power regulator or surge protector
cctv_down_under replied to blowrabbit's topic in General Digital Discussion
When looking at UPS devices you need to be carefull, there is a lot of marketing hype, I like to make sure that your device will handle all 9 types of power problems, most will NOT. 1/Total Power Loss 2/Power Sag ---- This is elminated by units that can lift and lower the input. 3/Power Surge ---- can be caused by large machinery turned off 4/Over Voltage ---- this is the most common cause of damage 5/Electrical Line Noise --- causes data corruption and is rarely protected 6/Frequency Variation ---- this can be caused by Gen sets etc 7/Switching Transient ---- hardly ever protected by most ups, the reason is it happens to fast before the UPS switches over, this is the difference between ONLINE or LINE INTERACTIVE UPS. 8/ Harmonic Distortion ----- caused often by switchmode power supplies 9/ Undervoltage ---- very commo0n, but usually caused by overdemand at the switch. My suggestion is to explain to the customer that motion detection through software is not accurate, simply put fear into him by saying it may email when a shadow occurs or car headlights or electrical interference. It is strange to find a DVR that does not have this feature, but I certainly would not use this feature anyhow unless you use the I/O type of device with the machine and a true PIR detector. There really is no point looking for an add on product when most alarm panels will do this and they are very very cheap and quite obviously more accurate in doing it.

License Plate Capture Camera & Settings Debate
cctv_down_under replied to iwatchlive's topic in Security Cameras
Thomas seems to be on the right path, the biggest problem you will face is moving traffic requires a fast shutter speed perhaps 1/500, but in order to get this speed you will degrade your light capture so it will be much darker, also chances are that you will be zoomed in to get the plate but this will close down the iris letting in even less light. You will be having a fast shutter and low light but headlights will be high light, so you also need to set a PEAK level so that headlight smear will not affect your results and the ligths near a plate will not wreck your results. Also you will need to turn down gain levels so that you are not helping the bright light from headlights, the most common mistake people make in trying to capture plates is to get a good picture first and then worry about the plate, the secret is to make the picutre dark, the plate is reflective and faster shutter will make it dark anyhow, the headlights will be all the light you need. The best option is without doubt the BOSCH XF camera, this has a TRAFFIC mode designed to allow this or some other camera that has inversion for the ability to eliminate smear. The Bosh has a default shutter mode that will switch between fast or slow shutter dynamically which gives the best of both worlds and from memory goes up to 1/10,000 speed. -
Help with my DVR System
cctv_down_under replied to Rahul1023's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Download the latest drivers from ATI, from memory they are called Detonator Drivers, make sure you are plugged into both before you start up the computer and you should be able to use both views, do not use extended view of desktop, use clone view, but your DPI on the analogue will make it look poor and it is a conversion so you may not be happy. Using VGA splitter limits distance unless taking advantage of very good quality cable and gold connectors etc, I would use the quad or cheaper still a looping switcher to get your result, you can not run far from the ATI card if you choose a VGA card option. -
Have to agree with Steve, dual streaming is almost standard in all I.P. CCTV systems of the high end nature.

crawling like a rat
cctv_down_under replied to griffonsystems's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Are racoons scary? Gosh I just don't install anymore, I simply sub out any jobs I need to do, not because I am lazy it is more to do with lack of productivity, I know it saves a few dollars to do it yourself but the problem is that most installs take a few days to do, and quite simply when you are doing installs you are not selling and if you add time for training and picking up equipment then all of a sudden there is 4 days you did not sell. After looking at finances and looking at graphs of when I made money and when it was quiet it bacame apparent that I ALWAYS started to drop down on the graph just after an install and that was because I stopped selling, so now I NEVER crawl through a roof anymore! -
CSG I disagree with you, I can tell you that the more time you spend on your qoutation the more chance you have of getting it, this can be the difference between looking proffesional and charging more or looking like you just don't care. For a end user to want security a problem must exist, therefore it has to be serious in order to spend money and therefore they must be stressed to want or need to do it, making your customer confident in your profesionalism is the best key to winning quotes. I quite often do three quotations and include a Visio drawing, onsite I use my PDA in the quote to take pictures to add to the quotation I also use a light level indicator and I take a measurement wheel to measure camera runs, I use a viewfinder to determine lens sizing and voice recording on the PDA to store info on the cable runs and equipment needed. Choosing three quotations offers three levels of security and allows the person to choose the level they can afford or need. I would like to learn more on Visio as I am a basic user but I cant find a link to download a tutorial anywhere!

Well, here comes a long post (in the vain hope that young Herman will let me into the dealer section)? Firstly I have to agree with jisaacmagee, placing a card into your home computer is hardly ideal for security and having a dedicated machine can eliminate a whole lot of probems. I am glad you mentioned what areas you want to look at, keep in mind that viewing longer distances is akin to looking through a set of binoculas this means the further you look the smaller the scene you can cover, therefore the further you look the more cameras you need to use to cover larger areas, as for sodium vapour lighting this is possibly the hardest of all lighting for CCTV to use, the main reason is the colour temperature of that lighting will throw all your other colours out so you will not have accurate colour representation unless you go for cameras that support this, I know that prisons have been having this problem for years as sodium lighting is popular in penal situations. As you can see there are a lot of things to take into consideration for example many of Rory's questions are quite valid, I have been doing CCTV for a long time and the best advice I can possibly give you is to not do it yourself, CCTV is not like home audio or video it is an exacting science, you may just want a simple video footage of your suspect but the courts want much more, to prosecute someone you need strong evidence and beleive me after you have been robbed you WILL want to prosecute so I would task a proffesional to at least quote your premise. CCTV is an area that requires complete profesionalism and your system can be spoilt by the smallest most simple thing, therefore for the extra money I would ask a good proffesional to provide you with a quotation. What sort of zoom are you after, it should not be that expensive for a video drive lens, most people give them away these days

The system can be browser based for free, or you can purchase a licensed remote client, I actually just tried one out and you can record larger than 2 Ciff you can record 4Ciff if using network cams. http://www.buildingtalk.com/news/bsc/bsc134.html

Perhaps you are correct, but I doubt a company of Bosch's size with it's own programmers would boast about making the software if they did not, I heard they spend 16% on r and D alone thats 16% of 640 Billion Euro of course that is probably sales garb and also would include all their products but if that is the case it would be weird for them to have software engineers and then outsource it. But you are right they are only new in the game since the Germans took over so anything is possible, I might ask our Rep next time he comes in kissing our butts.

I must say it would be awesome to have someone stream their DVR screen and audio so that I could get a complete walkthrough on their DVR, every feature explained etc, that would be insanely brilliant.

Is NetZeye connected to Geovision in anyway?

How can i get a sample -
That is my point, with dual codecs ans dual streams you can send samll constantly and large is there if motion or alarm!

Rory I have dealt with Bosch for some time and although that campany is a Bosch Partner it does not mean that Bosch Bought it from them, i know that those machines are designed in Eindhoven as the Engineer was at a trade show that I visited fairly recently, the remote client is fairly similar and he did mention to me that a full SDK is available for almost all Bosch Products including the Divar Standalone they sell but I really think it is just a simple copy, but very similar. Can you ask them the question on who makes it?

Does anyone have any other GUI's for Geo, I would love to see them! -
I would agree with Griffin, unless it is a full body camera and someone either turned up the level too high or failed to do a Back Focus (My Guess)
