  1. Sorry STtickman, I'm a tad confused: which video did you inspect that resulted in the reported 1280x960 resolution? Was this video from a Swann SWNHD-820CAM which had been flashed with the Hikvision firmware?
  2. FYI: No, the camera was not moved one millimeter: it is mounted to the wall in a locked closet and it has not been touched. This may have to do with the 4:3 format versus 16:9" Buellwinkle would know.
  3. Thanks for all of this great information. It is appreciated. The original snapshot I took was made with the SWNHD-820CAM's built-in web interface snapshot utility. It was 2048x1536 resolution with a 432kb file size. The snapshot I've posted below was produced by Blue Iris with Camera Properties > Recording > Jpeg Quality set at 100%. This snapshot is 2048x1536 resolution with a 2,000kb file size. I have NO QLUE what this means. I am still learning... 2048x1536 resolution with a 2,000kb (2,047,194 bytes) file size: http://www.zombiesmustdie.com/img/cams/hikflash04.jpg Now here is the same Blue Iris Snapshot but this time the camera is set at "1920x1080P" resolution and with a resultant filesize of 1,398kb... 1920x1080 resolution with a 1,398b (1,398,368 bytes) file size: http://www.zombiesmustdie.com/img/cams/hikflash05.jpg From these images, my uninformed and ignorant Qonclusion is that the flashed SWNHD-820CAM is producing more pixels at the 2048x1536 resolution then it is at the 2048x1536 resolution. Please tell me why this deduction is incorrect. I want to learn.
  4. Yes, I understand this very clearly. Thank you John. I guess my question is how do we prove that "up-scaling" is what's occurring with the flashed SWNHD-820CAMs? The snapshot image I previously posted was not presented as "evidence" of 3MP functionality. Rather, it is simply the resultant file produced by the SWNHD-820CAM's "snapshot" function. I previously stated that I am ignorant, but I want to learn, and one of the things I'd like to learn is how to prove how many megapixels this flashed SWNHD-820CAM is producing at it's ("new") 2048x1536 resolution setting. The statement "...point being what company in there right mind is going to sell a 3mp camera down graded to a 2mp at 2mp price...." is not evidence; I respectfully suggest that this is conjecture, not evidence (albeit quite possibly true conjecture). What I'd like to learn is how does one measure the output of the camera? How does one know the truth?
  5. I'm sorry, I don't understand what you have written here.
  6. I'm more than a little ignorant about these matters, but I'd like to better understand your contention. If the resolution is 2048 x 1536 then isn't the image's pixel count 3,145,728? Please educate me on what your suggesting. I'd like to understand it better. Thank you.
  7. I'm gonna keep my mouth shut lest I generate anymore animosity with my sad jokes, lame excuses, dull points and bad photoshopping.
  8. It's just a pointed joke. That's all.
  9. Yes, before I read your last post, I figured you were bluffing and I couldn't stand it any more. So I flashed one of my SWANHD-820CAMs with the Hikvision firmware. It appears that I have been successful. It appears that I now have a 2048 x 1536 resolution available in Configuration > Video/Audio (as shown below). I have this camera temporarily hanging is the server closet so I have no super-terrific video to share with you. Indeed, the only change in the cameras web interface is that I have now have a 2048 x 1536 resolution available and the screens all say "HIKVISION" in the upper left corner. In addition, Blue Iris appears to be receiving 2048 x 1536 video goodness. [iThink]Success![/iThink]. One more thing: a WaRnInG! Flash at your own risk and, if you do, you WILL void your warranty and/or you may brick your camera thus rendering it useless and non-returnable. You have been warned.
  10. #$%%!$ the budget! More cameras! More servers! More! More! More!
  11. Got 2 more...thanks for the head's up bro. " title="Applause" />
  12. Thanks. Does anyone know what this changes from the Costco QSee firmware? Software Version 2.100.QS00.8.R, build : 2012-07-19 WEB Version 3.0.0.0 Are you seriously considering installing firmware which was posted by a person who has been a member for one single month and has contributed only seven posts? This sounds like flash 'n to me bro...and not very wise.
  13. I don't think 'ol Zikronix really flashed that baby fellas.

    Hidding the DVR

Although this might look out of place in the living room...
  15. Hey recordit...if you want to sell those Swanns, let me know bro.
  16. How about hooking a recording of this to the motion detection or the camera's DIO...seriously...This would scare the bejesus out of me if I was in a strange place where I didn't belong.
  17. This is why I suggested using the Heath Zenith 200 watt motion sensing floodlight (in lieu of IR). For $75.00 you can blind the SOB and get good video of him squinting in the sun. So to speak. You know Kawboy, I ain't got a Qlue really: but it seems that everyone and his brother wants to spend "under $200" and I just don't think your going to get "ID quality" video with an under $200.00 IR camera. My suggestion is to use conventional motion dection flood lighting ($75.00?) and then get a Dahua IPC-HDB3200C which, in my ignorant foolish newbified opinion, streams pretty darn good video...when the lights are on. Total cost? $250. Video quality: pretty darn good imo.
  18. I run two (2) of the Dahua IPC-HDB3200C 2.0 Megapixel (1080P) cameras in my warehouse where there is decent lighting. This camera is $170.00 (max) on Amazon. I think the video it puts out is teriffic. Instead of futzing around with IR, which IMHO generally suQs, why not mount of these units in your garage. The light this unit puts out will give you very good video I think.
  19. What is the lighting situation?
  20. Oh no. I did the hard work...talking you into it!
  21. You drive a Fiat Charger bro. And here's next years model...
  22. Im not going to go thorugh all that...but there you guys go!.. Nice work bro. Nice friggin' work. " title="Applause" />
