    Best License Plate Capture cameras

I have to admit that extreme are good reg cams, but any high end camera can do it, its all in the settings of the camera...it is fiddly work as there is a lot to consider....white stamp, shutter speed, frame interlace delay, vertical smearing, plate reflectance...inversion etc...expensive cams and lenses can do the job, but in reality the shift between day and night time operations really requires a specialist camera as the lighting almost reverses the settings
  2. A pc based DVr is 1.1v peak to peak and analogue or even some standalones for display only require 1v peak to peak, try testing your camera and baluns on a very short fly lead....IE move the dvr to the cam and run a small lead...be carefull with termination of baluns, becasue how you terminate the twists really matters...IE did you unravel too much twist, this results in loss of colour burst. Step 1 - test camera into analogue service monitor..if you get colour then Step 2 - Test with a short run and your baluns...if you get colour Step 3 - Test with the long run and baluns...but power the camera locally...loss of voltage can drop a signal to below the peak threshold for colour..colour is the first thing you will lose...if you dont get colour Step 4 - Ensure you are getting enough power to the camera..remember you are running on thinner wires...so more ability to loose voltage.. If you get colour on local power or shorter runs, then you know its either termination or cabling or baluns.

It seems that forum active members become less than before

I have been on Holidays in the USA so sorry guys, but going to make a much larger effort next year
  4. I just got back from the OZ security show......I looked at every IP camera on display.....one thing stood out! They all are crapolla with handling any bright lights, even lights at the stand that were hardly bright, all cams massively overshoot, if you pointed any of the megapixel cams, including Axis, Panasonic and others at a slight bit of bright light they bloomed out of control.

Someone else looking at my cameras??

Buy a managed router and set the router to only allow access from certain IP ranges...chances are anyone else will have a different IP range becasue of their choice of service providor so you can pretty much block any one out...or simpler get a static Ip from where you want to watch remotely...or lastly set up a remote desktop to the DVR or a pc on the same network and lag in and turjn on the web viewing only when you need it...then disable after you are finished

    how to test video balun?

Best way is to send a test signal and on the dvr end use an oscilliscope...or you can buy pretty straight forward testing equipment
  10. Thought I might add my thoughts on the products that I have seen in the market (and I have seen many). STANDALONES The best three standalones that I have seen thus far are: 1/ Kalatel 2/ Bosch Divar 3/ Dedicated Micros Standalones really took off in the last few years, mainly due to a lot of bad press on PC Sytems and stability, but since XP has been fixed with its many bugs and now that the donkeys have closed their shops, PC's have made a big recovery into the market, from what I can gather the US mainly uses Standalones and so does the UK no coincedence that the DM and Kalatel are both assembled in these places. The New mover and shakers are Nuvico, Nadatel and the yet not well known IFCS the IFCS does 400fps and is only new so watch out for it, my opinion is that Standlaones will keep their share and you will also see an improvement in demand for the ISIS Standalone, however Hybrid machines will be the new realm. PC BASED MACHINES The Best three machines in the market that I have seen are: 1/ Dallmeier 2/ Geovision 3/ ISIS The main reason Dallmier is a great machine is that it is a full Linux, and has an outstanding recording quality, I have also seen the Video Inspector Plus from Russia, one hell of a machine with a load of features and you should watch out closely for this little baby as it has some awesome features. I expect Geo to keep it's dominance here, but with everyone building their own machines, the poor Geo will cop some criticism, and that awefull GUI. There are many new and excellent products in the PC market, especially the new Dibos 8 with I.P. camera support, but at this point the dallmier records the best images I have seen, the Geo has the best features I have seen and the ISIS is a good trade off between the two. CAMERAS I wanted to do three of these but i think it would be fairer to do a top 10. 1/ Bosch's new Day Nighter, simply the best camera I have ever seen without comparison 2/ Panasonic SD3 (not released here yet, but this will be a killer camera) 3/ Bosch's XF Camera 1/2 Inch, pound for pound the best camera in the market today and simply the most features available. 4/ Pelco PTZ Cameras, Simple, easy to use, reliable, good looking and supported, they are simply the best PTZ's I have seen yet. 5/ Ikegami 1/2 inch camera, outstanding low light performance, excellent in most lighting conditions and very reliable. 6/ Sanyo 520 Line cameras, cheap, practical, high resolution range. 7/ Ganz wide dynamic camera, you wont find better performance for price than Ganz, excepting perhaps Bosch. 8/ Samsung range of cameras, some are ok some are crud, but bang for buck, good money. 9/ Extreeme CCTV range of cameras, one of the best range of cameras used for troubling conditions, some of the best engineering I have ever seen. 10/ Sony range of Cameras, some are ok, but many with problems. There are many others, but the ones to watch are Sunkwang, I have heard people reject high end Japanese cameras to buy these instead and at the price they cost, what a bargain, their auto iris dome cameras are sensational, and Baxhual, havent seen this cameras yet but I have heard they are very exceptional. COST EFFECTIVE PRODUCTS The winners in cost effective products would be: 1/ Nadatel - an awesome 4ch standalone with everything and very cheap 2/ Av tech- awesome little units at a fractional cost (DVR's dont touch their cameras) not as good as the Nadatel but very good indeed and growing fast. 3/ Ganz cameras... awesome quality for the price mind you not all are made in Japan. I.P. SOLUTIONS I am not as strong in this area but I will mention the following. 1/ The Sony I.P. PTZ, awesome price for what it does, excellent quality and easy to use. 2/ Axis Cameras very easy to use software. 3/ Milestone control software... simply the best I have seen yet, an awesome product indeed. 4/ VCS range from Bosch, MPEG2 encoding at its best and auto recovery from network failure. Well there you have it, some really exciting products and a good list for anyone starting out in the business!

A thought...... if the credit crisis then dictates that the government now has better rights ...or perhaps a new department to allow it to check your financial spending in more detail...then they are going to get around the banks privacy concerns..for example if the government bails out some banks, you can bet that flexibility on the privacy agreements will be violated...what does this mean...well think about this.. If you wanted to find someone, especially if in a cashless society (RFID) you could do the following. Track the cell phone Check the last know location from anyone with GPS linked to google maps Look at purchase history to find what items they have bought then search for those RF ID's Look at where you shop for a likely location...what bus you catch, where you buy your paper, where you go for a movie...it is endless If you order things online...for example..movie tickets, they know where you are going to be. I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I have looked into this very thoroughly...over the last few years laws have been relaxed for detaining and arresting people, details of financial transactions have been logged more than ever and now I expect banks to follow suit. Put it this way...lets say you found out something bad about the government, lets say you saw a military operation go wrong, or government officals behaving wrong...they can arrest you for nothing....hold you for ages..interrogate you without question under the new terror laws, then they (if a cashless society) can wipe your credit and wipe your families credit in an instant, how would they know those details, quite easily, after all you call them dont you, you use a bank to give them money, you buy things for them. I know this all sounds weird and paranoid, but look into RFID its a scary technology and I am not the only person who has concerns.

I disagree that doing a google search is putting your info on the net, it should be private...if you like to dres in females clothes then thats your business LOL Honestly data information is worth its weight in gold these days, god knows it is part of what we do, t scares me when your PC auto updates to the latest browsers etc if you dont know what you are doing. I am more concerned about these RFID chips than anything else, they plan to chip humans and have already started, these chips could replace money and are trackable via satelitte, its concernign if you think about it...its ok in most countries, but could you imagine it in China..... It could affect peoples votes, cash and people could be completely wiped out (all money and personal info) if they didnt vote the right way. It is currently possible to update electronic pricing tags of items in a whole store with RFID and even through fluero lighting....for example..what time of day do you buy your bear...5:30 PM, lest put every can in the state up 10c for 2hrs...bang. RFID really scares me because a lot of items are now manufactured with it, it is in the layers of some footwear, even built into clothes etc, I understand that this makes it easier to find people...but it also makes it easier to monopolise the populas. As for Google..like I said it is just my opinion...but with Wallmart asking for everythign they sell...every item to be RFID and Google possibly knowing everything you want to buy, it all adds up to scary for me!

    Anyone recognize this beast?

The only "cards" I use are Geovision and not that often, not a real big fan of PC based DVR's

No...I was just translating what was probably written

    Anyone recognize this beast?

Probably.......Rgular computer problems...not Registry computer problems
  17. I am not tottasly sure the hex screws are for the back focus ring, but if they are there should be a small ring inside the cam between the cam and the lense...once the screws are loose this should move a touch

Need Help for outside Dome Camera

I would assume cheap cameras, but check that there isnt a thin film of plastic that you need to remove from the LED's. Also check that you arent over voltaging the cameras.

I may just be alittle paranoid, but I heard Google were asked to hand over info to the US Government about what people search for, they won a case so that they would not have to...would not be surprised to see that this might be funded by the US government, so they can track the sites people go to. Also the goolge maps concerns me....especially the nifty street view...I mean whats the first thing you do when you first see that site...look at your own place...so with your credit history...and I am betting with the global crisis on credit, they will want stronger searching powers..looking at your transactions. That RFID chip on your credit card scares me as well, I think it will all link to one database eventually. If you bought something on your credit card, and you have your mobile and credit card on you...both RFID chipped and some clothing like shoes that have also started to be chipped then when the RFID can be searched from a satelitte it could be scary. For example, if there are a mass of signatures of RFID at your house that were all bought on your credit card, and a mass of signatures at your GF's house because you left stuff there or bought something like a present for her, and you hae both used google maps...then they know not only what you own..what you like, what you buy but who you know. it all seems a little scary to me...they are even talking about chipping humans..I can see this heading towards a scary place and a cashless society

    Lens for a Panasonic WV-CP484?

Any of the japanese glass lenses are good....try Computar or Fujinon
  21. Gee... it doesn't look that bad, keep in mind that in at least one of those shots your camera is looking at a pretty wide dynamic range. The hex key is probably to allow you to adjust the backfocus ring...to set back focus on the camera...but unless your nightime images look fuzzy I would leave it alone
  22. The problem with motion activated PTZ is how can the camera determine which bit of motion you want to see...the bird flying past or the man holding a gun... The best way is to use as mentioned alarm sensors to detect an event and trigger the camera to that position, the best option is to set small perimeters with perimeter beams and make throttle points as best you can. I still think motion detecing PTZ is a good idea becasue having it move to something when not being controlled is a lot better than it looking at nothing

    POS integration

Maybe I should licence myself out and develop this for others

    POS integration

Data capture is realy old...and besides most printers these days are all USB...and besides that a printed docket does not contain all the information..therefore you can only capture what comes out on the docket...and if you knew the amount of info that is stripped from dockets...IE department, disount percentages, manager overrides...credit card info etc...this is all info that you want to search Most POS terminals are PC's they create data that is then sent to a back office pc to create a database...the best way is to convert this database or use this database to create a sececondary database that then write software to create these tables and link to the video files.....in this way you can drill right down...for example. Data Capture Searching allows Search all Voids --> List all transactions with Voids and amounts ---> play video Database Translation Searching allows. Search all Voids ---> List all transactions containing voids ----> Narrow down to only USA Sites ----> Narrow down to only sites in New York ---> Narrow down to only site =A ---> Narrow down to only Voids over $50 ---> Narrow down to only voids ---> Done by operator =A ---> Narrow down to only voids done from register = A ----> Narrow down to voids containing Pepsi Max ----> Narrow down to voids that also include a staff discount -----> Narrow down to voids that are immediate followed by opening a cash drawer...etc etc etc Data caputre is one packet at a time...but Database is almost infinite searching of all important criteria...not to mention that there is no point of weakness, data capture box, and no need for compatability.....Imagine telling a client, thanks for purchasing 1000 data capture box's but now that you have migrated to USB printing....we cant do it anymore.....no thanks
