There is a scheduler for email, also a time setting for how long before it emails you again, if motion persists. Also it cans end emails depending on level of sensitivity and time frame, in other words .5 of a second of motion, 1 second of motion or 1.5 seconds of motion, with thsi it means it can tell teh difference between a fast moving car and someone walking by and with the ability of motion sensitivity and masks it works quite well, you do not get too many false alarms, however the safest way is to wire hardware sensors and have it email by hardware detection and length of connection. Its also easier to use the control room, that way it sends all motion events to you or when ever or whatever area you want, you dont have to record them and then no repetitive emails. As for direct contact to Manufactorer, I have suggested a lot of the features that came out in version 6, I send them a wish list every 3 months which can be painfull with the language barrier (contains a lot of diagrams), however I am not vain enough to think that my influence has made these changes, I think everybody wants the same features, I had already suggested time lines and the other features you recommended the FPS adjustment is harder because Geo only uses one card. I have told them to change it and make it more modern butthey claim that "This is our identity in the market" "Everyone knows Geo's GUI" I hope this helped,

Watchdog Question
cctv_down_under replied to qman's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Ther are several meanings, A hardware watchdog is a cable running to the reset switch of the computer if the card overheats or locks up. A software watch dog makes sure that the software process is still running and that windows has not crashed and if it has it TRY's to reboot the system. I used to use my own process monitor software watchdog called "fire daemon" but that was back with Windows 98, nowadyas things are pretty stable and I have no need to run it with XP. Once again though more proof that if you know how to set a PC system you can avoid the downtime, most people dont think of these things. -
Source for this DVR
cctv_down_under replied to AVCONSULTING's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I havent loked at the link yet, howver the Magic Radar card comes froma company called Chance-I in Korea, the card is awesome and even has a backplane and 485 converter from memory, it does the frames it states and I think the more advanced version had a overlay built in from memory, I have about four samples in my wharehouse, I can let you have them at below what we paid for them to get rid of them. Overall it wasnt bad but the software is very under developed and not a s good as most, however the card seems pretty impressive. I hope this helps, -
MPEG4 only records the moving bits in a movie stream, for example if a man walks by a house it might take 20 Frames to view it however the background will still be the same (if the camera is fixed) therefore there is no need to record the same background (the house) therefore you are only recording the man and he is overlayed onto the house picture background which is used 20 times as the same frame. Its not exactly like that but thats the gist of it, Basically it is a smaller file size and this technology allows for faster web demos as the frames that are transmitted arent as large in file size. I hope this helped,

It worked fine for me, Usually though ??????'s mean that it can not recognise the language or a symbol that you may have used, I would check to see that you havent installed Geo in another language and I would download latest character support from Microsoft (internet explorer). I would also check that Active X controls and Java are enabled in the internet explorer options and would make sure to be using Internet Explorer Version #5. The other thing is your link is one section too far in, you should allow for choosing the connection mechanism as this will cache the files needed for connection, the first time you connect if you empty your cache you need to install a small file, maybe this has something to do with it as you are one screen too far in. Lastly, if you are using a router let us know because it may be a port issue. I know when connecting to Geo's demo's that I sometimes get ?????'s but I assumed that was alanguage issue and am pretty sure of that, if your computer cannot display chinese it will do that. Lastly, version 6 is loaded over the top of the other versions, if you downloaded from Geo this it could be the Webcam section of the upgrade was chinese, that could have been you downloading the wrong one or Geo having the wrong one there. I think you can check that from the geomulti.ini file. I would ask for a CD of Version 6 adn re install after removing all .INI files with teh word Geo as a prefix. I hope this helped,

That CCTV labs site is from the best known CCTV expert in Australia, his book is outstanding and I thoroughly recommend it. There is also a good point of call http://www.globalsources.com This site links all major manufactorers and distributors in Asia. It has a fairly strong search capability. I hope this helps,

This is the new releases from Geovision in Version 6. ( I have had most of these features for 3 months). PTZ. A PTZ camera can now move to preset positions upon closure of the circuit EG: If a door opens and has a relay on it , Geovision can automatically make a PTZ swing and zoom to that position. Screen Pop Up If a camera detects motion, it can be set to pop up on the screen (full screen), This means that your security guard can see which camera has motion as it happens. 16 Channel Audio You can listen in and communicate through 16 Audio inputs, this means you can not only talk to the site but you can listen to it as well. Object Counting You now can log how many times an object moves, this means you can count traffic going from one place to another, or how many times a person goes into or out of an office door or perhaps how often a movie is rented off a shelf etc. Scheduling. You can now change the schedules for recording so that you can change recording settings on a more frequent basis. Previously you had to set multiple schedules, now that has changed. New History (log) Program Many features have been changed here, recorded audio, Thumbnail View (this allows a motion event to display all captured frames at once for example a 3 second segment may have many frames (pictures in it) and the screen will display all of them at once so that you can choose the exact still picture that you want.). Zone Search allows for searching for missing items in a single area of the picture for eg; a handbag that has gone missing from a table. You would draw a box around it and only search events that happened pertaining to that handbag. Indexed search allows you to search for events pertaining to an input for eg: A register transaction of a certain amount will have a video file attached, or an I/O event or alarm activation, you may have a list of alarm events and click on them to get the video linked to that time. System Log This logs a database of data for maintenence and other purposes For example the system can log in text all motion events, General system events like unuathorised access attempts or exits of the software, back up logs etc etc, this allows the seller to check to see what has been happening and who has been logging in and changing things. Dymanic DNS Support. This links an IP address to a domain name, for example you may not wish to pay for bighooters.com so you can link your dynamic I.P to this name even though you haven't paid for the domain. In other words I could type http://cctvforum.com and this could link to the I.P of my DVR or router, it saves having to remember the I.P. Address Remote Logs You have always been able to remotely view the events but now you can remotely view the system logs and see what the DVR has been doing and with the remote configuration utility it means that you can fix most problems and settings through DSL. PTZ Supported Protocols More common brands of PTZ can now be controlled by Geo without the need of Joystick or Keyboard Active X Webcam. This is truley amazing, many servers at one time, audio, zoom I/O control, history and moving of cameras all controlled through the web browser, the system downloads a small active x package the first time you connect to the machine and stores it in windows temp files, this means it looks and feels like a software application rather than a web interface but requires no software to be loaded. Geovision Codec Geovisions codec is smaller in file size than MPEG4 and Wavelet or applied JPEG. POS With the use of the POS Box to interface with a Register's protocol, you can search through keywords in transaction databases as well as search amounts and superimpose transaction data onto the video file. This is already available and Geovision will be buying a better box in FEB which is why they are not selling the latest one, they may make it a PCI card (this is a guess) it is hardly expensive? New Control Centre This allows for Many after hours video events (or continues) to be sent to another PC (control room) fro storage and verification, Up to 320 Video streams can be sent to a single PC Control Center and if more than that are needed it will buffer the event and send it to the next control Centre There is a lot more but I ma tired of typing.. oh yeh and how much did it cost 0$. I hope this helps,[/u]

Dedicated Micros are one of the better standalone products. The reason your AMD wont work is because it probably uses a VIA or NFORCE chipset and they will not work with those cards. I hope this helped,

I had a look at the camera you were talking about .....you had me worried for a moment when you said dip switches, I thought it may have been a ptz camera with camera address switches for a second. This is a nice camera and the dips you are talking about are standard camera settings and depend on what application and light conditions the camera wil be in. The easiest way (because all are different) is to post the abbreviations and we will explain what each position will do, failing that, here is a good glossary on camera terms. http://www.altechvision.com.au/pages/glossary_new.asp Keep in mind that the letters you see near the dips are abbreviated, however the description may not be, for example AGC is Automatic Gain Control. I hope this helped,

CCTV Cameras with Audio Input?
cctv_down_under replied to DavidR's topic in General Digital Discussion
I sell a Pin Hole camera with audio, however you will find that mounting a camera high will result in poor audio. Also I would be carefull that your system allows microphones without a Pre Amp built in, most will require Pre Amplification amps, and they are usually only accepted as 8 bit mono which means you cant have a standard stereo mike. I hope this helped, -
What was the link for the product Sue?

Yes but imagine the size of the HDDs needed, I think the day of HDD's is running out and we will soon see storage on non volitile ram.

I have never tried it, however Rory raves about them.

I would like to take a holiday to the US to see my sister in California, I was thinking of making it a working holiday (not too long though) anyone have a CCTV business near there?

I am very sorry I had no idea! I apoligise it was a very sad day for humanity

One thing to look for chuck? Did you adjust the back focus ring at any time? It appears from those images that you have two problems and the main one is that the back focus is severely out of whack? Also I would be very curious to find out what housing you have been using outdoors because it would seem that the glass is making another lens, try to see if the picture looks good without the housing on. You are using a f1.4 lens but Tamron is a pretty good lens, so it should not be a problem, there is a lot of reflected light in those images and this is exactly why I hate the superhad or ex view chip, because they really can wash out very badly. Getting your level right for the Auto Iris is very important. Remember to open up when doing your back focus. Alan posted this site before it has great info on setting a back focus (well from memory it did). http://www.supercircuits.com/store/home.asp I think that you might have been better off with a day/night camera so that you can get good images at day or night. As for Avers cards, check that you have told the card it is a B/W camera (if it has that option) and also check that the levels in the software arent out, they would be set with high saturation for colour cameras by default. Also have you mixed B/W and Colour cameras, as this can affect the image on DVR cards? DVR cards never look as good as anlogue does on a montior unless you purchase an overlay board for the DVR, because the picture is digitized on your monitor it is not as sharp, however the recorded frame rates would be faster and adjustments with compression can make a massive difference. Try these things out before you buy the IR illuminators.
-
I would not buy any of that.. IR sucks and I am betting the cams come from China or Taiwan?
-
Actually Hardware compatability is a big issue and most think they can put a card into anything. I like both ideas Standalone or PC Card but they both have major Pro's and Cons.
-
For day/night viewing it can often be difficult, the reason is that you have two or more light conditions, the best bet is to avoid IR Illumination and go for a day/night camera that will switch from colour at high light conditions and to BW for low light at night. Here is a link to a Day Night Camera: http://www.altechvision.com.au/products/pdf/103.pdf The next step after that is to go to a Wide Dynamic Camera but that is big bucks. If you want a PC based card then go with Geovision http://www.geovision.com.tw There will be plenty of Re-Sellers in your area and they have the best software. Ask some more questions and we should all be able to help you. Regards,

I hope you have found what you were looking for Sue, In all honesty a lot of products are junk, especially from Taiwan and China, so try to ask the person you are buying from where their stuff is made!
-
Rory that looks like an awesome book, can you forward me a link so I know where to buy it. The one I have is too in depth and I fall asleep everytime I read it.

Has anyone ever seen a book that exists like this, I think it would be very handy to have a leaflet that could be handed to customers to help the customer make an informed decision
