Raidentech ? DVR card
cctv_down_under replied to Tim's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Talk about weird, what that is, is the old Geovision Gv200 and it is very old software, i know that some people here were aloud to have it as OEM but were not aloud any updates, it should only run on 98 and SE and is 12FPS, that is the screen shot they used anyhow.. then dwon the page they have the AVER screen shot.. weird.. but they state the speed of the GV600 which is not the software they showed, looks like a dodgy to me.... Maybe they bought the card and use Pirated sofware, either way Geo or Aver are not that price, they may use the GV200 software on their own card to gett that frame rate -
Nubie Question
cctv_down_under replied to thekahuna's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
AV is right.. you are probaly watching and recording at 320x240 resolution, you would need to set the card to 640x480 or larger to see an improvement in the picture quality, howver raising the size of the resolution fills your HDD faster and will also lower the speed at which it records at. The other thing that affects picture quality is the amount of compression or compression type, check what compression you are using and find out if it can be changed, on most DVR units you can adjust the amount of compression on a sliding scale so check this as well... Latsly the camera resolution that you have (TV Lines...well actually not really as only 2/3rds are read) affects the quality that you record with. When you look at a DVR card on PC yopu are looking at a digitised image that has travelled through video card to display and it is a cropped image 640x480, there is overlay added to it and when recorded it is severly compressed, when you watch it on an analogue monitor you are watching the full resolution like 768x576 (Probably wrong.. but I cant remember PAL).. and it is not digitized or compressed so it looks better, but you can not record uncompressed data as it would be way too large to store, so compression is added, you see analogue just shows much less frame rate by using timing steppers in a VCR but digital does not do this, therefore the recording speeds can be faster..well they do do this but at a faster speed. To geta round this concept some DVR card manufactorers sell a 480FPS Live Display card and this has an output that is not FULLY digitised and therefore provides a clearer and Real Time picture on 16 Cameras, because of the amount of chips needed to do this these cards can be very expensive indeed and it still has to interlace so it is not as sharp as an anlogue monitor but it can make adjustments to DSP processing which can make the image look better than Analogue Lastly.. some dvr cards interlace the signals at a frame rate that is a straight division.. therefore 100FPS on 10 cams is 10FPS per camera, but some others like GEO etc can take the cameras that arent activated by movement and use the spare frames to move to a camera that has movement... for example. 100FPS card with 10 cameras without Buffering with 5 cameras moving means those 5 cams get 10FPS... A system with Buffering has 100FPS with only 5 cams leaving 50FPS that is spare that means each camera gets roughly 20FPS (actually its more like an extra 7FPS but that is another story)... This is a downfall in Standalone machines because most of them cant do the "On The Fly" adjustment. My Tip is find a card that does 640x480 and Buy the Real Time Card and the faster the card or a card that does buffering. You could find a Mpeg2 card but that would be large in file size or heavilly compressed. I hope this helps -

Camera enclosures for a walk in frezzer
cctv_down_under replied to vamp07's topic in Security Cameras
Actually you can use any enclosure that is sealed as long as you use a heater element that is rated for your temperature, but yes I would have to agree that the Extreme CCTV ones are good, a bit on the expensive side though! -
I sell my four channell Standalone with a webserver and no HDD, it has motion detection, removable HDD bay VGA and composite out, full remote sofware. for $530 US

I tottaly agree with Loop, the problem was that IBM made the "DeathStar"...oops Deskstar drive with the brand new glass platters at the time, then they posted on thgeir website that they do not recommend that these drives run for more than 8Hrs a day, which is not really suitable for server apps, they did this because they knew they were weraing out, IBM has since changed manufacture but ..yes like everyone else I wont use them.. There are server grade Motherboards, cases, powersupplies, UPS, Video cards, Ram, but HDD's are all the same, it matters not much what you use, but I wont use Hitachi or IBM again, just in case.. I use either maxtor or Seagate, I choose seagate because of the onboard 8Meg buffer and because they have a three yr warranty and that is the main reason, this way when we offer 12 month warranty and it is returned to us faulty in 24 months, we can charge for a new one as the customer has no warranty and we are still covered for the drive. This makes my VCD and Game collection drive catalogue, very large.... just kidding!! I would not sue chjaep OEM ram though, make sure to use a good video card.. I use the Radeon 9800 Pro, but that is overkill you could easily use a 9200 but make sure to use the latest drivers for the full spreads of overlay features. As for ram, it is pretty hard to go past Corsair!! they give a lifetime warranty.. and as you can guess warranty is everything. The biggest problem you will face is that your competitiors wont do this, they will sue some cheap arse power supply without fuse or second fan, they wont use a UPS, they will us onboard graphics and a cheap case, they WILL beat you on price!! But thats not the point.. reputation is but it is harder to sell with more expensive gear.. for example, most people just add another drive.. I use removabel fan cooled bays, most peoiple use standard fans, i add two to the case and use a speed controller for noise reduction, most people just put the Geo card in... I put heatsinks on every chip, most people use a standard P4 CPU fan, i use a spoecial one with special heatsink.. This makes my prices more but lots less headaches. To help sell it is best to say to the customer.. look at your fle server, it is not going to work as hard as this machine (DVR) so it needs all this for crunching video data, failure to do so may result i your system being unstable... This brings me back to the argument I have always had.. Standalones are more stable, but not by much on MY machines, but on people who scrimp and save.. you betcha!!

Thats not me in that picture....!!!!!!!!! That is the head of our computer division. Gee I hope I dont sound too much of a know it all, I really do not know better than anypone else and if I could change my name from expert I would. Mate we use Seagate for the Buffer and the 3 yr warranty, western digital sucks and IBM has only just got its **** together, as for mainboards either the P4c800 Deluxe from Asus... also three year warrant or the ABIT boards as they seem pretty good.

Hardware compression boards compress the MPEG$ in the actuall chip of the card, this releases the workload of the CPU and allows for faster compression down the PCI bus this means that faster compression on the BUS and less CPU load makes faster recordings, Most DVR cards state thier speeds at 320x240 resolutions but when shifteed to larger resolutions like 640x480 it is about a 40% drop in frames in kost DVR cards, some are different and depends on the CPU as well Geo is about 25% from my testing. To buy the chips for the cards that compress on the fly are expoensive and you also pay for the technology, so manufactorers are trying to make them so that they dont have to pay for the development, like stealiing the idea.. but in order to do so they must make it work without the standard MPEG4 and at this point it is either too expensive or too unstable. At the end of this month there will be new 64 Bit technology which will alleviate a lot of the headache and the AGP slot will be no longer as well as a faster PCI bus, this has put a lot of manufactorers on hold and therefore the people that were about to release these cards are waiting for the new stuff The softwrae should look the same but would work faster.

Geovision about to release version 6.1
cctv_down_under replied to cctv_down_under's topic in Geovision
Some of the features you listed there are already there, some are from version 6.1 and some are for a further release. -
Man, I just got a Beta for testing the latest 6.1 software, MAN OH MAN, what a list of features, you should see some of the cool stuff they have changed, it is officially released in 2 weeks and I promise to post the new stuff up here as soon as it is... bloody hell though they sure have done it again, it is evreything I asked for and more!!
-
LOL... I actually have one here on display of those cases... bloody looks cool but the problem is it has its own powersupply, so if that fails you are stuck with having to buy a whole new case instead of a powersupply.. mind you.. the Antec gear is pretty rock solid... It only has one fan though which is pretty poor but is very quiet from what I am told..we sell computer bits as well.. check out my promo girls.. this should raise a laugh http://www.altech.com.au/addon/cebit2004/PromoGirls3.jpg

What size pwersupply, is it standard.. is it the truvalue powersupply with fan or not... have you used them,, we sell a lot of Antec Stuff never seen this case before.. what si the model... thanx in advance

Geovision about to release version 6.1
cctv_down_under replied to cctv_down_under's topic in Geovision
I will be sure to list it here when they release it and I have tested it.. at the moent I just do not have the resources.. my Tech's are far too busy building machines -
You can throttle the CPU in the BIOS of most motherboards, but by default most coding is done to work the CPU to the Max when compressing the data, the other option is to compress it on chip, I remember you could make some adjustments in 2000 server but been a while since I have done that so can't really remember

I have some of the older ones for sale.. well below cost.. need to get rid of old junk!

Looking for good deals on about 750' of cable
cctv_down_under replied to justme's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Just be carefull of shipping costs, cable is heavy, so buy it locally, always ask if it made locally and if it is then it will be better than the stuff from Asia. Wiht Siamese cable be carefull as well, the cost of Copper has gone up recently so many cable companies are now selling Siamese cable with only 12 strands int he power and this means you can not run it as far. -
Geovision about to release version 6.1
cctv_down_under replied to cctv_down_under's topic in Geovision
Nah I argued with them over the GUI but I do not think they have changed it, I only got a list of features so far... have not installed it yet. Nope theri distribution will still suck but there is a lot of Manufactorers doing the same these days, I had the GE rep here the other day and was prepared to sell to me with small quantities even thought they have major distributors... mind you I would have had to sign a disclosure to not reveal the prices. -
I would not use that PC for Geovision, for many reasons... 1/ It is an SIS chipset and although that may work it may have intermittant faults. 2/ The Bus speed is too slow.. I have just recieved version 6.1 for Beta testing and I can tell you that you would be better with a 800Mhz front side bus with what they are about to release. 3/ There are also some new features coming out that will work the video card harder, you will need twin view video cards for these features, when getting the right video card the thing to look for is that it supports hardware overlay, most of the G-Force boards do but I prefer the Radeon 9800 Pro series but a 9200 SE will also work, make sure you load Direct X 9 before loading the software. 4/ You only have 1 PCI slot, what are you to do if they want relays etc, usually a single PCI slot is shared with the AGP but I guess this is unlikely with this machine but I would be wary of it.

Hay Hermy, have you used the Geo POS data box yet, I know it is pretty lame but I need to know what registers it will work on? We have people wanting it and I do not know what to tell them

Very wrong Rory... as shown before Sunkwang sells to many US companies.. I do not think you realise that 95% of all security cams and DVR boards whether for standalone or PC come from Asia.. Provideo and many others sell Sunkwang under other names..as for Samsung.. agreed they are cheap... Sanyo is one of the best cams in the world 520 TVLine, when I meant fatures I wasn't talking about their wanky tracking or zoom features, I was more talking of thier wide dynamic filtering and phase shift as well as the largest TV lines available and RS232 connections and progammable backlight settings via zones.. I would not class Sanyo as cheap...I know what your opinion is of anything that comes from Asia but you are wrong, Sunkwang is #3 in the world and most of its sales are to the US just under other names..like pro video etc. I admit the new Dinion from phillips with 64 Bit gives good colour images but it is not worth the price nor is the GE range..which also comes from Asia I agree prices may be different but Ganz is the second biggets.. and they should not be that expensive.. there are but a few manufactorers if any in the US most of it comes from Asia..whether you wish to admit it or not.. kalatel DVR is made in Asia then assembled in the US so they can say made in the US but this is not really correct.. as far as I can say .. japanese cams seem to be the go.. Ikegami, Ganz, Panasonic etc etc theres your big three high end guys!!
