Megapixel Smegapixel!!!!
cctv_down_under replied to cctv_down_under's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Yes please ....PM Me -
There could be a lot of reasons, the biggest I assume is that your looking at a flat pallette...Most compressions will compress ...like objects...or similar coloured surfaces without great contour and will apply these areas with more compression....IE If I point a camera straight down at the carpet...more compression is applied to the picture, the reason is becasue the carpet is all similar..no detail no contours..no need to shave compression.....but if I lift it up...then it tends to see more detail and apply less compression. You should be able to adjust this...their are a whole lot of other things to consider though.. Wide Dynamic Range...concrete is white are the other areas of the picture dark...like shade etc or dark grass, flat surfaces reflect light...grass does not as much, so as far as the cam is concerned its getting a bright and dark in the same scene....better cameras handle this better. Resolution......are you using the highest res...have you set your DVr to the larger resoltuion. On an analogue monitor the picture always looks great..thats because its not compressed..its like comparing a movie in a cinema to a small file size one off the net (not that I would download movies of the net of course ) Also the refresh rate of a CRT vs a LCD is better....so it could be your video card or lcd that is the problem...most likely its compression

Totally agree about the SV Segate series...specially made for DVR's...why i here you ask. Normal drives when in a standard PC require the complete file (every bit and byte) to be completely intact in order to pass on the request of data....with video you dont need every bit and byte..missing bits or bytes dont need to be re requested...increasing read response times. They also run a lot cooler and have a longer MTBF

Hidden VS. Visible Cameras
cctv_down_under replied to dsiadmin's topic in General Digital Discussion
I saw some real neat hidden cameras recently, have you ever seen those mirrors used in retail to see around a corner, well with one way glass and a camera mounted inside...and the tendancy for people who are stealing to look into a mirror that looks around a corner...a great idea -
Kalatel Cyberdomes and Sensormatic?
cctv_down_under replied to DanKiely's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What you need is a PIT Converter I think it stands for (Protocol Interface Translator), it takes one protocol and changes it to another....I dont know the domes you are using or if you are using a matrix, but I would also check that the firmware of your dome does not support Pelco as well....a lot of domes these days support it...IE you can buy a Bosch Autodome and flick a dip switch to make it a Pelco Protocol. -
problems reinstalling geo GV-800 ver three
cctv_down_under replied to jeromephone's topic in Geovision
did you install the software before installing the card drivers..it may be that the software is saying ....ok start up..now check the dongle...ooops...no dongle was detected..this might happen if you instaled the software first and its settings locked on the fact that no card was installed, try removing everything from the registry and unsinstalling both card and software then try another PCI slot and install drivers first -
Try installing the latest Java as well for Jpeg view..why would you want to use it..becasue of the active x and not being able to use it on other browsers?

Forgot to add, that if your wife is walking directly towards the camera then the light bounce of IR will be going back to the camera, I assume she walked right in front of it...think of it this way. If you pointed a hose at full strength at me at the bottom of the driveway by the time the water (IR light) reached me I would be wet and not much water (light) would bounce away from my body......but the closer I walk the more water (light) would bounce back towards the camera, therefore the closer I get the closer the water (beam of light) and therefore the strength of the light passing back to your camera is more. This is why inbuilt IR is hardly a good idea, it usually is applied with a fixed lense, therfore it is set to cast its IR to the area that is best in focus...not usually right in front of the camera...the other thing is the light is traveling at the same angle that your camera is viewing so its bouncing straight back...if you used an external device for IR and a more expensive camera with an IR filter you would get a better result... Or to be perfectly honest....why not use a sensor light or slight lawn lights, the best low light cameras around really need very little light indeed. The blurry you may be seeing may not be the light, it might be the CCD holding the light on it to over sample the light a bit like overexposure on a camera, if it keeps the pixels charged for longer then it has more light, the effect is blurry movement, but on still images it looks fine, test fast moving objects to see if your camera has this feature or not.
-
Correct but wont an aspherical lens focus (wrong word) light better on the sensor due to the shape of the curved ground lens? I tend to disagree.....More expensive cameras have better spectral response and therefore are able to see more levels of IR, also more expensive low light cameras may see greater grey levels and therefore more changes of grey. The ability to remove the IR filter obviously enhances the amount of IR light let into the camera, cheper cameras usually do not have this... also the type of ccd and how the pixels are on the CCD actually makes a large difference, some have glass that can spread the light better, some have curved pixels so that light gathers easily around the pixel itself and some can actually change to use multiple pixel blocks at night and single pixel bloks during the day Agreed, however if the camera could handle the wide dynamic range better or had a more accurate photcell then it would perform better.

Problem with DVR falling offline
cctv_down_under replied to jturner67's topic in Computers/Networking
Is the dvr set to DHCP, can you run the web serving app as a service so you can be notified when it drops out, does your ISP change latent connections and block streaming out after prolonged use? -
Is it a long run for the cams that are going b/w
-
Top avataar...thats the new Bosch Modular Dome...right....I need a service tech in Australia.....will pay $80,000...if you know Bosch then head on over
-
If you buy a sevice monitor...then buy one with a loop out..this way you can focus at the cam and someone can concur at the head end

ftp and email from DVR without a PC??
cctv_down_under replied to Benichembla's topic in General Digital Discussion
Most will, but if your FTP'ing you need that pc that your sending it to to be on...most times your FTPing to a website..so that is always on? -
As a general guide, you divide the global frame rate (total) by the number of cameras to calculate your frames per camera

anyone use Bosch/Phillips Hiq or Divar?
cctv_down_under replied to crawl's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Havent used the HiQ but used plenty of Divars...good systems -
You could purchase a single channel web server and plug it into that

Linux vs Windows based DVR, the debate continues.....
cctv_down_under replied to neugent's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Correct......however there are more virus's for Windows and many more exploits...again...if on chip it is less likely to be affected, solid state OS is much more secure. Agreed...again...on chip fixes this as it requires a firware upgrade -
I would say it is several issues, if your getting colour pixelation that could be a video card, although you would tend to see bits of pink thrown in...this also hapens when set to NTSC instead of PAL or visa versa...but it would be so severe that you would notice it and see a greenish background at times. The pixel break up could be your video card...is it a vid card with hardware overlay support? Rolling in a picture or a bar rolling down the screen is usually a ground loop, are all the cameras powered from the same power point and same supply...and are any mounted directly to a metal frame....you may have a difference of ground potential.

I wouldn't feel embarassed if I were you..we have all done it...to be honest i bet at times we have all trouble shooted to buggery becasue we were just too lazy or to arrogant to admint we may have wrongly crimped a BNC...god knows I have!

Home IP camera solution
cctv_down_under replied to GSXRMovistar's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
1) Can feeds from an IP camera be dumped/saved to a local network share? A) In most cases yes and some webservers/encoders and IP Cameras support dual streaming so you could have one bandwdth to one IP and another to the next IP. 2) What sort of bandwidth would be looking at for one camera? A) Thats an open ended question, depends on compression, the amount of I and P frames, Frame rates, resolution. 3) I think the placement for the camera would need to be in the eves of the house or at least out of reach from anyone. Therefore for night viewing would an additional IR flood light be advised (car is 10-12 meters away from the eves)? A) Not unless your camera supports capturing IR light by removing an IR filter, or its black and white, to be honest most (and wait for the flames) IP cameras arent real good in low light, especially any that have a CMOS chip...take your mobile ph camera CMOS and compare that to a CCD security camera...big difference....if you want low light performance why not go for n analogue day/night cam with IR Cut Filter and then just plug it into a single channel IP encoder? 4) Is there a big difference between the lower and higher priced cameras? I’m happy to adjust my budget if needed. A) HELL YES!!!! and not just in performance, reliability is the biggest issue, this device will run 24/7 so it needs to be of good quality. 5) Anyone had any experience with this camera:- Aviosys IR IP Kamera 9060-O (Sorry cant post a link) A) Sorry I havent 6) Lastly (sorry for all the questions) anyone recommend a camera/setup for this purpose? A) For low light performance an analogue SDIII from Panasonic or an XF 495 from Bosch, plugged into a dual streaming encoder with one high bandwdth stream for local record and 1 x low bandwidth for remote viewing. hope this helps -
Thats a weird one, but it sounds like hardware overlay issues, try playing it on another pc, and make sure you not using the video drivers for something else...IE your not trying it at the pc and also through a remote VNC type connection. Pink or green usually represents hardwre overlay not being drawn, you could try another video card or turn down the hardware accelleration on your video card...if your running a DSP live display disable it temporarily
