    NVR-3208P bricked?

Google: solar winds tftp server It is free and it is good. I have no idea what "NOCM" is.
  2. I would imagine it will work with the Blue Iris "HIKVision RTSP" or the Generic RTSP H.264 option. I run Blue Iris and I'll let you know.
  3. Solar Winds free ftp server.
  4. I've been thinking about putting a camera in my car for a while now. But tell me why you are going with a poe cctv survelance camera and not one of the many task specific car-cams on the market?
  5. It is inadvisable to update firmware unless you are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that you have the correct firmware for your device. If you don't you may ruin your device.

Why is CCTV interesting to you?

If it runs over twisted-pair, I've always tended to be interested in it. I bought a Vivotek camera off NewEgg 1 month ago for where I work. It was $100.00 off. Then I bought another (mistake). Then I bought a 7200 RPM USB3 4TB external drive and a USB3 card. Then I bought Blue Iris. Then I bought a 4-port 1GB POE switch (mistake, should have bought 1GB 8-port POE). Then I bought a Dahua IPC-HDB3200C. Then I bought another HDB3200C (mistake). Then, yesterday, I bought that Costco Swan 2fer deal for $349.00 (not a mistake - can take 'em back if they suQ). So I got it bad. Real bad. The only upside is that the machine I'm using as my dedicated Blue Iris server is a dual Xeon 3.2ghz (an old Dell Precision 670 workstation) and too many cameras is about to choke the processor. Seeing as I can't afford a new video server, said chokage shall preventeth Q from procuring any more freakin' cameras. And from making anymore rookie mistakes. This will slow me down causing Q to learn before initiating more cash burn. Unless I decide to videoize my home. I got it bad.
  7. A whole lot more information is needed bro. This remote location would need power and some kind of Internet connection.

    DYNDNS account

I'm curious. I have a remote user on Comcast working out of his home, out of state. He's supposed to be on Comcast DHCP, but his IP address has not changed in a year and 4 months. I have another remote user (in a different state) on Time Warner DHCP cable I think whose IP address didn't change in four freakin' years. These are both "residential" accounts. shockie, does this person need dynamic DNS? Has he checked to see how often his IP address has changed? If it doesn't change I'd surely purchase a cheap domain name at BlueHost or sumptin' and use their host record mechanism to point to this person's IP address. He ma\y not even need a domain name, right? I'm certain you've thought of this bro...jus' thinking out load.
  9. Yes, Buellwinkle is a real (albiet a most proficient) user who probably put an hour (at most) into recording and posting his video, whereas "Use IP Ltd" is a company selling the camera who probably spent 2 days testing light levels to obtain the most optimum video possible. Buell wants truth. "Use IP Ltd" wants silver.
  10. This is good stuff! Ta-nekdo, Solar Winds distributes a very good and simple to use Free TFTP Server. However, the entire process is going to take you some time if you've never done it before.
  11. I wonder if the night shots would be a lot better is you install two (2) motion activated floodlights to the side of the camera and pointing at the shed.
  12. Try dropping your frame rate down to 5 FPS and also try scaling back your VBR. Don't run unecessary software on your laptop when trying to manage your cameras. Try scaling everything back, and then slowly move up until the CPU starts to bog down. You may also want to invest in a product like Blue Iris.
  13. I pulled the trigger on these cameras. What the heck, it's Costco. I can return them because "I'm not satisfied with...the focal length."
  14. Does anyone have any opinions about the ACTi D52 3MP Indoor Dome? I'm seeing it for $204.00 and I'm jonsin' for it. Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. CCTV company owner Denmark.

    Hello Benjamin. Welcome!
  18. Max, I've been thinking, which is always a dangerous thing. Why not let something like this do the lighting and let the cameras do the camerating? I've been running a couple of these units (2 bulbs each) with two 90-watt equivelent LED bulbs in each unit, and they light up the entire driveway and my large patio and they do it for pennies. They allow you to turn them off automatically at dawn and on at dusk...and they only fire when motion is detected. Then they stay on for a user defined period of time. And the motion detection is very, very, good. I guess the downside is that the bulbs cost $40.00 EACH but they'll probably be $7.50 in a year. What do you think?
  19. RPMage Speed. Never anything less than 7,200 rpm. 15,0000 if I can afford it. Reliability: some kind of RAID solution, if possible.
  20. My limted experience suggests that your looking at a minimum of $200.00 per cheapo 2MP camera + $1,500.00 for a decent i7 PC with decent 7200 rpm drives + maybe $100.00 for server and mobile device software (I'm thinking Blue Iris, although there are free Linux alternatives and some Windows freeware out there), $150.00 for (DIY) Cat5e cabling and perhaps $500.00 for incidentals. My guess is $4,2500 will get you close to where you suggest you want to be. Maybe it's time to start compromising? P.S. I don't think the Homeowners Rule fo Four will apply to the numbers I've suggested.

...maybe I should have added something about "...your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to see..."

What has happened to this forum

As technology evolves and becomes more accessible (ergo, less expensive) it filters down to us ignorant masses huddled in our dilapidated garages tinkering with Qrappy Chinese hardware whilst The Whitecoats curse Moore and wish his infernal law had never seen the light of day. Yea I say...onward! And I say those who are lifting the world upward and onward are those who encourage more than criticize....actually it was Elizabeth Harrison who said that.
  24. If I were you I'd start by going to the Samsung website and download the user guide.
