IP Camera Systems
cctv_down_under replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
AVTech sells a web server that goes with the 4ch Standalone?? really if your going to get into an expensive PTZ (merit lilin is about the cheapest) you really are better off witha webserver, mind you the I.P. stuff has improved, the new Sony is quite good indeed, but for me I would rather have a more pwerfull camera than a suite of softwrare, after all you are trying to watch the image!!! -
6mm or 12mm which displays more of a picture?
cctv_down_under replied to Tim's topic in Security Cameras
I just had a closer look at the PDF for those lenses that were low light and yes they are varifocal and aspherical, I would really like someone to shed some light on this topic for me (pardon the pun) as I think there might be more I need to know, my understanding was this: Because the lens does the task of focussing luminesence and chrominance onto the CCD, The difference between spherical and aspherical is that one is more perfectly ground than the other as the spherical is more likely to have abhorations at the edge making for a lens shape that is not tottaly optically correct.. This would mean that less of the aperture of the lens can be used therefore less light would fall onto the sensor, of course some CCD's have differnt shaped parts of the CCD like the X View for instance it has a rounded pixel shape to illiminate the gaps represented by square pixels so that more of an area can recieve light, I think this sensor also has a second glass coating that magnifies the light onto the pixels.. but once again I could be wrong and back to the lens.... I think Asherical lenses are ground on both sides so that it can achieve a more accurate defraction of the light therefore having a more accurate focal point. With the faults that may be on the edge of a sphercal lens you an use less of the lens to get the accurate axis from light that passes from not only the barriers of the lens but the edges as well and this would I assume lead to more light being on a sensor, hence the low light ability increase. I think it comes down to the ability for the lens to provide enough lighting to the sensor at low light levels to make the camera represent a signal that is close to 1V Pk to Pk, I think you would find using a daynight camera with a spherical lens would make this representation more like .8V under low light In all honesty the lens makes a big difference and I think the asphericals from Computar have a tint on them from memory (bloody better learn ..I have sold enough of them).. In reality the darker it gets the further you will get from 1V PK to PK so the camera may still have a resonable signal but may drop off the colour representation when dropping, so a good camera choice would be good as well, I find it hard to go past the Ganz wide Dynamic for this type of application. Anyhow, like I said I may be worng so anyone who knows more about this I would be very intersted to find out the right truth. -

OOps maybe your right... showing my lack of knowledge...LOL...We sell a 3.5 to 10.5 Computar, they are specially made for low light cameras and day night in particular, I just assumed the reason was because they were aspherical, but maybe your right... makes sense...poop...still have a lot to learn about cameras -

IP Camera Systems
cctv_down_under replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Why not just use standard cameras and a webserver, the AVtech one costs less than $100 US, this allows you to do the very basics and is quite good, resoltion is fairly small though. -
The new Taianese made one from Ganz should fall in that price bracket

cctv_down_under replied to Tim's topic in Security Cameras
the higher the number the narrower the angle and the further away the focal point, most people use varifcal lenses for this reason, if you have troubles with this I suggest using a viewfinder, this is a small device that you can look through and adjust to get the right scene size then you know what to use...you could always use a mathmatical conversion to work it out and here is a chart for you, keep in mind it differs by sensor size. I have a small lens calculator .exe file if you want it, just PM me and I can give it to you -
Actually it will probably do both "Suck and Blow" Hope you get through it ok Rory

Two reasons, Most good Monitors have a longer life as they are DESIGNED to run 24Hrs a day where a TV is not.. the second reason is that a Monitor usually has higher TV Lines so the resolution is better and lastly a Monitor correctly terminates a signal where not all TV's will.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please
cctv_down_under posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have customer that wants his DVR to be controllable and viewable on a 80cm or 34 Inch Composite TV, the only inputs are SVIDEO and Standard Composite! He has tried the secondary output of the Video Card but obviously it is poor quality, has anyone seen a CRT Monitor that is 37" and has DVI or XVGA inputs or does anyone know of a REALLY GOOD (not the cheapo garb) XVGA to composite converter that will give reasonable results... I am stumped on this one! Oh and YES RORY I know a standalone will do this!!!! -

You will pay more for the GE than the Geo, but both are good, Geo has many more features and control centres are free compared to GE, but like I said both are good

depends on what you are after...Baxhall makes some good cameras that have inversion, this blocks out the white from headlights, havent tried it but I have heard it is pretty good, the best one to use would have to be the Japanese Wide Dynamic by Ganz, you can set the area for wide dynamic and has electronic shutter speeds and programable back light compensation, so covers everything, best part is that it sees colour at low light.. http://www.cbcamerica.com/cctvprod/ganz/cams/csmount/csindex.html model is ZCR-WDR -

I sell the AVTech one, it is very basic but the cheapest on the market at $100US as for the merit one, looks Identical to the one that we bought from Vidog, actually think i might still have some in stock, they were pretty reasonable but not all that impressive, I am still looking for a decent 16ch one that does not cost too much, awaiting on some samples from Sungjin, they look pretty impressive -

Very wrong indeed, I like good products, I hate the way geo does business and if there was a better product I would drop them in a heartbeat! In honesty I cwould love to change from the dishonest way that geo does business but unfortunately I cant becuase they still are the best, hay as I said the Kalatel is the second best DVR I have seen in standalone and I do not change my opinion on that. I like to be honest.. Hell Is ell Ganz and it is awesome, but not a patch on Ikegami or Sanyo and I sell neither of these. I just doen make false statements about things that I know nothing about.. PC Machines are stable and you know it.. but everytime someone suggest it in here you slag it off as unstable and breakable.. you slag off at windows all the time and you are wrong... by slagging off at PC based machines you carry that garbage hype that people spread and it affects business so why can I not slag your product off? -
Why not just use something like Geo has, there is a built in FTP client, you can write your own simple script to refresh it

He prolly wants customer to use remote to get a channel, if less than 4 cameras you could use a 4 ch switcher that has a remote, then imput on AV channel and use the remote to change channels -
