Anybody on here have experience as a DMP dealer? We have been talking with a DMP representative about becoming a dealer but I would like opinions from others about the panels. I like the features they have and I really like their wireless but I don't want to commit the money to start an inventory of the panels until I have heard from some others on their experience with the products/tech support/quality of the products.

If you were going to quote a 20 camera system, would you go with a 32 channel DVR or two DVRs (16 ch. and 4 ch.)? If you use two, can they be "cascaded" to watch all of the cameras from one console or would you have to use a KVM switch?

Has anybody ran CCTV wires outside through the air? I have application where the client is wanting to put a camera on a light pole in the parking lot. Running some type of exterior cable from the building to pole would be much easier than cutting up and trenching through the asphalt parking lot. The buidling is about 20 feet high and the pole is probably 30 feet. The pole is about 75 feet from the building. I am worried about the weather affecting the signal with exposed cable hanging in the wind. Anybody have experience (good or bad) with this type of install?

Aerial Cables
hometownsecurity replied to hometownsecurity's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I will have to call my distributors in the morning to see if they carry this type of coax. I really don't want to install the cameras this way. I am still trying to convince the client to keep the cameras on the building where they are safer and easier to maintain. Thanks for the input. -
They are a digital camera in an ruggedized housing. Most come with a cable to lock it to the tree. They work really well for patterning deer, but I wouldn't use them in replace of a CCTV setup. You are only going to get snapshots of whatever walks in front of the camera and once the media gets filled up, you start over-writing your pictures. Also, once somebody has seen the flash, they know what it is.

New to video and I am trying to quote a system for a potential customer. The customer has asked for a scanner but my distributors have said that for the price difference I would be better to quote PTZ. I have two basic questions: 1. The distributors have quoted systems with outdoor PTZ cameras connected to a DVR but they haven't included anthing to control the PTZ with. They have said all I need is the coax. Seems to me that to control the PTZ via coax, I would need some type of control box or matrix. If I was going to use 485 from the DVR, I would need a 232 to 485 converter and an extra set of control wires going to the PTZ. The DvRs have been Toshiba, Digimerge and Arm Electronics. PTZ has been Arm, Pelco and Sanyo. 2. With a true scanner, is there no remote control for it? do you set the speed and scanning area when installing? The customer is trying to watch a parking lot, so I am trying to convince him to just use fixed cameras with wide angle lenses so that he gets the area covered at all times. What do you folks think?

Do you have any copies of the maint. agreements you use that you could PM with? I am new to the business and am trying to see what has worked for other people. I am also trying to develop this for the burglar alarm side of my business also, but it is mostly residential now so I am not sure if it will be as successful as a maint. agreement for commercial accounts.

I think this should be in the dealers section but I don't have access to that part of the forum (yet!!). I am wondering what type of plans you offer to you customers and about what you are charging them to generate recurring revenue for your companies. What services are the most profitable and requested? Thanks for all your help.

About what percentage do you usually base it on? I don't want to overcharge, but I want it to be worthwhile also. Does your fee cover so many hours or service calls?

Anybody have any input on these two or other similar. I am just trying to get into CCTV and have a chance to bid a 16 camera job. 10 of these will be interior cameras. One distributor quoted all Arm Electronics, another quoted Honeywell and Pelco. I believe from previous posts that Rory likes Sanyo. I am looking at the Arm 24550L vs. the Sanyo VCC-6584. The specs are similar from what i can tell. The Sanyo spec sheets are much more informative. How would rank these two (sanyo vs. arm)? The price is within $10 each. i want good cameras that will not cause me much trouble. Most of them will be used to watch entrances to the retail area. Thanks!

Anybody here had any experiences (good or bad) with NetMedia Modulators or Camodulators (cameras with modulators built in). I have a residential application for an outdoor camera that will be used to keep an eye on a driveway. These would be perfect, cost wise. I am just not sure about combining both devices in one. Any thoughts about this or ideas on decent, budget priced day/night outdoor cameras?

Netmedia Modulators and Camodulators
hometownsecurity replied to hometownsecurity's topic in System Design
What is a scart socket? I was wondering if it is possible to use a BNC to RCA adaptor and run that straight in a TV. This would work for a single TV house, but most houses nowadays have several TVs and that makes a modulator more appealing. -

Truss Like Ceiling
hometownsecurity replied to securitymonster's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Do you have any suggestions for mounting to metal truss ceiling? I would like to find some type of clamp to avoid driling the beams. I was looking at a Honeywell dome that attaches to a 3/4 conduit, but I still have to find a way to attach the conduit to the trusses. -

Hello to everybody from the beautiful mountains of Virginia. I have been in the security industry as technical support for access control and security systems for many years and I am starting my own business and want to start learning more about CCTV so that I can start bidding on some small CCTV jobs. I appreciate having a forum like this where I can ask my peers questions. Keep up the good work!
