ip vrs. dvr meeting in 3hrs
cctv_down_under replied to griffonsystems's topic in General Digital Discussion
sadly, I Have to disagree and agree with Rory... there are many advantages to IP and yes...you can indeed just plug in a smple encoder that can also control the PTZ without the need to run cables... the breakdown is like this... If you have existing bandwidth that you can use then....it is good to go IP because you do not have to recable the whole site, the other advantages is that if you ever relocate the head end (recording unit) you do not need to re route all the cables... Rory is right however that it is not cost effective unless you have many many cameras, but this is where people make the mistake of thinking that if there are many cameras and IP are TWICE (and sorry rory but they are only TWICE) as expensive then the expense will be more than twice that of the anaologue equivelent.... but that is wrong.. if you were to cable for 60 cameras at $120 per camera run, then that would be $7200 worth of labour, not to mention cable and let me tell you that ONE fibre network with a few switches is not all that more expensive, except now you have other options like...PA...Aircon...Database...Voip etc, because you now have a backbone infrastructure. To pick up everything and move would require one new patch lead not re cabling 60 cameras... IP actually can do MUCH higher resolutions than analogue.. however I have to agree that on average the quality of CCD is not as good... but that is not always the case. The biggest problem with I.P. is that if the network crashes then you stop recording (you can get webservers that have a HDD in them making analogue cameras IP cameras and allowing the camera to record onto a webserver when the network is down and then replenish the missing data to the NVR Machine) but this is the same as having a DVR for each camera so it is relatively expensive. So unless you have unlimited bandwidth and have Unlimited cash then Analogue is probably the best option unless you have a really good infrastructure that you can use and very deep pockets...However on a sliding scale IP is coming down in price much faster than analogue cameras so it will not be long until anlogue cameras are obsolete ~ I hope this helps -
Can you tell me which one of these it looks like

Can u manually turn ATW off

i understand that...a dn I thought someone would pull me up, what i am saying is that due to the small aperture and lens that they tend to overcompensate...knowing that they will not get as much light, i could have said that the pixels are rounded so that light falls more evenly on each pixel rather than square pixels so that less gaps of light are on the chip or even said that they use a magnifying type glass to accentuate it... btu I thought it just sounded better this way...In truth you are right and I am wrong my bad, but ai was not meaning like a aspherical lens, moreover that the ccd make up allows more light to be captured and therefore they are succeptable to overshoot
-
Pin hole lenses are usually wide angle, so they spread a lot of light onto the CCD chip, white is obviously the highest heat signature, it is unlikely that this is the reason becasue the eye of the pinhole is so small I was hoping more for a refelctive surface, like a metal polished bench and a down light..I would say it is likely that the camera is just not good quality, is it a CMOS or CCD chip?

Camera not sending video to DVR unit...HELP!!!
cctv_down_under replied to Brandon@RobySolutions's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Well it all seems to be pointing towards cable or BNC but one thing to note is what voltage you are getting at the camera end, keep in mind that not all cameras especially those of 12V have a tolerance much above 12V unless it is an more expensive camera, i haev seen weak video signals that can not be picked up on DVR's because of Over or Under voltage by just a few volts, It really does sound like cable....run it on the floor first next time and test there and then recoil and throw through the roof, if it still fails on the floor then buy a 12V plug pack and power itr locally from an extension cord just in case! -

hang about, you say this one camea is 12V???? i am not patronising you, but you have made sure you have not wrongly wired the polarity, it is not important on 24V but it is on 12V (sorry i know this is obvious) also if it is on a sperate supply, them find out if that is the issue....is it overloaded, what voltage do you get at the otehr end under load, is it fused,...could the fuse be shorted? -

try running seperate power to the camera, strong braid more than 12 strand, what can happen with soem cheap siamese is that when it is moulded into the outer sheath it melts into the sheath and this is fine when you coil it up for distribution, but once you straighten it on a run it snaps the power cable strands, stopping as much voltage to be there on load. So run soem power on the ground or locally (small plug pack or your 12V drill from your battery if you have one (beware of the voltage), but firts I would change the camera incase it is not working properly, that must be the easiest thing to do with opther cameras that work fine -
need help for installations of 50 fixed cameras and 40 PTZ
cctv_down_under replied to straky's topic in System Design
Unless you know well how to mux into fibre, which is the cheapest option I would sub this out, I suggest you try to talk him down on his recording frame rates, perhaps demo some speeds to him, i have some video images that are recorded at different speeds that i can send you if you like. If it still has to be this speed, you are going to be best served with video encoders and network cameras, quote the system as the same as you would for any other but add 1 x VCS (Bosch) video encoder for every camera, this will make the cameras become network traffic and if the right encoder is used then you can control the PTZ thorugh it as well, so no need to run extra wires, you may need several token ring fibre networks to run this and I would suggest you sub this part out and get some solid advice....work out the data stream coming to each NVR and let your network guy advise you on the limits of bandwidth. If you use a system like the Bosch Dibos, you can have 32 IP Inputs and 32 Analogue in each box, so...your local cameras closest to the DVR you can run on analogue (but you will not get that frame rate), and the fartehr ones and PTZ's are converted to IP traffic, you can integrate the PTZ controller to handle all the PTZ's but keep in mind that you can only see 2x CCTV monitors per DVR, so if you need to have more than 2 PTZ's being viewed at once then you need a matrix controller.. Just PM me if you need help, but my advice is to get your manufactorer to visit sits (ONLY AFTER SIGNING A NDA AGREEMENT) and have them design it for you. -
Contingency - record images to more than 1 DVR

The other option is to use the functions in the Geovision Control room software, you simply buy a cheap headless pc and stick it in the roof (with correct ventilation of course), then you run a cross over cable to the Geo box and wire a sinlg e I/O inpt to your alarm keypad, this means when you leave at nigth or arm your system the keypad tells the geo to send all files to the control room, on either motion detection or actual alarm activation of your security device (alarm system), the advantage is less labour (1 wire) no need for Distribution Box, no need for second DVR, very easy to back up from, just use remote desktop and a second crossover cable or wireless which is even better. (Mind you I have a thing about being hard wired). The most important thing is it is not OBVIOUS as to what is going on! -

Sorry i do not know this product too well, and am not all that fond of it really. -
I agree.... I can not for the life of me uderstand why they do not he an export of settigs feature as well so you can save the settngs, I know there are already too many options for the Geovision but a simple tick box that sas "Eable montioring after 5 minutes Idle" woud be nice.

Try uninstalling the card and software and hack out the INI file and registory then install the drivers first then the software. ~ I hope this helps

There are several cameras out there now that have this technology I recently tested about 12 leading and cheap dome cameras looking for the following features in a dome. Varifocal lens 360 Gimble Service Monitor plug in Vandal proof option Rubber seal Easy finger access for focus Surprisingly the best value came from the Baxall dome that was sold here it had all these options, however I know Baxall do not manufacture them, i think they are a Vista doem I would have to look into it. ~ I hope this helps

Camera not sending video to DVR unit...HELP!!!

Also you may want to change the actual camera, just for testing, keep in mind that te Pk to Pk signal requred for analogue recievig on a LD is actualy lower than that required by a DVR capture card. So firstly hook up the LCD at he DVR end and then change the camera, lastly do you have any T Peices or anyting in te mix? -
This is correct, and waht people failt o know is that if you only use data capture, then you can only search what you would have printed on your reciept...for example, you may want to seacrh for all transactions doen by operator 0000045, without supervisor intervention (this is not on the docket),that were done at terminal 05 between 4 and 5 pm when the manager is not around, further you may only want to look at the transactions that had a discount of more than 20% (perhaps staff discount) and that were over $50 and included cigarettes from department no#12 and "open department sales", in other words an item that is scanned thorugh as an item not on file...you may want to narrow this down to all transactions that = $52...but with data capture all the info is cleaned up on the docket so there is less to searc, you are also limited by distance etc, having a pos translator that speaks with the raw data, not the output data on 232, gives a much greater searching facility.. ~ I hope this helps

Thomas, I am not sure if it is real or not either but this person certainly seemed very knowledgable in the area and he did seem to know a lot of what he was talking about...it all went over my head mind you it was interesting learning about how the iris is non reflective and that if looking straight ahead the distance from iris to iris gives up to 42% of the result, he told me about a lot of things that i had already read about in regards to this technology, so perhaps it is not at 98%...that is actually what I said, I said it was at around 75-80% but he assured me that was for commercial products not high end stuff that costs several hundreds of thousands of dollars per camera... ahy I do not know if it is the truth becaue i am a firm believer that "If i see it....I believe it" but he certainly seemed sincere when he visited our booth in Australia all the way from the US -
if there is not a lot of red in the picture or blue I doubt it is phase but you could check to see if your camera supports colour phase and R G B changes but more likely, not strong enough a camera signal, either undervoltage or a really long run
-
by far and away the best POS remote software is the POS Investigator from March Networks, the reason is that it is purpose built for this application (the pos program) it is not doen through data capture though so you need to send them an electronic copy of the journal entry for them to integrate you and this costs loads of money.

I doubt it will be a fault with the camera becuase you already swapped one, but is the light level there right ont eh threshold for the camera, IE is it possible that it is trying to lift the level and going back again..try adjusting the DC level on the camera itself as this would explain why the other camera did this as well. Check your center pin as you have not ruled out cable yet....try pointing the camera away or twoards a brighter lower ligth source...are all cameras that are acting up int he same lighting conditions levels, make sure that FLK is enabled on the camera aswell, but the best advice would be to try another brand of camera, (something good) in the same spot, this will at least eliminate the cable, and if not then try it on s service monitor to eliminate the dvr....when you checked the voltage of the camera did you check it under load or just the end of the cable, sounds a lot like an undervoltage.

I would ahve to imagine that the Bahamas is going to be different to everywhere else but in most cases like this you will need to speak to the government's consultant in this field and get him to specify the equipment if a project is ever funded by government...I am doubting there are many cinsultants in the Bahamas though ~ I hope this helps
