Challenging Camera / Lens Application?
cctv_down_under replied to james2's topic in Security Cameras
I have done this sort of before, the best is to use a camera like this one... http://www.koreacctv.com/ SK-2172X This a low light fully digital camera, it can be controlled by RS485 over a long distance, with the zoom and auto focus you can do it remotely and control your zoom to the right size, the best bit is that it has programable BLC by zones so you can mask most areas that reflect so much and it is also low light, there aare two versions one without low light, they dont cost the earth either, so it is a really good option for this solution, the problem will be heat though because they get a little hot at the best of times so you would need a good enclosure to keep it stable... I hope this helps, GC -
I like walking into shops and saying nice dummies and watch them squirm...at the place I play indoor soccer at they had some of those dummies with the LED they even had a wire and a face plate, only thing was they mounted them on a concrete pillar..straight onto it...what a joke,,, um yeh I bet they ran cable throught the centre of the pillar all the way back to the imaginary DVr, nice drilling job around corners!!!

Cable Length and Correct Cable
cctv_down_under replied to Bob La Londe's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
The splices will indeed be a problem, you should run a clean run and use a quad shieded RG6 if you have to use RG6 I prefer Fibre over long runs, you can buy Distribution Amps cheaper than that, you could buy a 8 in 16 out for around $200, but if it were me I would run Fibre, that way no interference at all, it originally looked to me like it was a power problem, but if you have made the changes now and it still does it I am betting on the fact that it is an earth loop or more likely, to many splices. Always put your requirements in writing on big jobs and always use installers that you know have done work like this before. Beldon cable is usally pretty darn good. I hope this helps, -
Good call, never thought oif the Velcro wrap!

Broadcasting CCTV over CATV

Is the picture as good on the standard telly when put through the cable coax or do you lose a bit of quality? -
Gosh where to start, i should really make a new post to explain this in detail but you need to port forward your router, each application uses a different port and your router will be stopping it. Keep in mind you do not need to use any software, you can use your browser for most of the basic applications. Here is alink from my website on port forwarding on an older Geo System but keep in mind the Ports haev changed, depending on version you wish to use, have a read then ask me some questions, my tech's did this so I haven't checked it as I am currently doing a new website but it should give you an idea but check the ports for your version otherwise your log in password may not work. http://www.altechvision.com.au/pages/howto.asp#webcam I hope this helps, GC

All the softwrae is supplied, but you do not need any, you can talk, listen, control cams even activate I/O,s look at datbase files from POS or counter applications, log in records, system uptimes and remote log files without the use of any software, it is all web based. 2. I have several pan/tilt mounts that are not serial controlled. Instead a DC voltage is applied to turn the motor. Can the PTZ panel be configured for "custom" applications? Or can I use the I/O screen to close relays to turn the motors? Ther is a mapping setting in geo to set a PT control unit, old style with voltage variance for controlling older units in other words you set the output for the relay to turn left etc and then make that ouput do what you want then control as usual, not sure if they still sell it, they may have changed it already, but yes it is possible. 3. Which Geovision vendor has the best price/support? I can sell to you and BELIEVE me I have the best price and support but I am in Australia, so warranty would be a bugger for you, but not hat many fail these days. if you insist on buying the gear there, then make sure ou buy from someone that will not list prices on their site! I hope this helps

Experiences with Dell 400SC Server as Host For Geovision
cctv_down_under replied to kdberg's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Anything above a 100FPS (PAL), should be run on a board that has 800Mhz front side bus and hyperthreading, it is always better to buy quality components, I Might FTP some pics on here of some of the machines I built, did an insane one recently for some GV1000 machines, with a reverse mini rackmount, in other words the PCI slots face the front, so you can actually plug cameras into a rackmount that is in a rack at the front of the case, using the latest Prescot P4 and Corsair ram with a channeled motherboard that has a plastic tubing with Leds and wind tunnel affect over the sections of the board that need it, I used whisper spin fans and some big ones that are on a fan controller that fits into a Floppy drive bay, then on the Cpu used a circular ..large heatsink with special fan for it and had some venting at the back, I also put heatsinks on every chip on the mainboard and a fan on the North Bridge as well as heatsinks on the Geo Cards themselves. -
Ken, Can you please email em the prices they gave you, I have had enough of the US market trying to increase their sales by selling to Australia, thing is they know JACK about Geo so I have decided to act, I am sick of them selling below Geo's recommended prices so from now on my morals go out the window. If anyone wants prices cheaper thatn they are already getting but with much better support please email me witha contact email and I will email some pricing for export.. I never wanted to do this but if it is ok for them it must be OK for me! That mob seems to be ok, at least they require registration before prices are displayed, not like some others which list below recomended prices without registraion, like Turbo CCTV and Wise Micro (same thing), that was the last straw for me, anyone and I do mean anyone that can show me prices or a quote I will beat it, by the end of this week I will have set some export prices for you all.

Probably not the right wording, Geo does not make the board so, therefore they are copying someone else, Geo must sell a load of cards though because the manufactorer they use actually puts the Geo model on the card and has modified it so that it has a Rom on it that works as a security Dongle of better known as a Key Pro, this is supposed to prevent people from using Geo software on other boards, silly buggers though, its not hard to get a rom reader and flash the rom so you can change models, I only sell them so I havent had to touch a card in ages, but the older ones could easilly be upgraded if you wanted to.. for example you used to be able to buy a 12ch board for example, flash the rom and bingo you had a 16ch, I havent done it but I have heard of it done. There is loads of ways to tweak Geo but not going to list them here, that is why people buy from me.. I have had so many enquiries from overseas now it is insane, up till now I have always refuted the offer to do so out of respect of the Geo guys in the US, but the stories I hear from lack of knowledge and support is tempting me big time. bastards try to sell to my dealers here though, well below Geo's recommended pricing, bett hats why the likes of Wise Micro and Turbo CCTV (same thing) do not buy Geo much, you play games with your dealers and other peoples and you get burn't I hope this helps

You can make it run as a service but this is a pain, the way I set mine up is to use the Geovision auto log on feature...some points.. If you are using a domain and DO require an actuall WINDOWS log on (this is not necessary of course) then you can use a script to log on each time using your domains passwords, you can set windows to auto log on as Hermin pointed out, when you load geo it asks you if you wish to add to start up and if you check the Start Monitor Monitor ALL checkbox then it will start automaically and record as soon as windows is loaded, even if you have not set Geo to automatically log on or not, even if it is not looking like it is loaded. With the auto log on feature you can set a level of password to start Geo on each time it loads, which is ESSENTIAL if you have users that might fiddle with the system as you can lock them out of it, even stop them from minimising. One thing to note, you might want to set your Video source higher on the Geo or you will only record small images as this is what geo sets as its default. Also, set your video deinterlace renderer and full screen Hardware overlay options to ON, (only if your video card supporst it of course) and after setting th auto log on level that you want to log in each time make sure to allow that user to be able to have full screen mode or they will not be able to use it. A fail safe for this is to use a program like Fire Daemon, this is a proccess monitor and that looks for the Geo process and makes sure it is always running, the upside of this is that when windows starts you are insured Geo is running also means that if anyone kills Geo it will restart itself without a reboot, kinda like a pop up window that can never close. What we need to know is are you asking can windows auto log on and start each time? Do you need to network log on and can the password be the same each time? If there is anything that I can do to assist please feel free to let me know!

How do you connect it into cable, I have actually never done this before.. I have used RF Modulators using several fequencies on one channel then using a rmeote you can change through but would be very interested in a solution that allowed you to connect it to Cable TV so that you can use your existing remote, can anyone tell me if there is an off the shelf option? -
Shock Proof PC Case that will fit a Geo Card

Does anyone know where you can get a shock proof case that will fit a PCI card? -
As most of you are already aware, we have tested many different DVR cards, which has left me with a large range of stock that currently is gaining dust in my wharehouse. I was just interested to see if anyone is interested in the list of cards that I have as I will be selling them off below cost. If you are interested then please PM me and I will send you the list (not that it is done yet).. If you have access to the Dealer section of this forum then I will be listing the prices there, but I will not list prices in here as some of you probably already sell these cards.

Geovision - strange problem
cctv_down_under replied to Zyra Tech's topic in General Digital Discussion
I have never seen the Next button on any geo product that I can remember and I have sold thousands and thousands.. As for watching internally and not being able to watch remotely.. what are the I.P. adresses you are using? Here is a check list: 1/ Make sure that you have set your I.P. for your geo machine to be a permanant address otherwise it will use DHCP and will change all the time. 2/ Make sure you have an actuall permanent I.P from your ISP it can be done without it but is a lot messier 3/ Make sure your modem is only a Modem not a Router/Modem if it is yes you will need to forward ports. 4/ Make sure you have set the TCP tick box to ON in the System Configure/ General settings section otherwise the system may reboot (if you set it too) and it has not been told to start again, you can turn it on under the main screen but that is for using until it reboots. 5/ The remote view client is software, make sure you used the same version as the software you loaded on your machine.. to check this check the .exe file that is in the root program directory by right clicking it and to check the client at the top there is an info or about section that will tell you what version it is...personally I would not use the TCP client only the web cam. do the same steps above if you change it. 6/ Check that your ISP allows uploads and does not block the ports you want to use, some cable mobs do not allow uploads. try this and let me know the following...Version, Router or Not, allowed uploads.. I should be able to help you from there on Regards, GC 6/ -
Geovision - strange problem

Which application of Geo are you using to try to connect remotely -
98 percent of all cameras have a standard BNC connector and these will all work on DVR the only ones that dont are ones with power or data signal running up the Coax.

cctv_down_under replied to redrumloa's topic in General Digital Discussion
Don't do it... honestly do not buy a cheap card, read the posts here, you don't have to rush out and buy a flash Geovision system or a Kalatel but don't skimp too much on the DVR. As for the cameras, ask who ever (electronically so they can not lie) you buy from where the cameras that you are buying come from, if they are from China... forget it.. Taiwan...only if really desperate...Korea...Go for it or Japan...Top Notch. My Two Cents Worth Regards, GC -
Doem cameras are best for indoor use unless the ceiling is high..well they aren't "the best" but most costaffective as lighting rarely changes fast indoors. You can buy form Brisbane Here www.altechvision.com.au

Electus Distribution or Jaycar.. the same thing.. you need to be a wholesaler to buy from Electus.

IP Camera Systems
cctv_down_under replied to rory's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
As for the casino Rory, you can easily get the bandwidth needed for a full I.p solution just use Fibre for one solution and there are many. As for quality, yes you can get composite quality over I.P but thats the point then you need to compress it again and that is already done on a DVR and that kind of quality gives bandwidth issues if not using a good thoroughfare network. The common mistake many make is that most people see I.P camera demos remotley and most people that demo them set them for low quality for speed and bandwidth issues, therefore a comparison can not be made that the cameras are of lesser quality, the thing is though to buy a high quality one it is way too expensive... This is a vdeo server is it not.. you do not need I.P cameras at all just webservers which you can get at $200 US for a four input so why would you pay $1000 x 4 for I.P cameras when you can run a webserver instead. I.P and standard CCTV are the same at the head end and anything that I.P does DVR can do as well, they are cheaper than a matrix as it is easier to assign cameras but that is it.. Both can be moved if used over internet or ethernet and both cost the same for head end solutions. as I said I see the future not in I.P cameras but wireless networked cameras that feed to many small webservers that will store 1 day then schedule wirless back up to a head end, no cables what so ever. so you have 4 cameras in building 1 Another 4 cameras in building 2 they have no wires and they wirelessly connect to a 8 Ch web server which stores 1 300GB hdd or Hopefully a 300GB rom by then, this can be in a roof or anything and the webserver will be as small as a HDD, then that can send to head end for storage if needed after compression, making transmition fast, configurable, wireless, accessable at the webserver through I.P or by plugging in a small screen and will offer days of recording or an optional head end that does not even need to be a standard PC more like a NAS Storage Area Network device like a external Raid array, they are pretty cheap so your cost would be cheap as. 8x $250 for cameras that have wireless, $200 for the webserver and $200 for its HDD (optional) No labour No wires and that gives a few days to 1 week at full quality, then if you want max storage a networked storage box.. also wireless and you could hava a terabyte for aroound $4000 So for 1 week $2000 for a terrabyte $6000 and NO LABOUR, No lossed data as would replicate and no O/S and no Wires best of all when you move you take it with you, no cables to remove and no bandwidth issues as is its own secure encrypted network. Thats the future boys! -
Anybody know about the Itellicam Day Night cams??
cctv_down_under replied to aliensquale's topic in Security Cameras
Hard drive is IDE, nice burners they put in though, but that would be for the direct packet drwaing that it does.. I mean Plextor is a mean drive and not cheap, as for ram sticks they are PC ram sticks, the board on the top is mostly for Matrix operations and control of the inputs from the front panel, what you would not have seen is the board underneath it is a reduced Mainboard... JUST LIKE A PC, it has the same structure without the PCI bus, there is a chip for video, the same as on most mini Mainboards and there is a STANDARD mini CPU in it.. Rory I will agree with you about ME to a point..even on the quality of the Kalatel, however slow as hell unless you spend big bucks.... But THAT MACHINE IS A MINI PC, you could run your beloved 95 on it without a worry, the only difference is that the O/S is in a bank of roms.. Other than that the only thing that makes the Kalatel not a PC is that it has no PCI slots but built in mainboards don't use them either so go figure, it is a standard mainboard, if you tell me again it is not a PC I will read a copy of the roms, store it,,,,, install 95 on it and show you a screen shot, will be hard without the PS2 inputs but I am sure I can get around it, what you are saying is that it is not PC.. well that is like saying an XBOX is not a PC, it has no normal O/S, it has no PCI slots, it is standalone and has mini components, but by god, I have bought several to use as linux firewalls as at $250 Australian it is cheaper than a PC to use.. (interesting thought hay) You see microsoft make money from the games not the box, but Kalatel make money from the Box and the rest that goes with Cameras etc.. Don't be brainwashed, I stand behind the fact that the Kalatel is a Glorified PC just it uses an embedded O/S which is far from perfectly stable.. As I have said many times you dont have to run everything that XP offers, you can trim it down, mind you Auto Updates would not be something I would remove. I didn't want to release this trade secret but you can buy a trimmed down (embedded but not really) version of XP... no I wont say where, this is shelled out as well and is even more stable than anything I have seen. Most of the codecs used now for DVR will not be supported by 95 or ME and that is why you have so much trouble trying peoples demos. You want to wager that I can get 95 going on that machine even if Kalatel say it is not possible???? -
Cool
