuff. The problem I am having specifically with my router is that I changed some the port forwarding settings and it might be conflicting with the remote access port to manage the router settings remotely. Everytime I try to log into the router from work it wants to download a file called wan_setting.php or something like that. It wasn't doing that until I changed something. I just need to figure it out.. But I will probably just get a smart phone. It is easier and It time for me to catch up on technology as far as phones go.. Also. I am thinking about switching to a PC based system. I have a quad core Phenom II 3ghz just setting here doing nothing. So I might get the 16 port POE switch http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833181164 I want to get a dahua PTZ and mount it on a 10' pole at the top of my chimney and or some of the 2.0 mp variable focus bullet dahuas (maybe 2) I really want an overview of the entire front and back of the house. I might get one of the 2mp domes without ir for the front to cover the drive and move the one I have elsewhere. I think the street light would be enough light. Most of the time the cam I have out there now doesn't even switch the ir on..

Thanks again Kawboy Here is the thing with work.. they use one of the oder OS's and keep very tight security. I have use Teamveiwer and LogmeIn but both stopped working from work. I think they must have that I was using it commercially. I am not sure work OS will play with my home os as far as windows remote access goes and I am not sure which ports to open on my router for that? I will probably try the ammyy admin one and see what happens. I was looking for a new remote desktop solution so this could serve multiple purposes! Not sure i can run the emulators unless they are portable. Most installs are locked down at work. I really need a new router so that might help with some of my issues as I am now unable to remotely access my router from work. I will give your suggestions a shot and see what I can do.. Thanks again for your help...

OK I am having an issue viewing my NVR from work. I think they must lockdown ports or plugins. I use a portable firefox browser that works at home but not at work.. I am "old school" with my phone so I don't have a smart phone as an option atm. Any suggestions anyone? Also I think my el cheapo Airlink AR680W router is giving me issues. Any suggestions on a good router? Also.. I am thinking about ordering more cams to max out my 8 ch NVR.. So more pics to come. Thanks

Here is a night time screen cap of the 4 cams I have installed so far. I will probably move them around when I get additional cams. If anyone has a good source for dahua 2.0mp cams let me know. I might get some on eBay.. Also as you can see my driveway has decent light from the light post. I was thinking about getting one of those 1080P non ir domes if this would be enough light?

Thanks again.. I think I know what you are saying on the placements. I will mark up some pics and post them with my version of the placements taking in consideration your placements as well. I am thinking about doing something about what you are saying but a little different until I get the addition cams. Also.. I can't seem to find Dauha or Q-See dome cams with LEDs . I only find the ones without. Do you think the bullet cams with LEDs will shine enough IR for the non IR cams to pick up on? I would like to use a dome like you said for the front door cam.. I might go ahead and fill all 8 channels. Should have my tax return so.. you know.. a hole is burning.. Also. the one dome with ir's i was going to get is a 3mp and my nvr won't take advantage of the res so if I could get 2mp that would be great or i might stick with the 1.3mp.. Maybe I should get one 2.mp bullet for the straight on Driveway cam for plates? If so, what lens should I order for it? 6mm? Also.. I know that mounting them as low as I can is better for the angle but wouldn't people be able to reach them or knock them down or move them ?

Just wanted to update my post. I bought the 8CH Q-See system from Sams Club that comes with 4 1.3mp cams. I am in the middle of running the cables down a wall from the attic. I will probably buy at least 2 more 2mp Dahua cams to with it. Now I just need suggestions on where I should place the cams. Also.. I have no idea how to configure after its all hooked up. I would like remote view on a phone or computer. So I will probably have to setup port forwarding. I know nothing about DNS settings. Will I have to get a host or something? I don't know a lot about networks. Thanks again. ***EDIT*** On second thought. I might just get 2 more of the 1.3mp cams. The 2 for $299 ones. Maybe for next years tax refund I might get a night PTZ to mount on my chimney so I will have a 360 of my property, although that might be overkill..
  21. Is there any routers that work best for NVR/ip cams ? I just have a cheap airlink N300mbps(wireless, 100mbps wired) router now. Might need to upgrade to gigabit at least.. Thanks
  22. Which cameras did you order?
  23. Ah.. thats right.. 1080P.. hmnn. I might need to use up the extra 4 ch to cover my property better or just get a good zoom to reach the street. Yea, I didn't think of that but I am thinking 2MP might be enough for me and my small cookie cutter house/lot
  24. Sweet! Thanks for posting this. I just placed my order. I am totally new to this ip/NVR world so I hope it isn't to hard to install and configure. I don't know much about router settings so I am sure I will be on here asking for port forwarding help and such... I almost ordered the 4 ch but really need the 8 ch. So this is great. I will probably add a couple 2 or 3mp Dahua cams to this in the future. Thanks again Chris

Ah.. I did not know that. Ok.. that explains a lot. I might be able to squeeze a few more feet of facial recognition out of the 3mp if I change the angle a bit but it is probably the minimum I'd go. I'd probably have to go with a good zoom for that front west corner for the red truck as suggested. Probably bot a dome for that one.
