firebird is good, but does not install active x or Java on install, I use Firebird at home, love the tab feature, but it lacks in handling MPEG4 streaming. Embedded XP is a good option and shelling out exploreer is also positive, power management and cpu throttling also helps, THERE IS NO NEED FOR A VIRUS PROTECTION WITH A GOOD LINUX FIREWALL using an xbox you can run Linux as a firewall for a limited cost

don't think i hav ever dissagreed with any post by Thomas.. right on again.. Thomas can I get a sample price on one of your cards?

Why does everyone seem to like GeoVision?
cctv_down_under replied to avpe's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
To be honest, I agree with Rory to some extent, if yo want to buy standalone then going with a name brand ensures you get the best, but some of the name brands are way overpriced, if you go PC you risk buying form some back yarder, but if you go to a good PC place they should make good DVR's the problem is that security comapnies make bad DVR's.. and PC companies choose bad cams, it would be wise to buy your cams form a security company and your PC based DVr's from a computer company -
Maybe your right, I try to post a lot but too busy selling to always be posting.. money comes first.. entertainment later

Yep.. on that budget I would go the dodgy standalone, it may be more stable, but your features will be lacking
-
I still get them too.. Might be ME?

Feedback on Samsung/Digital Watchdog DVR's

What is the link? -
You could easily do that, but you would need a 4ch standalone, I could do it for that price, 4 B/W cams with Infa red, and a 4ch standalone with motion detection, there would be no way to expand to 16 though
-
you would only use the extreme stuff if you had the budget for it, i have seen it and it is rock solid! With Extreme it is really worth the extra bucks, I can not justify paying big bucks for cameras like GE that are overpriced just for a name sake, but Extreme I know you get what you pay for!

Running Line through a home
cctv_down_under replied to RPACIO's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Thats right.. really depends, if it were my house I would run Fibre, then you can use it for networking and cameras and everything else, I would only do this in a house as joins and cable are expensive so short runs would be ok.. the added advantage is no interference, so its not a problem to share pipes -
P.s. I wouldn't care how much I got paid to work there, the main point is the soccer is there so who cares

I dont think that anyone was bashing this site, I found it a worthwile read, Iw as disturbed at the factual content on DVR technology as it is very outdated indeed, the biased towards analogue would be driven by the UK market, but a lot of the poits he made on Digital were outdated and no longer correct.. as for you post.. I have heard of this problem before, an example is when you have to prove that a door was closed at a certain time, and show the evidence, failing to do so can make a case not as strong, however your statement above seems to be missing one vital point, by usuing a stepper motor on time lapse you are not really recording very fast, so could that not only be considered slower than a lot of motion detected devices, therfore you could miss vital evidence, it is also much harder to prove that it has not been edited with analogue, compared to digital watermaking features... My complaint was not really of his site, more that he failed to mention the features that DVr has, like control room, where video is sent to a remote site, or Audio, and remote control, it was disturbing to read such praise and detail for analogue solutions but not read about the advantages of a digital system, liek object searching or, counting aspplications, or licence plate recognition, or stagnant objects, or frame buffering, or multicasting or the lack of ned to change tapes, digital zooming, email, paging, sms, phone support, PDA etc etc, It is a great site but if he goes into so much detail about how much better analogue is he should make sure he poits out the positives of both.

Sunkwang sell some cool submergable day night cameras that may do the trick for you, or you could go for the Ganz IP67 cameras that can be sprayed with a hose, Sunkwang also make a cool and cheap day night cam with full onscreen configuration, it is on my website if you want to take a look. http://www.altechvision.com you could use the counter application in Geo to count the cars, Version 6.1 also allows you make alarms if traffic goes the wrong way as well... car in reverse for example. 6.1 really rocks, way too much in it though, I just got the Infa Red controller the other day. No more Keyboard! and no more big menus!

Sourcing cameras: NTSC or PAL? buying help
cctv_down_under replied to Eireann32's topic in Security Cameras
I am awaiting the Baxall cameras for testing, all feedback has been excellent, they are not cheap though, but cheaper than Phillips and GE, I would suggest stearing clear of cheap imports, try contacting Sunkang and asking whom is their Re-Seller in UK, they are a MAJOR manufactorer and their products are re breanded all over the world, they are very cheap too if you buy large amounts. Ganz has an office in the UK but it may be out of your price range to get Japanese cameras, but they are well worth the look, out of the thousands I have sold, I think I have had 10 that have failed, and that is NO exaggeration. As for NTSC, I would not do that, for the reasons mentioned above, getting a bad wrap for saving a few bucks is not worth it, think about monitors etc that may be added later, you should let your customer be able to work it on any equipment bought locally. besides Pal is better anyway, your best bet is going to be getting in good with a UK distributor or if your going to import anyway, have a look at my prices as we are PAL as well. If you want a contact at Sunkwang, please PM me and I will tell them you will contact them and they may sell to you direct with good pricing. this is their web site http://www.koreacctv.com Failing all of that, offer em a job and I would come there in a flash, I always wanted to live in Ireland, that is my ancestry and at least you know that I know Geo well -

Sungjin, built a lot of embedded machines for many companies, in fact they are one of the major players by the looks, prices are good, there is a new model coming out with more features than you can poke a stick at it is the 4000 series. Apparently they are not big in the US, they have a large shair of the Asian market though. They used to make for some very big companies, but they designed the 4000 series for a big player and they rejected it so they then made a lot more features and are now going direct, from speaking with the Rep, he used to work for the biggest company oevr here and no longer wants to do wholesale, Sanyo have opened an office here, Kalatel now sells direct too, Merit are about to open a factory and Bosch are now here too, seems many good wholesale people are starting to work directly for the manufactorer, the beauty of this is they have existing clients that they can use and if you go with a company that only sells cameres then you can also be on the payrol for a company that does DVR's, therefore two salaries and two comissions. The Sungjin rep also is a rep for Baxhual (something like that) cameras from the UK,he makes a packet now. Seems the days of wholesale are grinding to a halt... wont be long till Geo opens an office or gets a rep here as well. -
Sunkwang sells nice vandals, take a look at my site on the banner you should see them there. But would be cheaper to find your local distributor

Ip servers are hard to get good montioring for, not in the price bracket compared to a small Geo box and then running the contol room software -
Where to purchase DVR cards
cctv_down_under replied to Robert Oaks's topic in General Digital Discussion
Just out of curiosity, how close was my pricing -
The what are you complaining about.. I am sick of you having a go at DVR cards.. from now on I will look for your posts and make my own views more widely known.
-
The Geo system will restart if no cameras are plugged in.. do what you were told before but also deactivate the cameras not in use, you need to have 1 cam at least installed.. this is a safety feature so that if it loses the inputs it will start itself to try to pick them up againSadly a Standalone can not do this!

Have you considered using a 1 ch dvr and control room software -
I just got back from the Australian trade show it was very interesting indeed. Here are some of the things I noticed at the show: 1/ Merit Lilin and several other DVR making companies have decided to opt out of the high end arena and are now selling what I think is Omnivision, and boy it is cheap, it is linux based and fairly boring but it is rare to see three wholesalers selling the same products. 2/ CHANCE-I were at the show and I spoke to the head person, they are looking for distributors here, they have all the features that Vendoma advertise, they just havent put it on their website yet, they say that Vendoma has an OEM version and SDK and that they have made several valuable changes, the guy that was looking for distributors knew absolutley nothing. One thing that is interesting though was that they swear the onboard MPEG4 cards are going to be only marginally more expensive than the software compression versions so this is exciting, I had a good look at the software and it is not all that flash but it is very easy to use because of the lack of features, but they cant even play back files through the web etc.. so it is still underdevloped but looks nice. 3/ Magic radar is now being sold by a large wholesaler here in Australia, they only sell complete units, I had another look at it and it still is very plain and basic, they will release a linux version in 3 weeks, it is quite stable and looks ok on recordings and they now have a control room feature which is pretty good, the company distributing it here was told by magic Radar they have exclusive rights but then one of my dealers is ordering many peices of it OEM, so they are the same as Geo in this regard, they do not care about loyalty. 4/I read heaps of documents on the new enterprise stuff coming out for GE, I must admit this is the most impressive integration I have yet to see.(and yet to see means it is not here yet). it boasts access control DVR and alarms in one integration either by 232, ethernet and some wireless, the beauty of it all is that everything integrates, for example your alarm pad can have an lcd that can control any PTZ on the site, your access control links into the data base and the DVR and better still they export in common SQL, you can have reports straight to a website or graphical representation.. as per usual though it will be way overpriced and not used by many but it is a huge step forward for them, had another look at thier DVR range, still limited by speed.. and the cameras were less than impressive, they do have some great fibre transmition gear and some awesome housings, but as usual way overpriced. 5/ Geo showed me a run through of Version 6.1, my god it is impressive, not just saying that.. I will list a review on here soon so I will leave this one alone for a while 6/ I found an awesome Standalone, but insanlely expensive, it has Jog Shuttle, CDRW or DVDRW, USB, VGA, full channels of audio Composite out and is ...yep wait for it.... 400FPS, and not in quad mode either, in single mode (havent tested that yet) it looks the absolute goods with an embedded RTOS here is a link for it, they also sell a 800FPS DVR with 32 CH hardware compression but not very cheap... it comes from ICFS in china but it looks the goods. http://www.austarsecurity.com.au/austar/products.asp?cid=1336 7/ Also saw a really cool PTZ motion tracking cam, I know they have been around for ages, but this had a click and drag interface and on the fly button adjustments, and had a full 360 degree constant view, using two cameras, it was reall cool,,, Imagine doing a tour by writing your name on the screen by the mouse as if you were drawing it like a pen and then watching the cam follow your signature as a tour. 8/ Lots of cheap cameras coming in now, loads of Samsung... LG etc.. very poor quality but moving large volumes.. 9/ I did see one other really cool software application but will not mention it yet as I may want to deal with these guys, lets just say it is developed here and is very unique and very impressive.. but more on that later. 10 Overall.. there is still nothing that comes close to Geo, and GE is still too expensive.. the big boys have come down a peg and didnt have such flash stands this year, there seems to be a trend towards anti terrorist tracking abilities this year and full system integrations, and many people are choosing between either high end DVR products or Low end and there is no gap in between, also some of the more reputable companies are now starting to loose the name brands and head for cheaper name brands like.. Samsung or LG and even OEM products, some of the biggest wholesalers in Australia I think are now struggling to justify higher prices as cheaper products close the gap and therefore they are no longer ignoring smaller dealers. I did not see a DVR under 200FPS at the show excepting the Standalones of Dedicted Micros and Kalatel, the majority are now PC Based and only 1 I.P camera was at the show, there was many web servers and DVR integration accesories being introduced for the first time and it was busier than last year. Regards, GC
