which compression is best mpeg1 or mpeg 4 for remote viewing
cctv_down_under replied to dvrsnoop's topic in General Digital Discussion
It depends on what you are after, most use Mpeg4 because of the small size of files that are transmitted. Mpeg2 would be ideal but its just too much data to send. -
Help with remote transmission speeds...please help...
cctv_down_under replied to dvrsnoop's topic in General Digital Discussion
There is a difference in speeds per DVR, however, most will happily gobble up the bandwidth that is available to it. Some DVR's will let you throttle bandwidth to adjust the size of the data that is sent, the most important thing to consider is exactly that... some compressions are larger in file size than others, so therefore you get faster speeds from these different compressions if their file sizes are smaller when compressed. I cant speak for what speeds you would need because each country has different performance in internet speeds, depending on how much sharing of the line occurs, but you can work it out by saving one compressed frame and measuring the file size then multiply x 25 this will give you 25FPS file size then multiply by number of cameras and this will give you the upspead data stream that you need to achieve real time transmition, but unless your broadcasting a movie or something, you really can afford to drop a frame or two That measuremnt is not entirely true in some cases, for example some forms of MPEG4 will only transmit the moving parts of the picture and overlay it on the previous frame. and some only transmit when motion occurs, but it will give you a worse case scenario answer -
Hard to tell but can you tell us the following 1/ What is the length of each Run 2/ What type of connectors are you using. 3/ Are the cameras in a housing at all and is there any electronics in the housing. 4/ What size is the power supply what is the load of each camera? 5/ 12V or 24V? 6/ Count the strands in the power part of the cable and tell us how many there are. Mate hard to tell fromt eh footage but the camer looks like it is brocken, although it also looks like a power problem, I would guess that the first thing to do would be to check the voltage at the camera end I would check the cable, may just be poor power cable..(very few strands). I would then unplug each camera and plug them into a TV that definately works to eliminate the DVR, Place your hand on the power supply and see if it is searing hot (overloaded).

25 fps realtime recording across 6-8 cameras ?

Be wary too because some manufactorers count fileds instead of frames and it has the same abbreviation FPS -
Comparision to Geovision and Surelabs products
cctv_down_under replied to AliB's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
In this case ...I am incorrect...You can not use generic cards with Geo anymore they now have a new S1 dongle chip and it prevents it, Do not get me started on this subject as this is a massive headache that Geo has now introduced that many dealers of Geo will sonn have to face with massive expense to the distributor but that is another story... my suggestion is to list the features of surelab and I can compare them to Geo -

pc restarts
cctv_down_under replied to Timvette's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The no camera conencted reboot only reboots Geo not a machine, I would say either your video card or mainboard is struggling with load or perhaps wrong drivers, could be a chipset problem too, try an intel chipset if not already and re install the geo sofware -

Multi user for geovision main system and Win xp
cctv_down_under replied to Noon's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Install geo on both accounts, run a process montior that starts Geo everytime it is not running, you could use fire daemon, but not the free version as it hogs some memory resources used by Geo for some apps, you could test the freeware though to test the theory.. running the process monitor should make geo always be on, but will be hard if your using it for other work like word etc, you will have to disable the process montior and exit every time you want to do something else -
Many softwrae POS packages now use Geo for example quest is a hardware software POS package that integrates with Geo but only needs ethernet access so you can achieve much longer runs

25 fps realtime recording across 6-8 cameras ?
cctv_down_under replied to paranoid's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I dont know where you got that Info from Ali, but is wrong, you can have full access to setup as many times as you like without licensing.. as for 30/25FPS this is only achievable with todays architecture...unless using hardware compression.. at smaller resolutions.. depending on hardware you lose about 25% at large resolutions -
Remote demo is excellent qulaity and has option for large resolution, it is very nice na dhas search of logs feature built in to web interface

Rory, yo keep saying you cant get only one DVR, I have never seen a manufactorer that will not give 1 as a sample, but if you have to pay too much tax then this makes sense

GV-650-8 Specs?
cctv_down_under replied to yipster's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
At home at the moment, will post a link when I get to work if I rememeber, you are correct about need of frame rate but lots of robberies happen with people running, and the faster the frame rate the more frames you get so more chance of that one good shot. over here you can not sell a 50FPS DVR (60FPS)..pal does less frames, I think that is the main reason standalones do not sell as much here -
GV-650-8 Specs?
cctv_down_under replied to yipster's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I would consider 60FPS a little slow over 16 cameras, it may barely be acceptable over 8 cameras. In most PC based systems the 60FPS would be divided by the number of cameras..so yes 7.5FPS Per Camera, but Geo is slightly different.. they take unused frames from cameras that are not detecting movement at some time and then pass it by preference to the ones that are detecting movement, so you can have faster than 7.5 FPS. There are quite a few Standalone DVR's that do 480 FPS on recording, I know of at least three of them that are out there now, however they certainly are not cheap. The DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Card, makes your display 480FPS, it also improves viewable quality by around 40%, but it does not affect the recording at all, it also provides a Multiplexed output without the GUI on another screen. Personally I hardly ever sell a 60FPS card anymore, those speeds are usually only used on standalone devices these days, but I hear that it is not as important in some countries, but here the slowest cards sold are usually 100FPS when going for more than 8 cameras. Hope this helps GC -
I know your after WD but have you tried the Ganz, daynight dome
-
techwin has better range because they do not make them all, rebadged.. not that this is a bad thing, but I have heard this as a rumour only... but seen first hand the failure rate, many people who were buying them.. now buy Ganz from me! I mean 480 TVL CS Mount for $121 US, now thats reasonable for japanese quality

I heard the head honcho's split and Techwin bout some manufactoring companies out after selling OEM as samsung, I ahev seen teh diffeence and heard the reports, i would stear well clear of Techwin, although samsung electronics is pretty darn good

Ceneter version 2 works ok over internet, make sure you create the accout first in the Cenetr sogftwrae and be sure you turn on Center version2 not center version 1... as for multiple accounts, in Geo you can have as many as you want, but why not set your user that you want to have access. as the defualt log in so it is always him then juts log in and out when you want to use yours? I am not sure what the problem with doing this is for you, but if you explain more I may be able to help -
Yes Samsung Electronics and Techwin are two completely different companies, I could be wrong but they are competing against each other, I think Techwin just gets oem and rebadged it while electronics is true manufactorer, i have seen both and they are chalk and cheese, Techwin much worse and less price.. i have heard very bad things about failure rate, but by god they are cheap. It is pretty hard to go past the Ganz WD It uses the Sony IT sensor, Dsusan i would be interesed to hear you report on it. http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/cams/csmount/csm_pdf/CamZC_Y30NH4.pdf
