Actually I believe that the main reason they are non existant is that lead programmer left before completing project.. I must laugh at that product!

Wow what a thread... did you guys really think you could get away with a thread this prevocative and long without my typical lazy missspelt reply... Well here goes... after all....... I should know I have sold and done both over many years.. even starting out with a quad and PC Anywhere when there was no DVR Cards. I must say the following: PC Based systems are stable only if you have a PC Nerd like me to maintain them, yes they are vulnerable to attacks and virus's but if ur a good nerd that should not be an issue, yes they need updates...once again nerd it up and no issue... yes they are unstable.... HOGBLOODY WASH !!!!! XP is fine, so is embedded XP if you know how to lock out...yup if ur a nerd.. then it's really not an issue, to be honest I was deadset against standalones.. wanna know the reasons why PC was better... it's faster, its easier to network, it has more features, it is adaptable to your environment especially security and it is nowhere near as expensive.... or is it..to be honest any nerd will admit an occasional crash is par for the course and we still consider a crash every 3 months as stable.. to be honest I was the biggest and most ardent PC based fan in the world.. the arguments had between Rory and I are more than Infamous. One thing I learned about embedded is that it is truley stable.. I am not talking fairly stable.. I mean truley, now PC may be cheaper but is it... not if you have to support it...as support=money. Bottom line is..if your a geek or a nerd PC is the best way to go, if not, standalone, they are just as easy to upgrade (that's hogwash thomas) in fact they are easier to upgrade. One thing worth mentioning is PC will always have the technology advantage, half the crud is made by microsoft.. example..packet writing for back up, back up programs, UPS software, codecs etc etc.. it will always be that PC will be the forefront of features.. so if you want features.. then PC but if you want stability then standalone. Raw processing power grows in PC's and can't in standalones so I vouch for the ability to upgrade hardware.. as for port assignment, CMON most standalones have been doing this for ages...sheeesh mine has a firewall in it. No matter what you read, no matter what you think, bottom line is this.. the new stuff will always be on PC, then it will be emulated by embedded but embedded will have less bugs and less issues, but it wont have pretty features or the processing speed. Cop the speed of this baby! http://www.austarsecurity.com.au/images/stories/brochures/ultimate_series.pdf then look at res of the standalone. http://www.austarsecurity.com.au/images/stories/brochures/professional_series.pdf People will always be comfortable with what they are comfortable with... some like standalone some like PC, I personally can see the benefit of both, Standalone is a bit Exy and inflexible for my liking, but stability... cmon..it's head and shoulders above and nothing anyone can say will change my mind. The race for HDD storage is no longer on so HDD's are much more stable than they were, sheesh Seagate offer 5 year now and with a buffer onboard so critisizing IDE really doesn't work, although I do agree that SCSI is better but who uses it these days, it's still too expensive excepting servers. Bottom of a long line..... Standalone = idiot proof stable and expensive. PC = excellent features...speed and if supported well, easy to change dynamically as well as networking better. It is a personal choice that should be offered with a simple question...."how pc literate are you on a scale of 1 to 10?" if lower than 5 ...only a standalone will do! Another way to look at it... some people havean XBOX and love to use it.. these are standalone users and some will put Linux on it and format it and use it as their networked multimedia system and network it to file servers they have in other rooms.. these are PC people... pC people need tos ee things change..they need to improve things..they need the latest and the best...Standalone users are the guys that are happy to go to the store and PAY for the gameand use it how it is meant to be used...sure they will get ripped..sure it's expensive.. but it wont ever fail them. Having said that it is important to note I refer to end users...not Installers, lets face it Rory loves embedded but I bet he would change his Xbox if he had time to do so between posts.

Starting to build DVR systems, helpful insight requested
cctv_down_under replied to AMI's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Personally would not be using a Athlon, several reasons would be chipset and cooling, make sure those HDD's are in cooling bays and use a decent HARDWARE raid controller, good to see you raiding it up though... not many do -
Never tried PC Express cards, got outa Geo before they launched... as for good vid cards, from experience radeon's (with a bloody fan) are good without DSP and Geforce with DSP, get the latest and dont skimp, both have scaling renderer support and de-interlace as well as hardware overlay support. I do beleive (but have no proof) that vid card chips are a bit like CCD's Sony only release lower pixel count ones to competition and I firmly believe Radeon to do the same, so buy name brand and you should do good!

Thats interesting.. I can vouch for that, I am the same... As for dongle... Dongle=S1 Chip in some cases.. if you have working 6.1 without S1 it is possible you already had the chip or you have the One Beta copy that did work with 6.1 without dongle.. simply try recording in JPEG then use webviewer to look at logs, if it wont work, you have the Beta as this was a bug. Clones are possible..always a good sign of a good product once it's cloned...PS everyone seen the Bosch Clones coming out now!

1/ What is the video card you are using? 2/ kingston ram..although lifetime warranty has had many fualts.. stress test it.. also what is the ram speed ability and what is the bus speed set to. 3/ Is it the complete system that reboots or just the software... if only happens when recording, try another slot, not the lowest or top slot, try backing off the threshold of the CPU so it doesn't work as hard..celerons dont have the cache but it's only a 600 card so should not be an issue. 4/ Disable the watch dog. 5/ EVENT MANAGER is your FRIEND it will hold the answer to the reboot, look at the warnings and logs of event manager in windows and you should find the problem. My guess is wrong slot or heat causing bios to reboot the system or ****ty ram!!

Hell thats new...not sure if cards have changed but make sure you have connected the ribbon cable between DSP and Capture card
-
Only new, think this is old version http://www.boschsecurity.com/au/en/start/product.htm?dibos

assuming that that this is the new hardware compression card...been a while I was one of Geo's main disributors...no improvement, well none noticeable.

restarting computer???
cctv_down_under replied to Sanra's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Could be a lot of reasons... firstly.. older versions of Geo used to reboot...ONLY GEO software not full post boot..when a camera was activated inthe system but appeared to be not present, this was a safety feature to redetect the missing camera, main reason was there was no decent gain control and the chips required 1.1V peak to Peak instead of 1V Peak to Peak, so what would happen is that cheaper cameras or weaker signals would cause drop outs and then the software would reboot to try to pick it up again. This was changed in later versions. Cheack that you havent set the system to reboot once a day, secondly make sure you are not using a Via chipset and check for video data corruption...are you recording to seprate partition, if so , dig into video drive and do a thumbnail preview of the folder with the date withing the folder for the camera eg date...inside cam001.. if you get no preview on the yellow folder then open folder to play files, probably only one file and corrupt...cure is a UPS with shutdown. geo copies files into memory and power outs or signal loss cause corruptions, evry common, there is a database recovery tool, but it rarely works. Go to the Event Manager in windows and look for exclamation marks of crashes, you should see what time it reboots as you will see the system load up, but if no shut down logged, then it is a hardware crash and then you need to examine deeper! -
Hearing so much about both iview and kalatel remote software, can someone post a link to download and a sit to connect, i wanna test it

Fiber options is good gear, be carefull which type of fibre you get, if you wanted to you could go for a 30ch Bosch DVR it also has 32 I.P. inputs, so then you could convert standard cams to I.P. traffic and could have 62 Cameras in one box! when quoting fibre you can have an extenal can or a internal (in housing) design.

Ok so I have had a few drinks but what about this for a idea
cctv_down_under posted a topic in General Digital Discussion
We are all in same game and excepting standards of video, if we could all agree on the same equipment, we could all share in a website and spin it well, we could all pay for stock at the same time (if we all used similar product) and our buying power would be HUGE if we all contributed to advertising we would have the best buying group and one of the first semi global security companies in the world... or I could just be a bit tipsy LOL -
Help with this DVR Card
cctv_down_under replied to Gobal's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Have you Port Forwarded the Router? -
Actually, when i think about more where you are, i see your point, however i had a laugh to myself, thinking about a jeep climbing a wall and an awning to run..upside down over a dome, perhaps you should stop mounting them on the road and start attaching them to buildings etc... i think we realise your market is very different to most i mean those prices you keep stating about Bosch..many people in here have told you time and again that the prices arenet anything like that..but yes...we know... you have to pay duties ect.. but that info can be misleading.. Hey horses for courses, i am sure Extreme would not attach their name to something that wasn't good and 5yrs is tops, and if it is as rugged as all that then go for it.. mind you I must say Bosch or Pano or Samsung sound a lot better than Extreme and Wizkid, and makes it easier to justify pricing.

Rory, I have used wide dynamic cameras many times over in a bar, especially a wine bar or mood bar, you have to be able to see the contrast differences, i can think of a few well lit bars (the bar itself) that cause havoc because the rest of the room is dark. Also lighting changes a hell of a lot in a club (usually), i agree that B/W looks awesome in low light, but why not try to stay in colour if you can, honestly mate if you saw these cams, you might change your view, As the exclusive agent for Extreme's Fantastic IR gear, we barely sell it anymore as it is simply just not needed as much. Anyhow back to the point, obviously a PTZ is way overkill but that Pan Tilt Standard dome I listed at the top of the page is rather cost effective indeed, but I have to agree with Metz, Ganz is good for the price and very low failure rates.

We are actually the exclusive distributors of Extremes full range here in Australia, but had no Idea there was a 5yr warranty, will check this out as I doubt it... it is possible that every country has different OEM extreme gear. MCS dont stress bout Rory, it's his job to always disagree with me, and mine to always be the salesman...welcome to the forum! I actually like the look of the domes, they do look better in real life, but I have been told my taste is in my but so go figure! If vandal proof and 120pounds of pressure resistant aint enough, then, hell I'd be moving residence

Jack signs a song called "F - Stop Blues" is this related to cameras at all and lenses... who knows.. he also signs "slow down people your moving to fast, FRAMES can't catch you when your'e moving like that" and "frame lines tell me what to see" anyone????

IP Software?

Actually the line reads.. "clouds bring the F-Stop Blues"

I can, it is called over expected growth due to high demand, it is no excuse, however as new comers to the industry they probably did not realise how much demand there would be for their products and it takes time to get more people etc.
