What standalone DVR's are you all using?
cctv_down_under replied to Zyra Tech's topic in General Digital Discussion
That is interesting, the DM is actually cheaper here than the Kalatel, i think the DM looks nicer and has very nice software and good remote softwrae, but the Kalatel has much more features and is more Rock Solid, it does have a really ugly interface but it is well structured, if it wasnt so darn slow and expensive I might push it myself, the good thing about the Kalatel is that every feature works well... no flaws which is impressive... I did manage to crash the Kalatel more than the DM but inside the Kalatel is well resourced, and well built.. good engineering, the DM just has good software and has more of an emphasis on retail.. but it is a fair bit cheaper. -
Actually the 2134 cam from Sunkwang is a bucket of poo! and I sell it.. well used too, they have actually been faulty, which is rare from Sunkwang, Sunkwang are actually the third biggest exporter of cameras worls wide and one of the biggest security product companies in the world, they made the top 15 list for the 50 biggest and financially succesfull compinies in security in a recent report in a security mag I read. Ganz is the second biggest and Panasonic the biggest... the 2134 sucks but Sunkwang have admitted this and what they did to fix it was awaesome, they lowered the price of the new 2154 day nighter to less than the 2134 and made it fully digital with on screen display and prgramable multiple light zones.. It is quite nifty, even comes close to the Ganz now.. In my opinion the best cameras to buy are Ikegami... they last for ever have multiple chipset sizes and the picture is awesome. Sanyo... The highest TV lines out there.. awesome cameras and some nice features, but a bit overpriced.. Ganz... Following in Ikegami's footsteps, Ganz is inexpensive but high end Japanese, for wholesalers who dont want failures.. you cant go past Ganz.. they are without doubt the easiest company to deal with that we have ever dealt with. Sunkwang is the best of the korean gear, it is insanely cheap and most of the smaller wholesalers use their products and re-badge them.. Sunkwang sucks with turn around times though and it can take a month to get your product but they are the majority of the cams we sell. Samsung Techwin... Bottom end but ohhh so inexpensive, this mob does not make the cameras but they import some of the best lower end cams and are close to Sunkwangs prices, and being samsung they are easy to sell wiht a brand name.. must admit it sounds better than Sunkwang but a high failure rate. Samsung Electronics.. the higher end Samsung and the real deal. this is a true manufactorer and the products are as reliable and as good as Sunkwang but are slightly more expensive, however the logo does sell and they come in nice box's with good manuals and nice brochures but the price is a bit of an issue.

Ok here is the problem. I had a customer that wanted 16 cameras installed and wanted 2x spot monitors that were fed by 2x 8ch looping switchers so that 8 cameras rotate on monitor#1 and 8 cameras on monitor#2 and all cameras end up back at the DVR. The problem is this, I have tried to use LCD screens with video composite inputs into them and when the cameras switch on the switcher and the signal breaks (between changes) I get a black screen pause on the screen and this only happens on the LCD screens. Explained another way. when the switchers change inputs from cam 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 there is a black screen and pause displayed on the LCD monitors between each change. I am pretty sure that this is because the scanning of the LCD does not pick up a signal during the change of cameras and therefore it scans all the other inputs like VGA etc to look for a signal, causing the black screen effect. I would like to know if anyone else has come accross such a problem.

Yes it can, you can remove the drive and also can do it remotely over the network, the one thing I did like is the remopte interface is exactly the same as the main interface so it is just like being there only slower, I like the idea of flash because you can upgrade so easy with flash rom's. I have to agree with AV this is why dedicated and Kalatel are good CD Backup!!! but the price is just not justified, I sell the thing for about half the price of the dedicated micros dvr, and it has more features, the only thing is that the search engine sucks and it does not support PSTN, I dont think the kalatel does either but Dedicated Micros does... As far as I can see the kalatel is still the top dog... even if slow but the price is soooooo darn high, we are looking at some others but thats the deal... i reckon that in order to call something a standalone it should be nothing like a PC but in relaity the only way to havea CDRW is to have a PC Based standalone like the Kalatel. I found the Kalatel very hard to use at first but then it was a breeze the second time around, it was so fully featured it nearly compared with Geo, the let down was the limited speed and the WAY OVER EXPENSIVE PRICE! but it is a good machine none the less.. just wish it was cheaper and faster!! I do not really consider 35 or 50 fps to be enough on 16 cams -
I haven't tried AV Tech's cams yet, they looked a bit cheapish, I wount buy cameras from Taiwan ..Only from Korea and Japan, but thinking about it now thanks to that info. I have been using Sunkwang fro ages, very good pricing, they cover every range, the only problem is they take ages for a consignment because they have to make them first. if you order bulk from them then you wait a long time to get them, but they are worth the wait, only my Ganz cameras have ever been able to outshine them, but they are a fraction of the cost and I highly recommend them.

Its pretty good qulaity images... being Mpeg2 though it is packed pretty tight on recording, I dont like the search feature and it is a little slow on commands but for the price it is ok! It is not a patch on the Kaltel but no where near the price and faster! -

AV TEch are great to deal with we sell the 773 Standalone.. cheap as chips and motion detection too, the 772 is the same beast without motion detection but way cheap like under $200 US and before my good little buddy Rory gets on here to say cheap ****!!! its actually quite good, the web servers fly out the door as not everyone wants to record. We do not buy any of the models over 4 ch yet as we know they have problems with certification for their 12v/5v Power Supplies, and such slow frame rates, but the other ones rock! TRhey are working on a 4ch webserver as listed above, for a new company they are progressing fast.. I am not sure if they truley are new but had not heard of them before till we got a sample and was very impressed indeed, captures the same frames as the Kalatel but fraction of the pricing and to boot you can connect to the thing through the webserver then change settings on it as well.

Good timing, I just got my hands on our latest product, its a small webserver for around $150 US it means you can connect your cams or any input (for example you could put the output of a MUX into it) and then presto connect it to your router and away you go.. at the moment we only have the 2 cam versions but there are 4, 8 and 16 on the way, beauty of this is we can sell a motion detected standalone with removable drive bay for about $500 US ans then add the Webserver for $200 and that means you can watch through DSL the cams and all for under $700, we sell the webserver on its own and it also has full control, so you can network it as an individual item and then control it remotely, looks similar to the Wave Vue from Kalatel.

The Kalatel does do full frame images as well, but this section is PC CARDS, otherwise I would have mentioned it.. The dallmier does MPEG2 not much else does that, Geo's feature list is huge, not many DVR's can have. RPB...Remote Playback Server, downloads full sized files from ultiple nodes or multiple DVR control sites. Geo has Control room software, with full voice over I.P and has the baility to have up to 360 sites buffering video directly to a base station, they also archive differntly and have strong backupfeatures with interlaced audio. Video rendering is another strong feature as well as de intelacion, They have the following ways to connect remotely: Webcam with system database, remote view, log ins, camera up times, full remote control, log files, verification even graphs and a choice of codecs as well as the abilty to change ports or even limit bandwidth. I.P Muilticast for multicasting on multiple networks with a built in network throttle. Straight I.P client PDA connection POS Many many more options..licence plate recognition. Object search, thumbnail view, network sharable computer load, their own compression and multilevel password as well as three compressions, the common mistake is that most people who conect only veer see the web cam so the problem is they think that that is the limit. As for speed I mean yes the flowing GUI (even if it is ugly) good coding and ability to capture 400Fps. The Dedicated screens look nice and the unit is robust and well made, all accesories are top notch and easy to use and look great, remote apps look fresh but are limited in appearance buit it still is an embedded PC. As far as compression algarisms for transmiting video.. you show me a better remote view site and I will eat my words, Geo is the Fastest the clearest and the best, for ease of network configurationa nd full networking suites Geo wins hands down. For remote apps there is no comparison but fro ease of use you can not go past the Kalatel (once you learn it). I hope this helped -
Whoa BABY!!! tried the demo then got a message saying.. files that are need to operate windows succesfully have been mnodified and replaced with other ones, please insert service pack 1 to remedy this..... NICE SOFTWARE!!!!

Actually that is just for 1 Yr worth of recorded data storage on 32 cams... YEP thats what it takes.. you do the math!! We gave them many options, just quoted on a 147Tb solution just last month.. that gives 3 yrs recording on 32 cams. Severeal options were suggested, firstly Raid 5 Storage boxs in a rack mounted option with Gigabit lan, then we offered SAN Storage Area Network to our facility but we ended up with part SCSI Raid and part Tape back up, with an automated loading machine for achiving tapes, cost was about $1M Aus$ which I think is like 1.5M$ to you guys.. ahvent got the go ahead yet. But surprisingly they didn't flinch at the cost!

I agree.. far too often I have to tell my Techs that these are security companies not computer companies and they must lower their expectations.

The problem you have is video interlacing and rendering,, I a dont think Chance-I Vendoma do that...at small rsolutions 320x240 this should not happen so try that, check to see if the Vendoma Product has a changable video source.. Geo has a 640x480 video source and a 640x480SW (software Interlace) video source, plus they do hardware overlay and rendering, this fixes your tearing problem.. I disagree (again) with NEVERENDING.. Local Video ---- Dallmier 740x576 at full detail MPEG2.. Nothing comes close Stabilty ----Geo or Kalatel or Dallmier Networking ----- Not a single thing comes even close to Geo...NOTHING! Price ------- Comart Looks ----- Dedicated Micros Features ------ Geo GUI --- Chance-I/ Vendoma Ease of Use ----- IDIS Speed --- Geo -
