I DID manage to crash a store safe, wehn I tested it, mind you I certainly tried pretty hard to do so, I happen to know that DM failure rates were very high when the ol "death star" or Desk Star drives were being used, in truth I have heard the GE stuff is pretty darn stable and have been told that by manyt hat sell them. i think i was just unlucky that the one I got was ex demo and out of the reps car, I concur that most standalone faults are from misuse! or HDD failure.. Not floggin it but you dont need any download at all or software for the Bosch standalone, only need to enable Active X, mind you cant see how it works that way, but unless the computers I tried had it already, there is nothing to load. I liek all three units, the GE is very very very easy to navigate once learnt, but a pain at first, it has some great features, but needs a good software polish.. not features, just prettying it up a little

Hard to say, I would almost say there is moisture in a housing, causing condensing, is steam involved at all or heat or cold

Apparently Desa is not a Bosch product.. rather a Re-Badge.. odd that they would do that.. but so be it.. I had heard it was pretty lame! -

The best drives for affordable price are Seagate.. they warranty them for 5 years, the main problems are as rory has suggested, using an adequate TRUE WAVE pwer supply to keep the voltage regulated and a UPS device with Buck and Boost technology will definately extend the life of your drive.. mind you the most common reason for a drive to fail other than physical parking of heads... is stupidly mounting them one on top of each other. In the race for speed we created heat and drives need a space between them unless in coolong bays or with an adequate fan in front of them... once I chnged to antec cases I felt comfortable stacking them on top of each other because they were Sata....less airflow blockage .. and a onster fan was in front of the device. Try seagate..use a good case and dont mount them on top of themselves!

Its nothing to do with a relay, it has to do with he connection to XP to shut down the machine...what you need is a rackmount ups controller that speaks to each device over etehernet, this way all devices shut down on a command signal... and yes the previous sposter is right, the batteries that connect to it to give you extra time do not have to be rack mounted as basicaly they are huge car batteries (well not really) so you get more value out of tower connectors, mind you rackmounted batteries look much nicer, you could get a tower UPS as well if you use tower batteries but make sure it can shut down each machine

My home system........Am I on the right track?
cctv_down_under replied to vic_salve's topic in System Design
Vic... you stated you did not want to record, well then you really dont need a DVR.. my suggestion is 1/ Run all cameras to the room you want to look from, pipe them into a 8channel switcher, buy one with a remote control so you can change the input, then put the input of this into a RF modulator so that every room can see it through the telly. The advantage is... save heaaps in cost.. switchers are next to nothing, the way it will work is, on your AV input in the bedroom telly you can view every camera, on every other telly in the house it rotates through the pictures, unless you buy a 4ch RF modulator. This is the most cost effective and allows you to be able to spend more money on teh important thing, lower light cameras, one last note.. thomas is right.. run UTP, FIG8 24020 cable and RG59 to each camera, no doubt things will change later and having spare cat5 with slack will never be a waste. Dont use ****ty cameras it will only cost you the same as they will not look as good as time goes by. -
One last thing, you are looking at a compressed image so of course it loks worse.. but me thinks your still out of focus, its very hard to focus on a DVr and even worse if the video source is set to 320x240 as you are stretching the image you are trying to focus, try to set it up on an anologue monitor to get the best result, you can alwaays get a 12v Monitor and use your dril battery to power it while you are up the ladder. Also keep in mind, wide angle = less detail!!
-
Quite simply you are out of focus, I made a promosie not tobe so Bosch, but pardon me as this solution could be avoided, the pana can move the sensor back and fro and can be done to suit your field of view and lighting, what is in focus during the day may be aeasily out of focus at night, this is whay a back focus needs to be doen with a filter to simulate night time and the Auot Iris level needs to be adjusted to what it would be at night. The Bosch cam simulates this during the day so that you do not need to do this, this means it simultes the Iris fully open and pretends a filter has been placed at teh front, this means the focus you set by day.. when in this mode is the same focus you get at night. My sugestion is to use the pana auto adjust senser but do it at night or use a ND filter. there is no substitute for a quality lens and from those pictures any cam should have heaps of light, infact you almost need to set a wide dynamic range and peak stteings as you have quite a bit of light in that image. Just focus the cam at night and use the function that moves the CCD to accomodate for auto back focus, you should get a better result then, you migt also find that backing the wide angle off ever so slightly may help to increase the ability of the lens.

I am not about to start a debate on the whole Oil thing, but one thing for sure ..there are no weapons now and a ****load of OIL, well the oil keeps coming out and still no weapons??? I think we all did the right thing but it wasnt only to get rid of Saddam, it was in my opinion about OIL as well, after all, they secured the OIL fields first and Saddam tried to destroy them. Doesnt matter anyhow, there is NO justification for loss of inncocent lives and Terror is Cowardice!! One thing though... I recently got asked by a 6 yr old Kid.... "why did they blow up the trains?" I answered in truth that it was bad men doing bad things in order to scare people "why do they want to scare people" because they think they can stop people living their lives in normal peace " did we stop them from living in normal peace? we didnt go to their place and blow them up so why did they blow up them trains?" Makes it kind of hard to justify... and worse.. what will i say to my children when they grow up to ask "so we thought they had mass weapons and they didnt and we killed 1000's of people. how could you let that happen daddy?" look I know they were up to no good, but if the cops raid your place looking for smoking gun and they dont find it and they leave you alone.. all well and good but if they dont find it and hang out in your house rasing hell...well id be pissed too. But never pissed enough to take innocent lives and spread panic world wide, this is cowardice.. pure cowardice and I hope they are all captured and excecuted. i know this is mostly a US Forum so please don't hate me for my comments... I just think that no one does something like this unless there is pure hatred or a major objective, no one kills for killing sake.. there has to be a reason.. a statement and if the bastards can organise this then they should be able to organise Television type statements to staet why they are doing it..\ The will never be a justifictaion for terrorism... NEVER but I would hate for a fellow Australian or Relative to Die without fully understanding why it was done.. yYu cowards have my attention so speak the hell up or i support you all being hunted down like animals. -

I must admit from what I have seen there are many cameras, it is a bold effort to try to avoid them. Lets face it the Brits have some of the best Intel around, they will know who did the deed, but finding them will be hard. What a story about Mrs.C, very relieved, I would like to know how many have reported in so far and whom we are still waiting on, to put our minds at ease. I sadly tend to agree that they will never stop unless they are wiped out completely or drastic unrealistic measures are taken. (I would never want this to happen) I do not agree with the following idea...however this is a suggestion bandied about that worked to stop a lot of terrorism in USSR. They think they are gods after doing suicide bombs, they often get rewards for their families for money and it is considered godly to die in the cause and they are worshipped for it. The ruskies decided enough was enough (or so I have been told) they decided if a suicide bomber does his bit then they execute every relative in his immediate family, they may not care about their own lives but they may stop to think about their families. I dont agree with it and I dont know what else we can do... hell I am not even convinced yet that the US didnt make it all up just to get Oil Reserves and lets face it if someone came here accused us of mass weapons, took our resources and killed in the process, hell i would be pretty pissed. I dont think thats the case nor do I see the USSR way as the answer, but something dramatic has to be done to stop this from always happening. -

This is Outragous, If the objective was to kill people yes they have succeeded, but their objective to disrupt and destroy the way of life of people in the civilised world, they will fail! The British are incredibly strong people and have some of the best intel in the whole world, Britan will not stand for this and more discussions will happen at the G8 against terrorism. Bloody Cowards, I mean they really are pathetic! There was 10,000 people in the square they day earlier waiting to hear the Olympic Decision.. this could have been a lot worse. I wish the pathetic losers would never do these things but whoever did is doing it to say something... "well get your ass on air and say it...dont make people die! and worse dont make people die without reason" Security Stock went up intsantly, lets hope we catch these cold blooded killers and we stay united as the civilised world. My heart goes out to all affected by this tragedy and also to the islamic innocent people living the UK... bloody bastards even bombed a station that has a strong living poulation of Islam Hermy I assume we PM'd the UK guys? -
I just wanna know one thing..... who here has an ol case on their pc that they keep open so they can easily change things? Thts the defining factor on whether your a geek or not, if you dont have sides on your case!

H.264 is an old compression that looks like making new advances.. every compression has its ups and downs... MPEG4 sends only the moving bits to the next frame, but thats not great for PTZ's etc etc.. Fact is we really cant fit raw video yet, so unless storage increases, and my bets is it will... especially on flash roms (we WILL see flash roms taking the size of HDD's in the next few years with smaller than a finger in size) and tis will help as this will be built into the cameras, once bandwidth is big enough we will ALL be selling wireless network cameras with built in storage... forget the DVR, forget the HDD arrays, it will all be IN the camera it will all be solar powered it will all be configurable over the web and it will all be controlled from your home PC. All that will happen is you will go to KMART you will buy a camera and it will be configured ONLINE.. if you want to know my true belief this is what will really happen. Foxtel will sell plug ins for its digital television service, these will be alarm panels.. food ordering and CCTV, they will store and record media, they will charge $1 for a movie and it will all be wireless, you will ahve one BOX, that recieves digatal free to air TV networks your recording cameras, acts as your alarm system, works as a router for your internet and plays your media from flash sticks

really don't mean to be BOB, but i do know more than the average guy so it makes it hard when you know you have a good product.. mind you a forum is that... a forum and I think those points are valid...I used to get so ****ty at rory over his beloved GE so I know i need to pull my head in and I will!! -
What people need to realise is that all the frame rates for PCI type bpards are based on 320x240... so your DVR does 640x480... well on 16 cams.. say goodbye to about 40% of the rated frame rate.. and if your up against a standalone capable of doing 768x576 (these are PAL ratings) then really your losing about 65% of what you started with.. PCI bus speeds limit the ability for multiple high res streams, this is the limit and the handbrake of PC based systems other than I.P. Remmeber that i.P. is compressed at the camera so there is no limit..(other than your bandwidth) to the speed you can recieve at..no hardare limitation past the camera. To be honest I find 5fps a bit wanting when an intruder is running, but the truth is that the majority of high end installers cater for less than 50FPS Total frame rate.. the reason... "it's stable at this speed!!!" and they can do the larger res at this speed. we have all lost the aim of the most crucial thing.... prosecution counts on evidence and evidence alone.. it doesnt care if you can count traffic, it doesnt care if you can draw maps, it cares that you can identify the intruder and that calls for larger res or more cameras, and both are rare in todays market. I think the major players have not lost sight of this, but the smaller companies ahve used features to sell their products

OR another DVR replaced it and they just dont want it... i have lost count of how many of my competitors DVR's i have now, simply as they just want to get rid of it for the latest and greatest... mind you bit weird to make that decision on a good product like the StoreSafe... I might bid on it myself

Yeh k boys, i'll tone it down.. must admit I do sound a bit like a walking advertisement these days.. shame of it is, I am sure you know I am pretty honest.. Hell i promote Pana and Dallmier and ikegami aswell, but worst part as a sales person is when you do get to sell the best product because then its hard to tell if your advertising or simply telling the truth.. Truth is Bosch camears are really really good and the best I have seen, and I do get looked after by them, but there is always good stuff around the corner and we are not as competitive on DVR's as we are on cameras. i do realise that this is a forum and not a place to spam, so i'll pull my head in, but honestly boys. if I had seen this cameras before i worked for bosch... they would still be being highly spoken off by my loud mouth. -

hay Thomas i like the idea of a seperate webserver, thats excellent, that means you can take the resource load of the machine if it is being connected to by toomany machines? also means you can put that machine outside and in a safe area for security? Great work.. If i ever leave Bosch and i do doubt it, i will start my own business and you have my word that the first product i will try to import will be yours.. can you email me the GUI> Shame Bosch is so good that I dont want leave!! -

You have got to try the Sony I.P. camera PTZ it is great for the price, but the control softwrae is a little XE -
SIS chip will work fine for versions under GV650, after that the Hint Bridge controller comes into play, depending on the version of the SIS chip it can be ok to use one, and yes there is a Patch, but I have never used it, the problem will come when the nrth bridge needs to talk to the hintbridge at fast data speeds... IE all cameras going at one time, then you can have unstable systems. i would stear clear of SIS as it is a crappy chipset anyhow
