Sue, I.P based cameras rarely come with HDD's this means that they are great for sending the data but you would not be able record the uncompressed data that they send without spending a fortune on Hard Drives therefore, to record the data you would still need to capture and compress the data, which is what a DVR card will do anyhow (howver I could be wrong, not an expert at them). I/P cameras are great for when existing CAT5 cable is in place already, the main reason they are used is because they dont have to run more cables if network is already there, however they can clog the network traffic and arent really as good a quality or designed to store the data. I would only use an I/P based camera for a 1 camera job as buying 5 or six would be more expensive than a DVR unit which can be networked anyway. If you contact Geovision ask for risa@geovision.com.tw tell her that Greg from Australia recommended you and she may look after you on price.

Sue i have not checked the D-Link camera but I suppose it is an I/P camera? For under a thousand dollars you could easily buy a PCI card for your existing computer if you have one? Input 2 cameras into the card Geovision has an inexpensive GV250 bit slow on the frame rate but thats all you would need with 2 cams, you will need an audio board as well to record audio (not sure if the 250 has support for that). Geovision will allow you to record video and audio and only those with password level access will be able to see or hear the recorded logs. Geovision also supports browser remote viewing and history view as well as 2 way audio(speach and 'listening in") and if you are looking for discreet cameras, you can buy what is commonly known as a pinhole camera, these cameras allow for only a pinhole in the wall and yet with their fish eye lens they can see a whole room, howver I would suggest either a PIR (Alarm Sensor) Camera or Smoke Detector camera as they are very discreet and easier to get into the right position, one word of advice though... If you use a smoke detector pinhole camera dont put it in the corner of the room, it becomes rather obvious. If going for covert cams, ask if the camera is CMOS or CCD and choose the CCD although I hear the technology in CMOS has improved greatly.

I tis not released to the market, I only have a Beta version for testing here yet, It is due to be released in December. As with most manufactorers PAL (because smaller) is used as a testing ground so when you get Version 6 be carefull to test for bugs first. I would assume it is not an add onn but included as per usual with Geo, however the database file would require the protocol of the register so it may only support a few registers at this stage.

Thats so funny, most of those cams are ex RA cams they are there for testing for faults, havent even touched the focus or dip switches LOL.. mind you camera 7 is yes the Ganz Wide Dynamic and the Keyboard is Ganz IP67 camera with built in 4 to 9 mm lens.. I thought you would be able to pick them.. I turned up the boost for the Wide dymanic, so the shutter will cause a bit of blurring with headlights etc. it can be turned down but it should give you colour in absolute low light! Try the Multi View, not released yet, uses active x controls, is neat way of downloading active x controls and getting a software affect. you can play back events too from the browser as well as voice 2 way. We have slow DSL here 1500 down and 256 up so not very fast, you can adjust packet size too which we have done so that means our DSL works to 3/4 capacity at 3/4 Quality as well. Ganz rocks!! -
We sell their entire range of PAL cams, I wonder why two different models for same company? I would be keen to know prices too.

Need info/recommendations about cards, brands, dealers
cctv_down_under replied to ChuckM's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Be very caredull, manufactorers often under quote the specs needed and think about future upgrades. For example Geovision recommend P3 800 MHZ but if you tried to run their version 6 software it would run like a dog especially the 400FPS system. I would recommend you go for Hyper threading CPU and a video card that supports hardware overlay... Dont use IBM drives and use 7200 Spin drives only, dont skimp on the ram, Use XP Pro and I would recommend a Motherboard with a built in Raid controller. All of this may not be needed now but later if you wish to upgrade your version , you should be able to take advantage of the upgrades. Because I have sold over 500 DVR units (probably more) we get Beta versions to test so we tend to know what is going to be released and forethought can save a lot of cash later.. My strongest advice,, do not use your system for anything other than security. -
we currently deal with a Mr Toyota, tell me why the US Ganz (CBC) sells different models to the Japan office? Any tips you can give us in dealing with them?

Learnt long ago not to touch that ....that isnt mine! ends up costing more... but if you need the work I understand.. PS your brother looking ofr a job at all is he in this industry?

Sorry mate,,, how is that for timing.. the one time I post an option for someone to log in, I had to make some adjustments to the software.. Laughing out a loud! It will work now if you want to try again.. I think ME is the ONLY platform that does not work. you will need direct x loaded on your machine (comes with latest internet explorer which comes with XP). other than that you could try JPEG instead of MPEG4 pretty poor in features but may work with systems that dont have direct x or the later codecs that come in 2000 or XP. Sorry bout having to change things just had to change your passwords and thought I cpould do it quicker than you trying tolog on.. but darn phone rang.. try again now! -

By the time you read this post I will have reconfigured the access for you.. dont advertise the features you see on my system as they are not yet relkeased to the public, multiview window and two way audio.! should be ok to try again now! -
I have seen similar camera monitor kits sold here, but I have always told the customer to get rid of them rather than play with them, if you want to pay the freight I can see if they are still floating around and you can play with them, but they are junk.

Sorry bad explanation again.. what i meant to say is that yes good pictures but with IR Illumination! you can use a low F Stop lens with IR as long as you have a camera that has a photcell sensor built in to determine the difference between IR light and visable light. The ganz at 32x boost is at 0.012lux which is pretty low light.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by AVCONSULTING: I agree with our OZ associate in that the Ganz are definitely top quality and a very reasonable price. I used to be a master distributor for Computar and Ganz and found them exceptionally reliable and backed by a factory who is second only to Pelco when it comes to customer service. Maybe equal to Pelco. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why did you stop selling them, we have had no problems with them at all, just curious?

I would suggest the router as the easiest of solutions and the leqast time consuming + you get a firewall which should help to protect you.

Your DVR does not necessarily have to be the same operating system as your remote viewing systems. I would strongly advise against this option, Compatability is a huge issue and distributor know how will result in you being able to take a machine back to be swapped instead of waiting to geta n answer form a manufactorer. Trust me you WILL have issues if you so much as use the wrong chipsets. This is actually not true, you can purchase systems that will allow you to have up to 36 cameras in one PC howver I would not recommend them if you are planning on having fast recording, stabiltiy or any cash left in your pocket. if you can afford it geta 200 or 400FPS system (faster in NTSC) however 100 FPS (120fps NTSC) would be the minimum I would recommend over 16 cameras, however take ito consideration you mentioned not all the cameras are operating at once... well geovision automaticly takes the frames for that camera and passes it around the system to make each camera record at best speeds, for example if 10 of 16 cameras arent being in motion recording at the same time you will have 10x the maiunt of frames allocated to a single camera. Out of the cards you mentioned I have tried Geovision, Aver Media and Tai Labs, Geovision having the best software and Avermedia coming a very close second, tai labs I did not rate. i have never Tried G-Max or heard of them which is weird. All of the cards have compatabilty issues and most use the same chips so they mostly ahev the same issues, Geo seems to be the easiest to install however it too has some issues. Jpeg gives better quality still shots but when lots of movement occurs it fills the HDD too fast. Mpeg4 is later Technology and is not aws good with still shots but gives small file sizes on moving pictures. Mpeg2 is dvd quality and Mpeg4 is DivX Mpeg2 is very big in file size and therefore not used mush. Geovision has both and their own compression (not released yet). Geovision I have found is the easiest to use however I would not say that the cards you have already looked at have the same features, not till you sample it anyway. Not many manufactorers give good support this is why you SHOULD buy form a distributor that can support you, you will save money in the long run. Some will some wont, I am in Australia so i cant, the best bet is anyone who sells or has done jobs should be able to show you a remote connection to a site to view what they have done. Make sure your UPS will shut down the system or you will get currupted files, no good if when the UPS runs out of power it does not shut your system down through software.. you should be able to get a single UPS just for your DVR for around $85 US. Also when you play back files you will get 640x480 resolution In pal which is quite large indeed. There are only a few DVR's on the market that are 1024x768 and they are Linux or very slow! -

The Ganz one is 0.012 Lux and is still colour.. as for the fevers, why not try the korean higher end day night it has a phoito sensor to differencuiate between IR light and Normal light and has a mechanical filter change instead. If you want LOG into my machine tonight (it is now 1:13Pm) only have it on half settings at the mnoment, but it is pitch black in the street. 203.217.13.67 if you havent used Geo before then email me digitalsecurity@westnet.com.au for instructions.. password and username are AVDVR... You will know the Ganz camera... trust me!! Short intructions are... Hit submit---------Choose DSL/Cable or Modem if slow connection---You may have to wait to download small codec first time connected (takes 30 secs max)---------- Choose how many windows (cameras)---click submit---- press play--- type in username and password. Hope this helps -

I have never tried their stuff. Are they a manufactorer or Re Seller I have not been impressed with any IR Illumination cameras yet, they seem to only beable to handle small areas and they only seem to cover small distnaces too. I do sell on however not a big mover, mainly because the cameras that will switch to B/W on low light levels seem to perform better than those that use illuminators, unlles you intend in using a array of LED's seperately I would steer clear of them.. the two cameras I would recommend for low light that I have are the 1/ Ganz wide Dynamic camera (fully Digital) ZC-Y30 $307 US Japanese It has configurable shutter speed, manual option for wide dynamic performance and on screen zoning for wide dynamic area setting it also has multi level Backlight options and zoning for backlight compensation as well as DB settings for Gain control, Chroma settings and Camera ID, Sharpness adjustments and much more, Hell of a camera 2/ Korean Day Night camera, X View Sensor Switches to B/W on low light levels @ $207 US I do sell the LED one at $134 US If you were going for a zoom box why not go PTZ with 25x zoom Day Night camera and enviro housing roughly $1573 US, that is just the camera though not the keyboard or housing. hope this helps -
Rory, Ganz are pound for pound the best quality cameras for price in the market, i am not biazed but Japanese seems to be always the best, I mean these guys make Computar lenses too so you get the best combinations, Their wide dynamic cameras are second only to Ikagami but half the price.

In my opinion either Sanyo or Ganz are the best cameras on the market, Sony does not release all of its CCD chips to other manufactorers however there are many grades of Sony chip available to the market and some manufactorers use cheaper grade ones and really it comes down to the components used to generate the signal as well, for example how good the electronics are. However you can buy good quality Korean cameras that in my opinion are not that much different than Sony but they do not have the overheads therefore the cost is less and you can buy direct not from a distrbutor.. there are guys that are very cheap in Korea and they sell Sharp and Sanyo chipped cameras,, in my experience the order of quality in manufacture goes... Chinese, Taiwanese, Korean, Japanese and I will only sell Japanese and Korean.. Japanese Manufacture is always the best! The sanyo Cameras Rock!! especially the one with built in motion tracking.. no one else does 520TV lines yet that I am aware of, mind you the Ganz camera range is Cheaper and very very good indeed, so is Panasonic but they recently had problems with their CCD chips.
