Hello everyone, I have an American Dynamics Megapower LT that recently began rebooting itself randomly. I have tried a new power supply, but no change. It would not be a big problem except I have to reset all the monitors to their proper tours and cameras every time. That is a big PITA. I have an inquiry with AD, but I come here for real world experience. Thanks, Lou OIF VET "Misfits"

Hello everyone, I have an Ultra 8 which pans only at high speed and not under control. The problem often begins with a halt during boot up. If I manually spin the dome, past the optic sensor, the boot completes. The dome pans wildly during the boot sequence. After boot, all other parameters are controllable except for pan. Even a small pan right or left leads to wild panning in the direction requested. I have swapped out all boards, the pan motor, and the optic rotation sensor with no improvement. I have flashed the latest version of software into the dome. I did not replace the camera control board or slip ring, I do not believe those items are suspect. Anyone have any experience with these "possessed" domes? Thanks, Lou OIF Vet

Still no luck. The combination of the MPLT and CC300 is a nice setup. I am able to send RS485 between them and send RS232 between the MPLT and the Intellex. The only hitch is the dome config is not available on the Intellex GUI. The MPLT seems to be just another AD product that really doesn't work, like the Digimux series or the Ultra 8 outdoor housing. Changing the slip ring was easy, it is the same procedure as with the older models. Didn't help though, still having same problem. Thanks Lou OIF Vet

Does the Ultra 8 dome work with older I/O boards? I have an Ultra 8 with an outdoor dome and I see no fans at all, just a desiccant bag holder- that’s it? Will an older Ultra work with an Ultra 8 I/O board? The Ultra VIIE have built in motion detection, why doesn't the Ultra 8 offer this feature? If anyone is up on this new dome and has the answers, it would be a great help. Thanks

CCTV, I am interested in the Ultra discs; I'm rolling the dice on a unit this is asking for software on start up. Let me know how to move forward with that. As for the MPLT, I am looking for a replacement as opposed to service - in the interest of time. Most Internet sources seem a little “over the topâ€

CCTV_S, My last ditch effort, after speaking with an AD tech, is to use a BPS to insure my power is clean and not fluctuating. I find it hard to believe the unit is that power sensitive. Anyway, I will also pull it and inspect the board for signs of loose connection or heat. Thanks, Lou OIF VET "Misfits" PS – Do you have any Ultra Intellex restore disks 4.0?

Hello all, I recently installed an outdoor Ultra 8 dome with I/O board. I went into the dome menu and looked at I/O board status, the temperature indicated 41.9 Celsius, which is 107.2 degrees Fahrenheit!! How can this be? The ambient outside temperature is a chilly 18 degrees Fahrenheit! I can't wait to see what the summer temps are. Anyone have an explanation? Secondly, this particular dome needs a wider view - less then 3.4 mm. Is there a lens or camera I could replace the current unit with? The camera looks like a Hitachi model, probably vk-s series. I am clueless about how the RS232 cameras work, but I assume it works alone and communicates with the dome. I'm sure I would sacrifice zoom for wide angle, but it is needed in this case. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, Lou OIF Vet

You're right. I guess installing a panoramic mirror very close to the dome may get the job done.I'll give it a preset and maybe a PIR motion sensor alarm input. Any guesses on the temperature readings? Do I need to initiate the dome to calibrate this? Thanks, Lou
-
CCTV S, Yes, although AD refers to it as "8", the previous models were designated with Roman numerals. So the "Ultra 8" is technically the same as an "Ultra VIII". Do you think it is possible to use a lens over the camera to get a wider shot? My thoughts are of a contact like Fresnel type lens over the existing camera lens. Lou

What's the smallest Outdoor PTZ on the market? I have an application that requires a small one which will use Sensormatic or Pelco protocol.

News flash: There is a fan in the housing, well hidden. Found it tonight doing a bench test. This still doesn't excuse AD from improperly cooling with the camera halves on. Oh well....
-
CCTV, Check this out: http://www.americandynamics.net/WebApps/getDocument.aspx?filename=AD_Ultra_8_Installation_Service_Guide.pdf Page 9 under "Caution" Page 21 Figure 19 for reference I suppose they eliminated fans because of noise, but if they knew they had a cooling problem - why drop the fans in the housing? Thanks, Lou
-
Very helpful, but one more question: Even though there are no fans in the dome or housing, why do the instructions still advise pulling the camera/lens covers from the dome for outdoor housing installation? Looks so unprofessional and less covert, I thought AD would finally address this issue with the Ultra 8.

I enjoyed the game, but I cannot stand the announcers, we miss replays to look at those three stooges. In addition, the camera pans so far back each play. I want to see the football and the action around it, not the Goodyear blimp aspect. Farve’s wife was ok, but save that interview for pre-game. Monday nights are not the same without John Madden and Al Michaels. Anyway, this system is AD with four outdoor Ultra VIIEs. The Ultra is not going to be small enough for the newest/fifth location. Day/night with color/b&w respectively is preferred, distant street lighting at night. I use an Intellex 4.1 in combo with a MPLT and an ADCC300. The Intellex communicates with the MPLT and thus three domes are controlled with Sensornet. The Intellex, through the USB port to RS422 converter, controls one of the domes independently with AD422/EIA422 protocol. This configuration allows remote access to the dome configuration menu through Network Client over the internet or locally, very handy. For some reason, going through the MPLT(Sensornet) and this feature is unavailable from the Intellex. The Intellex is able to send Pelco protocol - which is prevalent in most generic domes. I understand this new small dome with not be manipulated by MPLT/ADCC300, only the Intellex- no big deal. Ok, I’ve taken the sodium pentathol and given the information, which may be interesting to some, but would not change the answer to my original question.

What is your outdoor application? When you are mentioning Sensormatic and Pelco protocols, then what is your head-in hardware? This reply has me completely lost, but here it goes - The outdoor application is to see things externally of the domicile with a camera that is ptz. I don't understand the term "head-in", except from being with a girl in High School and telling her that was the furthest I would go. Seriously, what difference does it make?

Hey, I just bought an Intellex which runs on Win98. You guessed it, I do not have the password/4 digit code. I took Intellex out of StartUp to access Windows. Now, the big question - Where's the file containing the password? If not, my secretary is going to stay busy trying all 10000 combinations. Thanks, Lou
-
I got it, Intellex configuration and hit restore defaults - default password reset to 1234. Hope this helps someone. By the way, my unit is a 2.2.17 version - oldie for sure. Thanks, Lou

CCTV Supplier, The four digit code at main Intellex screen, the live/playback camera screen with buttons across the bottom. Someone activated security and seems to have changed the default code of 1234. Since I can't get any further, I don't what version it is. I agree it is an oldie since it is running 98. I didn't pay much for it and intend to use it for stat cameras. I own two other 4.1 units which are fantastic. If I get into it, do you have any upgrades that would max out the unit? Thanks, Lou

Intellex access to Dome Menu Problem
Lou19 replied to Lou19's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Brett, I have to set the Intellex(Camera Control) to MP48 because the MPLT is not listed, but it works fine. You're right, the touchtracker will access the dome menu locally. The Intellex display, on the computer monitor or via Network Client, doesn't offer the dome menu button on the screen. I assumed the Intellex mimics a keyboard and should be able to do the same options(?). Accessing the dome menu remotely through Network Client is very handy, I can change settings off site. The Ultra VII Day/Night require more setting changes for internal Motion Detection, Sequence, etc. The older domes were set 'um and forget 'um. Anyway, thanks for your help and I will keep looking for an answer and share it. Thanks, Lou OIF Vet Misfits Spin 'em up! -
In the past, I controlled my domes using my Intellex 4.1 with RS-422 Dome selected in the camera control menu. It worked fine and gave me the ability to access the internal dome menu on the Ultras. The problem occurred when I moved the domes to a Megapower LT and switched the domes to SensorNet. I now control the domes by using the Intellex as a RS-232 keyboard input to the MPLT. After I changed the Intellex dome control from RS-422 Dome to MP48, the dome control display no longer offers access to the dome menu. It is blank between the X and the Pattern buttons. The MPLT and Intellex both control domes very well together, but losing the access to the dome menu really bugs me. Any experience on this? Thanks, Lou OIF Vet Misfits Spin 'em up!

My Digimux goes to a color bar test pattern several times a day for a duration of 5 seconds. Anyone know why that is? Also, accessing the recorded material seems to cause a lock up, any help on either question would be great. Thanks, Lou

American Dynamics Digimux & Megapower LT Daisy Chain
Lou19 posted a topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I have more American Dynamics equipment to deal with - Two Digimuxes and a Megapower Lt to dasiy chain them to one Control Center 300. My question is: How do I specify each device when using the keyboard? The plan is to continue to use Digiclient(LAN/IP access) through the Digimux but still control and manipulate the Megapower Lt through the keyboard. Thanks for helping out. Lou -
American Dynamics Digimux & Megapower LT Daisy Chain
Lou19 replied to Lou19's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Figured it out, although combersome at times. I now have control of 2 Digimuxes and a Megapower LT through a ControlCenter 300. The caveat to this whole thing is being able to control domes through both on site AND control domes over the web browser with the Digimux. The Digimux is not perfect but an OK DVR/Multiplexer/Server. The frame rate stinks, but the stuff was cheap on ebay. Thanks, Lou
