The reason they are 420 lines is becasue they are a sharp chip and yes they arent bad value for money, howver there are several grades of sharp chip and I have found that the low light ones show too much light in the day time.

I will try again when I get a chance, I have port forwarded already. I think you might need the Ligos Indio codec to view it. This seems to be what it uses. Microsoft in its infinite wisdom decided this codec was no longer free in XP (only really recent versions) and my XP is fairly new, I will install that and have a go.

Worse than that is that some state Fields instead of Frames and there are 2 Fields to every Frame, therefore a 100Frames Per Second Global Card would be 200 Fields Per Second Card, however they both abbreviate the same (FPS). You really do need to be carefull, also the rates that they boast are calculated at 320x240 resolution when there is an option for 640x480, but if that is used you will not see the promised frame rate. The easy way to check is to count the number of chips on the card (each one is worth 25fps).

I think Geovision used to actually purchase the Cards from Avermedia some time ago, however I can not confirm that. I know that they now use an onboard dongle so to avoid this issue. I do not think it has helped them all the same, because they are offering a reward on their website of 10,000 US dollars for anyone providing information about offenders using other cards with their software. It is my Belief that Avermedia are behind a lot of the developing cards at present. In regards to the searching feature,the Version 6 sofware comes complete with thumnail indexed searching and object tracking, and yes I agree this was an area that Geo was indeed lacking in. I looked up the manufactorers that you recommended and I thank you very much for the information as I think I will try to order samples from two of those companies, however they are not all that much more advanced than Geo is right now. I would love to find another product better as I do not like the way Geovision does business, we have tried many samples of other gear, however they never seem to be a finished product or they seem to be lacking in something.

If set up correctly a PC based system is about 88% as stable as a standalone.

I would be very surprised at that price, if you can email me a pic of the card I can tell you just by looking at it. That is pretty cool if they have their own chips, but I think you will find they are just branded. I mean the Geo card has Geovision all over it but I know they do not manufacture them. The easiest way to tell without viewing the card is by the specs that are required to run the card, if it reecommends high end CPU for faster frame rates then the board does not have hardware compression (In most cases)

Getting loan samples from manufactorers for evaluation is hard to achieve, God knows I have a wharehouse full of cards I did not like, however I have found that most distributors will loan you goods, they can test them when they come back and if fualty charge them for the goods. I use it all the time!

I have looked at the DM stuff a fair bit, the strong points are that they look awesome, are very reliable and most of the extra components like, PTZ joysticks etc are plug and play. The only down sides that exist with DM is that it does not have good backup options and the image is cropped, they also arent the best on the market for value or the latest features. They give good support, not that you need it with the sprite anyway (it is very easy to use), best of all they are well known and give the BEST brochures I have seen.

I agree with David, I try not to have my systems slower than 12 fps per camera where possible, however price can dictate the speed.

Here is a good hint: If the company you are interested in is big enough to support you then they will always have large stock, this is a good sign of a successful company, therefore they should be prepared to loan you some demo stock for testing, they can invoice you for it but if you return it you should be able to get a full refund. This way you will only be buying from someone who has complete faith in their products.

Some companies employ a bad marketing strategy and this strongly affects people that have dealt with them before.

I believ the Dallmier does it, I am not sure, I cant imagine the size of the drives that you would need for it!

I just got this from the Alnet site There are no hardware JPEG compression chips on that board that I can see, so I assume the compression is within the software. I hope this helped,

I would be very surprised if ALNET have their own capture chip, please send me the site again and I will have another look, even if it was proprietry chip it should only do 30FPS per chip. I am not talking of built in software compression, there is a new range of DVR boards coming out with hardware on chip compresion that compresses the video stream before sending it down the PCI bus and then it uncompresses it again, these are rara and are a lotr more expensive than standard cards and certainly are not at the prices you were showing in this post. I could be wrong but I have seen no different chips yet but like I said post the link again and I will have another look for you.

I totally agree about the marketing issue with Geovision, that is the ONLY thing I do not like about them, please tell me why these other options are better, what are the features they have that Geo does not? I am not trying to prove you wrong, If I can find a better product I will switch but I am yet to see one. I had the older Intotech software, we bought the S series or Smart DVR as it was known then, we actually bought it from Sunkwang but they bought it from Intotech. Either way neither of the versions look like the one I saw on DVR Systems site and I had seen that same screen shot with Tai Labs somewhere before, I am sure of it.

Very strange with the email thing, however I did finally recieve it (obviously), I tried the Kalatel software but it crashed my system and wrapped itself around my Sys32 files. It did not install properly in the first place, kept saying cant read certain files I skipped them, so I assume that is why. Your probably right about the router, can you tell me which ports it uses and I will open mine up to it. It could be a version issue, some DVRS have this issue when connecting with a different version because they may have made adjustments to the codec. If you email it to me again I will give it another go, this is why I love XP, no risk and you can always roll back! Do they not have a web based version that does not require software? As far as your camera choices go, the ex view is a great option for low light, however they are not always the best day picture, the problem is that in reality a camera needs to be for one purpose, low light and great at night or high qulaity picture by day. To get around this I would look into a DAY/NIGHT colour camera that will swtch to low lux BW at low light conditions. Be carefull to purchase a lens that has a low F Stop as well or you are wasting your time. The IR Illuminated bullets are garbage and I dont care what anyone says they really are rubbish unless you are buying something from extreme CCTV and paying mega bucks. (Cheaper to put in ambient lighting). The problem you will have with a Day Night camera is that they are not small, I would suggest that you look to mount this type of camera with half or more of it recessed into the ceiling cavity, you can buy a lot of recessed mounting options that will make the camera more aesthetically pleasing and you will only see a very small amount of the camera. Be very carefull if you are to mount an x view camera that you do not let the sun shine directly into it as they are very sensitive to light and even with filters and Auto Iris the camera can wash out very badly. I had a look at that website, we tried them ages ago, their software has changed a lot..however, that is not the same softwrae as the H series card that I saw on http://www.dvrsystems.net If you go to the screen shot on Intotechs page you will see that the two are different, there must be a few H series cards out there. http://www.intotech.co.kr/english/index.html You state that Geo is low end.. I thought it was fairly good, if you know of better I would be very interested to hear it!
