    Geovision GV-1000

Couple of things... 1/ You will not achieve real time recording at 640x480 only 320x240, that is UNTIL Geo releases its new Hybrid Board (POOP did I let the cat out of the bag again), no system unless usuing hardware onboard compression will achieve that at such a resolution. 2/ I would go for an optimised Mem Stick that has dual DDR channel technology, do not know Muskin but I know Corsair sells Twin X. 3/ I would go for a GIG of ram, the ram is what works hardest when you connect to the system remotely 4/ I have never tried a samsung HDD I would stick to a Seagate one with the buffer. Just my two cents

    Prescott PSUs?

Tom is spot on, it is not really about performance, more about reliability, simple software can be explained fast especially when you make cheat sheets etc, but going inside a machine to test something, well that just takes an age!

    Camera for hallways and backlight

The Ganz Wide Dynamic is about the best at this in that price range or the day/night digital from Sunkwang, either way you are going to want a camera that has on screen programmable Back Light Zones

    Prescott PSUs?

I agree with that... the prescott is not worth the extra bucks and when benchmarked the performance gained compared to the generated heat is really not worth it

    Computer power supplies

I have never heard of them, but I am not saying that Antec are the ducks nuts either, they are just good value for money and have a low failure rate

    Can Geovision starts as service?

Steve is right.. but if you need to log on in windows, you might want to run a script for that, I used to run Fire Daemon to do it as a service, but that was more so that if anyone closed it, it would automatically start up again.

    PTZ cameras

You dont need to buy expensive PTZ's for indoors, we sell one here for $344 US Keyboard controller and dome auto iris with pan, it only has digital zoom, but at that price, it is cheap to put in like 16 and have them all on tours... as far as creepy goes, I have cameras everywhere, still waiting on someone to emial me a picture of myself picking my nose or something like that... 4 PTZ's and 16 Cameras all in one room about 2 foot from my desk, very scary indeed.
  16. Part of the problem is that you are using a low res camera, change your video source to 640x480 SW the SW stands for Sotware Interlace, also make sure your video card supports hardware overlay before turning it on, you will probably find you diod not have this option ticked by defualt, should fix some of the problem

    PTZ cameras

Correct thomas, would not work to well with traffic areas, by hardware you can define the length it goes and stops in one area nad you can set by software the priority of each area and the dwell time.. Example. Customer walks to front entrance doorway, above him/her is a zoom cam.. not pan tilt but just zoom, as he reaches the door, zoom adjusts because motion mask was set for it and gets a facial shot then returns its view to panoramic. Small PTZ indoors, customer walks to front counter of the shop, PTZ has motion set for this area and spins this way.. customer walks client to showroom, motion zones on the way follow both, assistant goes back to geta pen, so now two different directions.. you can choose either a few seconds on each or by priority of your zones, so because higher priority is at the front of the shop the cam swings back with the assistant...customer goes through doorway into office.. not supposed to be there, motion or hardware sends PTZ to this spot and stays with him as it is prioritised zone.. It is not foolprrof and already works with sensormatic domes and Geovision.

    Mulitple monitors with Geo

It is the interlacing that is the problem, fsome video cards support it some dont, it is the hardware overlay that is causing the pink screens, make sure your card supports it, plug in the monitor before booting up the machine...it must be detected on boot.. also rather than the DSP card, simply buy a cheap (looping) switcher, this way you can choose what is on other monitor and unless he wants to control it (stop the sequence) it is no more cabling at all, juts mount it on the top of the DVR.. if he wants control, then it is more cabling and the DSP would be more suited. Three choices.... Coverted mirror image from vid card.. ......DSP card, (no GUI also real time + massive picture improvement) ... cheap looping switcher

    Geovision Problems

Also check that you are using the right fly leads for each input, they are colour coded and must be in right order

    PTZ cameras

There is new motion tracking coming out on some DVR's what they do is use a wide angled panoramic dome or other camera then use the PTZ looking at the same scene, set them to see the same thing and then the PTZ recognises the differences in pixel movement and moves to those locations.. it actually is pretty darn cool, also the new zoom on pixel movement is awesome, you can set zones so that when someone enters that zone the PTZ zooms to pre defined area, very handy!!... Some cameras have the protocol run up the coax which took me ages to find out, they then use a menu system

6mm or 12mm which displays more of a picture?

We sell a Korean OEM, glass is bought from CBC (Computar) and it is good but still also sell the Computar brand, they are pretty darn good.
