16-Camera System Ideas...
cctv_down_under replied to Rock Austin's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
1/ There is very little gap with stabilty if a PC based machine is BUILT correctly and you use a good card like Geovision, but yes they are more stabe. 2/ Can someone please PM the price of a Nuvico for testing 3/ Normal HDD is all they use, they just charge for their time, also it takes some time for person doing pricing to make adjustments to the PC Markets prices. -
I have a whole heap of Computar VIDEO drive lenses that I can ship you below cost... don't you dare giggle ALAN!!!

Wow... what a deal!!!!! Thats an awesome camera, very old stock though, In my opinion Sanyo makes some of the best cames and highest TV Lines, I like the Ikigami as well but thats an awesome deal and even a Japanese lens to boot... hell sell it to me!

I Agree single channel machines are a great VCR replacement option, only problem is you wont get the same quality of image because it will be small recordings and your frame rate will suffer fromthe Mux!

PC based DVR vs. Standalone DVR – Pros & Cons.
cctv_down_under replied to SecureVision's topic in General Digital Discussion
I agree it is a myth, Most SECURITY Instalers have no idea when it comes to PC's, I would be out of business if they broke as often as everyone says! The problem is that builders of PC's dont know what they are doing, it is bad that a PCI card can get the blame for someone lumping two HDD's together and causing overheating.. PC's werent used in security before and that is why security companies that have to adapt build badly built machines and then the whole windows debate comes in.. To be honest most failures are hardware and not Windows, however I would go as far as to say that yes Standalones are more stable, but not by as much as everyone thinks, I actually managed to crash the Kalatel. -

PCI Card or dedicated DVR ?
cctv_down_under replied to starblaster's topic in General Digital Discussion
Actually it does.. embedded softwrae is expensive. I have a unit that does 100fps for $690 Aus without HDD, standalone dvr's are no where near as good with the remote features. on top of that I would not trust a company that does not know its products, how can it be 30FPS NTSC and 35 in Pal that makes no sense at all. Sounds like they are a computer company. What model was the Geo card that you were quoted that price on? Geovision is very stable and a good card -
PCI Card or dedicated DVR ?
cctv_down_under replied to starblaster's topic in General Digital Discussion
Unless you only want a PCI card, you wont find much for that price.. Geoviison and Kalatel will do all those functions you ask for.. I would suggest you shop around and let me know what you see, I have tested all the cards here so i can tell you the pitfalls with each.. Exact hardware is not so much of an issue anymore, besides if you buy a full machine then the distributor should sort that for you anyhow! -

Two choices... Standalone.. the Store Safe is quite good, but it may be more expensive than 2k or the Geovision. In honesty I would go for the Geo card because it has amazing networking ability, it is easilly the best networked DVR around, but if you want a pretty well functioned standalone device then you can not go past the Kalatel Store Safe .. but it only records at 25Fps which is poor unless you are only using like 8 cameras. For stabilty go the Kalatel, for features go the Geo card. Thats my opinion -
There is no general rule because all products use different technology's and codecs and compression. Geovision allows you to set the amount of traffic (video data) that is sent so basically you are setting the bandwidth to suit your application (size of your pipe) The more cameras you view at once the more consumption of your bandwidth will take place, you can also use what is known as packet shaping to limit the amount of bandwidth. The things to look for are bandwidth throttles on the softwrae and software that allows the compression on the fly which means you can watch a lesser quality picture at a faster speed. I would say that most importantly you want a system that will do MPEG4. Like rolling film through an old projector the video is made up of many still shots but with MPEG4 then you only send (refresh) the moving bits this makes it faster because it is smaller, for example: Imagine a camera viewing a game of tennis, the players will move constantly so every picture is different so every sequence is made of many pictures, what MPEG4 will do is keep the image of the court and not bother drawing it again on the next picture and will only draw the moving bits, like the players and the ball, this means it only needs to send, comprress or sample 1/8th of what it would have to have done if it needed to draw the court again. The best bet would be to connect to one camera and just measure your download... make sure your T-I supports free uploads or it will be a big bill also make sure the video data between the two sites is free and not counted as a download because if with the same company they should not have to pay for it. I hope this helps.

Thank you very much... nice to get a pat on the back every now and then! Where are you located?

Geo have started working on a standalone.. if they succeed to have the same features in the standalone, I am going to put every dollar I have into the stock when they float. You can buy OEM GUI for Geo, it is the same price and it is very easy to do your own as it is only Bitmaps, we arent allowed to or we loose our volume rebate, but I would if I was allowed, some of my dealers have done so already, I have to tell them to send it back the way they got it though if it needs repairing.
-
Nope but I have many dealers that I need to keep educated and not many in security know much about networking, hence the sometimes patronising explanations, the problem is you never know how much soemone knows so those type of explanations can easilly offend a knowledgable person. But thanks for the feedback I assume you were not being sarcastic.

I havent seen too many stainless steel images in Jackie chan movies.... If you scroll down from the above link you will see a poor screen shot of Geo's remote.....NON software remote client there is nothing wrong with that

No sends a video stream to remote softwrae that lies dorment on the machine, you could leave your laptop on at home and if anyone goes near your system it will live stream to your house.. excellent feature. You have to be kidding me... I mean agree the main screen looks pretty tacky, they wont change it, because they think it is their industry recognition, but the remote software looks heaps better than Kalatel C'mon you can not be serious. . Rory, if this was a true statement then I could say that my DVR's are actually Australian made, I mean the board is assembled here, all GE do is buy the boards and make them themselves and i bet they buy them from some Asian manufactorer, there are very very very few factories in the US for this kind of gear and it costs a lot to manaufacture there. The standalone that I sell is MPEG-2 and is not Linuix based and yes it has two seprate composite outputs, one with a GUI and one that is either multiplexed or switching and it also has a VGA output and does 100FPS, It is not a sfully featured as the Kalatel, not even close but it is about half the price I think, I will wait to see.

Did you format the video drive and run the repair database tool... if you did a quick format it will still be there, the corruption.. you MUST format it.. it MUST be on a seperate partition and you must tick Recycle in the mapped HDD area -
Tried a few, they are ok, was good till we found Ganz

Switcher Problem
cctv_down_under replied to cctv_down_under's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
manually switching still causes probles, you see to switch the signal need s to stop and refresh and each time this happens the LCD scans to see if a VGA or Composite signal can be found because it can not detect a signal. Does anyone know of any flatscreen compostie monitors other than plasma! -
There are several ways, however the interception would not happen on the isolated line, more where the recieveing unit was connected to the internet.. the thing is .... if you conenct two points with one line like a VPN it is secure but then if one end can go to the net as well and is on the same network then you arre no longer secure. Look at it this way imagine a pipe and a tennis ball. if your mate at one end throws the ball down your pipe then it will reach you without intervention, but if more than one person can gain acces to your end of the pipe then anyone can get the ball, and to stop your end of the pipe being accessed by anyone then you need to make sure the pipe stops at you.. so a VPN without any networked internet accessable computers should secure you.. I know you meant can it be encrypted, yes it can but the band width is affected.
