DVR rebooting itself
cctv_down_under replied to chewingyu's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Check the windows event viewer for the shutdowns to find out what is trigerring it? -
Firstly ensure it is not an IRQ issue, then secondly I ask, is the whole ssyetm on a ups, IE is the power for the camera also plugged into the UPS, it sounds like when your power overloads you are getting undervoltage, then whe it cools down again it is fine

Depends on ow many channels, Sanyo make a nice 1ch

Actually IP cameras can give better quality, things to consider are. 1/ Do you get charged for uploading from holiday home? 2/ How reliable is the connection going to be, IE if the internet connection goes down you no longer have a recording with the IP option. 3/ Why not go for a Hybrid system, this allows you one IP cam at the holiday home and 2 analogue ones at your primary location.

I beleive you can now set multiple areas with different sensitivities now in Geo

How are you getting six camera to one monitor, please tell me you are running individual power and coax, not looping in and out?

Firstly you need a camera lens that supports Auto Iris, a camera is not unlike the human eye, for you to look at the sun you would damage your eyes, therefore you squint to allow very little light in, the best you could do is buy a camera with multimple mode switching, this would allow you to set an area on the screen that is not affected by such bright light, what is happening is that the camera reads the brightness as a whole but bright white light is considered "HOT" and if there is too much it will try to electronically adjust the image or close the iris. No camera should look dorectly at the sun, but some modern cameras allow you to use a wide dynamic range, IE very bright and very dark on the same scene, so what you need to do is set your wide dynamic area to cover the path of the sun and enable the wide dynamic only at certain times, so my suggestion is a Bosch XF using two modes and a timer relay, I would also use UV filter on your lens!

I have been using this for a while and it is much simpler than VNC, becasue it takes litterally 30 seconds to set up and allows me to group my remote sites together as well as send invites to manufactorers to log in, it seems fast and very simple becasue of the web interface, I just wanted to know if anyone knows how secure it is. It really is sisimple, point your person to the website, get them to use your log in and then ask them to click the "add computer button" it maps thier IP and follows it (even dynamic) and all you have to do is click the icon to connect, the firts time it loads a small amount of software but thats it and it can be tuned on and off so easily. I am using the free version http://www.logmein.com

I noticed in the product booklet that Geo has a standalone now, can anyone confirm this?
-
Almost any ptz will do that, I like the Bosch ones personally, but Panasonic and Pelco are also very popular
-
Nope it has buttons and everything, looks like a real standalone......they also have a NVR listed

cctv_down_under replied to rexthedog's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It might struggle with the new software but older versions should run fine! -
Altech are not the only distributor and unless you are building them yourselves I suggest you consider their return policy...no advanced replacements... Merit sell them and we could sell complete units to you as well, there is a lot to consider when setting up a Geo unit and experience really saves headaches, PM me I am in Brisbane and would be happy to point you in the right direction, i am betting you might even know me

determining good and bad coaxial cables
cctv_down_under replied to pingsquare's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
I tend to agree with Thomas, it makes a small amount of difference, the real issue is in the shielding and reflectance that the cable offers -

cctv_down_under replied to Willie's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Just for crap and giggles....assuming that you are running 24v power to the camera or that you have a polarity protected 12V camera...go tot he PSU for the camera and reverse the polarity if it is not a plug pack of course, you may get lucky -
