Hik/Swann WDR shots
zikronix replied to MaxIcon's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Ive set up a many LPR reader on our police cars here in Arizona. They constantly BLOW MY MIND, not only in the quality, but how fast it deciphers the plate and processes it for a hit! -
New system advice please.

Those acti cameras look pretty cool. The b4x series is what I'm interested in and they aren't out yet. Lame. I want an outdoor bullet with protected cables -
NVR vs a PC running Win 7 with Blue Iris
zikronix replied to captainpsp's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
you would think that but im finding out that bi seems to take alot more procession power than I think it did. Im new to thi, you might want to check out the cam it forums. I aloso asked the same quesiton here at the bottom of this page viewtopic.php?f=19&t=35206&start=405 Where are you getting this information from? Go to the blue iris forum, cam-it.org and read the posts. Yes you will not be able to run 8 2mp at 20fps cameras on an old first gen i3... you dont want to be using those power hogs anyways. An i5 sandy/ivy processor will be able to handle your load with room to spare. There is also a direct to disk option which will lower cpu utilization. In the past I have run 4 1.3 mp cameras at 15fps on an i3 sandy bridge laptop. Keep in mind that many NVR's have a max fps that is split over all the cameras so you may not be able to get 20fps over 8 cams on an NVR. With intel haswell coming out next month the performance will increase and power consumption will decrease. From the cam-it forums is where ive been getting this info. I was looking at putting an ivy bridge xeon 1240 in a barebones 1U chassis. Then I was reading that the chances of running 8 cams and recording on motion @ 1080P at a mininium of 20 FPS per cam. That I would be pushing it. -

zikronix replied to buellwinkle's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I wanted to maybe try BI. but the problem is I have 8 cameras and i want more. I would like to think that a single xeon ivy bridge processor would cut it. but the more I look at it that doesnt seem to be the case. I build and spec servers all the time...and it just seems kinda silly that I would need a dual or quad proc box to allow this product to be able to, record 8+ 2mp cameras @1080P min 20fps What makes Bi so inefficient compared to other pc baced NVR. Im not bashing the product. I just trying to understand. -

zikronix replied to zikronix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Remember the cooling on the lorex is passive. There are no holes like there is on the swann to mount an active cooling solution. You might be able to fit a 50mm in side the case with some slight mods, which would also increase CFM at lower speeds, thus less noise -

I didnt go into full detail here are some pics of the internals. Also the lorex is not as loud as the as the swann, the lorex appears that it also appears it has less memory. I may take some more detailed images of the lorex later since we have detailed pictures of the swann. SWANN: RAM: 8GB DDR3 PROCESSOR: TI TMS320 DM8165BCYG http://www.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/tms320dm8165.html LOREX: RAM: 4GB DDR3 PROCESSOR: TI XDM8107AA R21 2BZCN89 G1 844 AAR -

I just took the lorex back! im guesisng its a 40mm May I ask why? If your asking why I took the lorex back. I already had the swann. After the swann support, and opening up the two...I will keep the swann. Better processor, more ram, better support, 3 year warranty through swann + concierge service. Alarm inputs/outputs, serial port, rs435, plans for a PTZ. The lorex doesnt give you that. If your talking about the fan: 25+ years in the computing field....it looks like a 40mm its too small to be a 50mm -

Im going to take measurements of that cpu fan in the swann, that is the source of the noise for the most part. The fan appears to run at different RPM, allthough im not sure how they are doing that because the fan doesnt have the sensor cable. So it could just be if tempature = x, increase voltage to fan. Im going to look at replacing it with a copper sink using artic silver. The holes show a standard chipset fan should fit, but I want a processor class product. Ill let you know what i find. -

Its costco you could return the camera missing half of it and they would take it back. Missing cables are not an issue.Costcos Camera return policy does not apply to these. Shorter cable....I wouldnt do it. If you eaver decide to move the camera you might want that extra length. When cabling network you always leave a service loop....ALWAYS! You can runn your own cables. Standard UTP (what they supply) is fine. Im in arizona, houses here are cabled with UTP. Sure they could have used, Plenium, or Plenium STP or even outdoor rated cable. If you want to go down that road the cheapest place to get half decent quality cable is monoprice. And if your thinking of Cat 6...not neded dont waste your money. Standard Solid UTP http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10233#1023303 Standard Solid STP (Shielded) (Note: Requires Special RJ45 Connectors) http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10233#1023302 Outdoor rated UTP (UV Resitant jacket and ground) (Note: Required a ground lug and usually a special RJ45) http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10233#1023305 Plenium rated (Melt/Fire resistant jacket) http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10233#1023301 This doesnt even begin to touch on dieletric insulated direct burial or overhead cable. Which is totally awesome...and totally over kill and totally over priced! -

Ethernet over coax Dahua
zikronix replied to vector18's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Im confused by this post. Your title says Ethernet over coax, but then your post says analog over coax to an nvr. So Ill reply the answer I think you're lookiing for. If your talking about connecting an ehternet POE type camera to a piece of coax. You cannot just run ethernet over coax with some dongles. It requires powered hardware to convert the ethernet frames to coax and back when it reaches its destination. Distance is limited. Gefen makes products that will do just that. They are not cheap. If your talking connecting a full analog coax camera to an NVR which typlically doesnt have any analog inputs. There are NVR out there that have the abiltiy to do both. Im not sure dahua makes one. You might want to look at their website. -

i like your lockbox, where'd you get it? I also came up with the same idea you did for mounting the camera to the metal coverplate of a weatherproof box, I used a 4"x4" box and cover. Lockbox came form ebay. I painted it white w/flat white spraypaint. I paid 106 for mine. I had to drill different holes for the top cover because other wise i wouldnt be able get it off. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1311.R1.TR2.TRC1&_nkw=dvr+lock+box&_sacat=0&_from=R40 -

i remember seeing some where in the nvr it could be switched to onvif but for some reason i cant find it now I've heard mention of ONVIF support in the NVR but much of the time when ONVIF is mentioned it's not in-camera motion support. Stuff like Blue Iris on a computer connects to ONVIF 2.0 cameras but does the brute force motion detection with the computer's CPU. From what I understand low-end NVRs generally don't have that kind of horsepower to play with so they just record 24/7. That wastes storage space and gives no idea when or even if events happened. Some folks who have gotten off-brand cams connected to NVRs via ONVIF say that everything works fine but admit after being asked that there's no motion detection. No MD = crippled. Well we know the NVR currently supports motion with the "Swann" protocol (what ever the hell that is) So are you saying that blue iris just records 24/7 as well? -

See for me I need 8 cameras anyway... So I'd be sol. Cisco switches are loud I'll give you that. There is the sf200 line which is actually just a glorified linksys. The 14port had 12 poe ports with a power budget of 100W...they are "quieter" As a general rule when you start getting into the 8 port plus poe territory the switches become actively cooled due to the transformers in the switch -

Prepare to spend money lots of it... if you want gigabit poe. The 100 MBit switch should be fine People love the zyxel http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=33-181-163&ParentOnly=1&IsVirtualParent=1 my problem with that is that its only 4 ports that support poe, and its a piece of junk! You can pick up a Cisco 3550 for about 40.00 more, that 24 ports all of them POE and will support no matter what you throw at it and its managed (as long as you know cisco) but it will run perfectly fine in an unmanaged state, caveat... Cisco can be loud Cisco http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0&_nkw=WS-C3550-24PWR-SMI&_sacat=0&_from=R40 Theres also a 16 port crapgear (netgear) that has 8POE ports and its power budget sucks as well. Then theres this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833425027 which will work but reviews are not favorable and the power budget is really low All of these will work...its just a matter how much do you want to spend. The cisco is the best bang for your buck. Buy one from a vendor that gives you a 1 year warranty deal with the noise and your streets ahead of the game!
